Indeed, using the environment is very important. I die almost every time when i try to fight the gankers at open areas. Except when there are some npc's or other enemies on my side. It's easier to avoid getting backstabbed if you have some trees and stuff around you

I have recently come up against combo's that involve a melee person and the other using the moonlight greatsword. I can't tell you how much having the trees in the area have helped me, but I use an ultra greatsword so they also hurt me a bit too.

The jump to the giant cats is still bugging me. I have not been able to do it after that one time. I wonder if there is a way to do it consistently. I'm always looking for new tricks in the forest - practical or not, and that's why i can't get over it.

Tolvo, Amos, Broke, anyone, i'm sure you have more experience in the forest than me. Do you know about this and if there is a way to do it consistently?

I think I know the jump you mean. I have attempted it 4 times/ Each time I bounced off rhe edge and died. I think you can line it up from the rock and plants near it but Im not 100% sure since it hasnt worked for me.

Sounds interesting. What did you have in mind, specifically for the FH?

    @FinPeku

Yes I have done that jump - wall run then jump at angle near corpse with item.

It is 'extremely' difficult to do and I have not been able to do it consistently (1 in 20). However I have come across a FH who has had a bit of success with this. It becomes an impregnable, but static, fortress.

Ok. Yeah, it's very tricky. I have done it once, but never dared to try it during invasion. I'm trying to think of situations where it could be useful. Chameleon + CSS?

    @ FinPeku.........again big grin

You asked if a summoned phantom can lloyd the host. I can confirm this is the case.

Saw the summons was a good friend who always did honourable 1v1's in the forest so went against host with no need to watch my back. He then started to throw lloyd's at the host, most odd, must be a ganker I thought. Well one of his lloyd's connected and the white mist was around the host, so definitively worked.

Later confirmed that this was the summons most hated ganker.

Someone said you would have to land it on the hosts feet or else it wouldn't work. So not directly hitting the host with it...

Well my forest brethren - just ran into my first dragon glitcher while I was hosting in the forest. I was able to escape the perma-stunlock (never give up when ur caught in it) and I survived the infinite fire-bombs but was killed by WoG :x . It was great learning experience - now I know how to beat both glitch attacks. Oh how I love the forest. The hunter offered to teach it to me but glitching to win is not my style. Luckily I recorded the encounter so I will have to include in my next series of vids I post. What will players of this game think of next.

Guys, is there any reason to stop leveling at a certain point for a FH? I don't want to go to 700, but I'm at 128 now, and I could happily spend some more points, or not. I hesitate, because I worry that leveling too much would cut me off from any other method of multiplayer. Thanks!

@Pennder - if you are going to use your hunter for other PvP type activity you probably don't want to go higher than the SL you are at right now. I recommend you create a toon specifically for hunting (if hunting is your thing which I hope it is) so you don't have to worry about keeping your toon at certain SL - I recommend keep leveling your hunting only toon as much as possible. But also remember your opponents will also be tougher (most of the time) as you attain higher SLs. I have a SL314 hunter and I still get great invasion activity in the forest but elsewhere I probably wouldn't get anything.

    Hope this helps.

I'm at 380 and get constant summons. This is my dedicated FH, with about 120 ganker kills under my belt.

I've been in the forest again today, I had a lot of kills and only two deaths. One due to a bad case of TwoP, CSS, then Backstab. The other due to the fact that I found a good duelist, so I was just outmatched. With my back doing better, the stress of the forest isn't getting to me as badly anymore. I also figured like how I used to, I might as well drop a little tip if anyone didn't know.

Just checking though, is it already common knowledge that you can toggle out of the landing animation from a great fall, and the advantages compared to rolling?

Is it the fact you can backstab the people who follow you? I can't say I know it as common knowledge, but you could enlighten me.

Yes, you can pivot around and backstab someone coming after you. As well if you are medium rolling or fat rolling, it is way faster. Another plus is it costs no stamina, and you can instantly start running when doing it. Meaning if you need to run away after doing it to catch someone or get away from someone, you'll get further faster.

Wait, you can BS someone who is chasing you? Do you have to let them get past you before doing it? (Kinda like a pivot BS)?

Yep, get right behind where they will land and BS them as soon as they land. Just make sure they don't land on you. This is a very weird technique, as even running into a situation to use it in will be rare. But still, in a moment like that it can give an edge that might be needed.

I guess I never actually told you how to do it did I? So far you do need to press dodge, like rolling out. But you press the control pad at the same time, to toggle. It just doesn't do the roll animation, but instead does the weapon toggle leaving you free to move. I'll do some more testing on it with timing, to see if the circle button is truly even required.

I've noticed that twop isn't so common anymore. I see a lot more stone greatsword r2 than twop.

Really? Ive seen a ton of twop recently. In fact Ive seen it so often Ive had to change my playstyle. No longer can I rush in for a quick opening BS, now I have to hang back to see what they do.
Beware the pair who hang out at the entrance steps and cast poison fog. The fat one then casts Twop. He learnt the hard way I dont give a crap about poison though twisted

Well, i guess it varies. I never ever get caught in twop but the stone greatsword r2 gets me sometimes. It usually means death so it's quite depressing.
