It's alright, there wasn't much discussion of the game going on anyway.

Well outside of story sequences the battlefields throughout the game will have "tears" that you can have your partner Elizabeth open. Opening tears can summon things such as cover, or turrets and other mechanical beings to assist you, even weapons. It's balanced with the fact that you can only have one open at a time, so if you're hiding behind cover you spawned via a tear and then try to spawn a turret to help you, the cover will disappear.

How frequent are they? That actually has me a bit interested in the game again.

Early on there aren't many, but as the game gets going most places you have big battles in will have them. They're not really necessary, at least not on normal, but it's a strategic way to take on a fight.

How much does it effect the battlefield? Adapting to a setting or changing the setting before enemies can adapt is a feature I enjoy when done well.

It doesn't change a whole lot, but if you're pinned down and the area allows for it you could open a tear and get an ally to distract enemies from you. I should say that none of this is randomized however, in each area there are only set tear spawn points. They do not change, if you're in an area with no tears you won't be spawning anything.

Aw man. Well, maybe in the future they'll find more to do with that sort of system.

Well, the reason for them being static is a story element. I wouldn't want to spoil it.

Re: Bioshock Infinite
The story reason was probably made to explain limitations to the game.
That's fine, it may not mean I'd really like infinite.
However, if they do a sequel to this one they may be capable of more. In which case, I'll probably buy that one.

I think they said they were done with Bioshock after this game. I would highly suggest picking it up on sale sometime down the line, it is a nice game.
EDIT: Also, it was a pretty MAJOR plot point.

Yeah I just finished it. Not sure what I think. But it was too short.

Re: Bioshock Infinite
ive been playing it recently and the first thing I have to say is play it on hard makes the game alot better forcing you to come up with better strategies and it makes the tears alot more useful. Now for the game I have to say the story is good and gameplay for the most part smooth all I really have to say is that its Bioshcok but without the horror

Have any of you played the 1999 mode yet? My wife just bought the game for me today and I was thinking of going straight to 1999 mode for my first play through. I'd just like to know how it is =) from the description of it, it sounds amazing.

From what I can understand it's just a very hard mode.

From what I was reading it makes you specialize in certain weapons, making your performance with others bad and almost rendering them unuseful. Also, they described it like your choosing a class at the beginning and almost made it sound RPG style with certain decisions making your life harder later on if you choose unwisely. Either way I was wondering if anybody has tried it to see if it was just a bunch of hype because honestly I got really pumped about the game after reading about it lol. Just 4 more hours until I can play =O

Angry Joe has a review up of Bioshock Infinite.
He does have a lot of good things to say about the game, but the overall gameplay so far just looks like I wouldn't enjoy it compared to previous Bioshock games.
Again it looks like a good game with a lot of work put into it, and I'd say it seems to have a very good world. If they come out with a sequel and iron things out I'll probably pick that up.
