Playing against spears.

Ive heard that parrys are easier to get at the hilt of a weapon and i figured this would apply real well with the length of the hilt on a spear. Havent gotten a chance to try it myself but once you get inside their reach you could get them with a parry. Of course theres the timing and all lol

That is indeed how it works, the closer you are to them the easier it is to parry. That's why roll and poke long spear people are really annoying, difficult to parry, difficult to hit, and they'll just poke you to death.

It drains so much more stamina that you think. Look, I can't parry because of the horrible brazilian connection, my main strategy is to two hand a chaos bastard sword for emergency, quicly switch to high poise armor in battle, kick and stunlock.

Mind games. Switch to a spear and a high stability shield and mimic their movements. See who gives up first.

Hah. The outlast method. I might literally mimic their movement next time. Attack when attacked, turtle when turtled. Strafe when strafed. Just to be equally frustrating.

hold the shield and poke with something like a estoc
bait for them to BS you and do the counter BS
or like you said, roll BS

After a lot of fights both against and using the spear, I've decided the most effective counters for me are roll BS+attack on wake up, roll through pokes and GC then roll back out, kicking to break guard then going apeshit with R1, and using shotel for dedicated turtlers. Thanks for all the input, guys. It's helped a lot.

bewary of the rare buffed spear users, they hurt like hell and know their reach. dmb+2handed pike= pain, the few i've seen also use their roll attacks cause of the sweep some of those have.

Actually, it's funny you should mention that. I ran into a guy with this setup. I have 62 poise and the first hit stunlocked me. It was over real quick. Haha

one thing i've noticed is poison arrows. with the straight line attacks of the spear you can get a lot of arrow shots in. or try not locking on but thats not always sound. bow and arrow for me though

I use the knives 'cause the toss is faster, even though the poison build isn't as high. Plus I can keep my main weapon out. That's a solid idea though. Thanks, man. I'll be using that one, too.
