How does Dark Souls haunt your daily life?

Post by skarekrow13 on Mon Mar 05, 2012 10:00 pm

So I've seen a bunch of threads to share stories and thought of yet another. A lot of completely unrelated things in my daily life are now reminding me of Dark Souls.

My daughter was watching Dora about an hour ago and on comes the sticky tape episode. For those of you not familiar with this one, Dora and Boots go around wrapping just about everything they see in bright yellow tape. Naturally I start wondering if that's how the Xanthous King Jeremiah set was made.

    Anyone else have similar hauntings?

i'm already to paranoid for my own good so dark souls hasn't had much of an affect. unless i'm daydreaming, then its all imaginary dks pvp scenarios.

This isn't directly related to dark souls, but dark souls is absolutely the cause. I've been catching myself stopping what I'm doing and glancing up and to the right a lot lately. Which may just sound like something a crazy person does, like a twitch, and I was just disregarding it at first, like when you have a lot on your mind and you walk into a room and forget why, but I realized yesterday while I was walking home what it is. I've been glancing up looking for PSN messages. It's because I've been playing DS in tandem with a friend since Christmas. It's just become a huge part of my daily routine, so much so that I've been doing it away from the tv screen

I was playing Skyrim and found my 2nd Elder dragon (the first f***ed me up).
The only thing I could think of was "I swear to god if I'm invaded, my controller shall feel my wrath!"
I stopped and though for a moment, realizing I wasn't playing DS.
As I looked up that d*** dragon was tossing me around like a rag doll.

I end up using ramdom dark souls references in everyday conversations which noboby else understands but me. I also tend to zone out every so often and when I come back to it I'm comparing weapons stats in my head. This is really bad I think.

I had a sickness induced dream of myself running through a forest being chased by groups of glowing yellow people. Eventually I met another man in the forest and he showed me how to fend for myself, how to trick my enemies, how to lay traps and use the land to my advantage. Eventually we started hunting these monsters in the forest, though in one outting he was killed. I mourned for a moment, then picked up his sword and killed many of them. I went on an utter rampage slaying these glowing beings in any way I can. Then I woke up in a sweat and thought to myself, "Man I really need to play that game less."

Basically I had a dream that was a mix of Forest Hunter PvP and Rambo First Blood I'm pretty sure.

I think I need therapy. Hurrah

Whenever someone reaches out to give me a handshake at work, i have this sudden urge to parry.

And i somewhat half-expect my cat to invite me into a covenant, where i hunt down cat food in exchange for cuddles.

There is a long narrow hallway that is part of one of the exits from my office, and yesterday I got itchy because someone followed me down it and I thought they were going to backstab me. It was weird, to be honest. Probably need to scale back heh

This morning I literally fell down a stair case because in the darkness a shadow suddenly came into view, and I tried to roll forwards to avoid the slime. Soon enough I'm going to start hallucinating Solaire. Prostration

I was wandering along the street in Vancouver a couple of weeks ago and a man in bright red ski gear with a pair of skis held on his sholder was coming back from the local mountains on the opposite side of the road to me. For a millisecond he looked like a red phantom with a BK sword or something and I jumped about 3 feet in the air when I saw him, yelping something unrepeatable. Embarassing? Nah, it's fine when the random, very worried looking attractive Canadian lady next to you asks if you are feeling ok and you turn redder than a marine distress flare.

Zechk, you should have tried to turn that encounter into an interaction with the lady, if you swing that way and aren't taken...Unless she was merely an invader using Chameleon! Does anyone else think we're all nuts and need to put down the collective controllers?

It's funny you should say that, we did end up having a cup of coffee (not a euphemism in this case silly)

I like to think of that as a sucessful parry.

    No riposte eh? silly

Alright more evidence of my descent into madness, using Dark Souls combat mechanics for euphemisms. This game definitely can haunt oneself.

    Sigh...

When you wish for a hammer when you don't have it in your hands.

As well, the ideals of my imaginations was thinking of what it would be to be put into the situation of the chosen undead, going threw a repetition of not being able to stop the chaos, even if they defeat Gwyn and choose a fate, it repeats itself... over, and over.

I love the universe, but I would question whether I would be able to save Lordran and the rest of the world, before repetition turned me hollow. The idea still floats in my head when I think.

I would have turned hollow in that cell, I'm being realistic here, there is no way the real me would ever last in that world for more than five minutes, and that's being generous.

well, think about the soul factor. you can level up your physical self in ways with souls. that does not haunt me in that. death i do not fear, although I do not seek it so quickly. I know that I can escape the Asylum, their are many factors I know that would allow me to.

Souls... hm. Interesting to make dealings with others, As well as the interaction of other players. I might save the people I kill their helmets or such, so when I come back after repetition, I show em it and be able to convince them in ways of solving the situation. would be easier physically, but possibly not possible.

See on the internet I'm a big tuff guy playing against people who probably just got the game last week and have barely experienced PvP, but in that actual world I'd be worse than the crestfallen. I'd just be sitting in firelink, or my own cell crying and talking about how pointless everything is. I don't care if I'm SL 120, I'm not leaving that damn shrine unless Lautrec starts giving me looks, the steal humanity and soul kind of looks. Though I don't think I'll leave just because of a certain serpent.

This morning I heard the word "slab" and immediately forgot where I heard it or in what context it was said after realizing that it wasn't a conversation about weapon upgrades.

Also, last night after thinking that Dora the Explorer was somehow the mastermind behind the Xanthous set, I played Skyrim a bit. I was attacked by a dragon and saw the breath attack hit me. I almost put the controller down thinking that I was dead without the right "plate" ring on then realized I was on top of a mountain and not on a bridge. So I turned around and killed it, thanking god that From didn't make this game too as I'm not sure I could handle a Hellkite battle every couple of hours.
