"New" Techniques, Work Great Against New Players Empty "New" Techniques, Work Great Against New Players

Post by SadPanda Fri Jul 19, 2013 5:41 pm

I've developed a couple "new" techniques.

One of them is essentially a fake bow setup parry into a reverse roll backstab.

Another is for sorcerers. It's basically a cousin to the fire surge lure fireball. Except you use White Dragon Breath. Cast White Dragon Breath at a 45 degree angle to either side you have the pyro glove on. If it's on your right hand, turn 45 degrees left, vice versa for left. Let the fireball go 90 degrees to the opposite direction of the WDB and hope for it to hit.

This one is sort of tricky. Have a shield or a greatshield in your right hand. Spiked shield or Pierce shield work wonders with this. You can use bow/crossbow setups to do a shield R2 that will hit your enemy and block their attack.

Another cool trick with the shield in the right hand is to do a "kick", then immediately shoot your crossbow. If they roll back, you'll hit them during their instability frames.

If you know how to raviolistep, then this will work wonders against roll BSers. If you're using an UGS, lure a roll BS with a swing, raviolistep your back away, and use a WD (backstepping) R1. This can be done with all weapons, but I feel UGS's naturally get roll BS'd.

Just though I'd share some useful moves I like to do happy

Feel free to share your favorite moves.

Start swinging around a Greatsword(Ultra Greatsword) and fight the person for a bit. If you see them starting to learn how to space themselves correctly from it, and are about to walk between your swings for a hit, whip out a longsword and start beating on them. Guaranteed to hit most every time. After seeing you wave around this giant slow sword for the past minute, they won't except a really quick R1 spam of a longsword.

Here's another one. An UGS in the left hand can be followed by a greatsword stunlock. LHR2, RHR1, RHR2 will get them everytime. Unless they toggle escape of course.

"fake bow setup parry into a reverse roll backstab."

Why don't you just riposte them? Also there is no such thing as a LHR2, that's just L2.

No, like faking a bow setup parry, then reverse rolling. Apologies for the RHR2, I hadn't played Dark Souls in a week or so when I made this thread.

Why are you bothering to share techniques to defeat newer players?

"Don't suck" is more than enough to kill newer players, no special technique is necessary. You already have a massive advantage in skill and knowledge, what chance did they ever really stand?

so how bout some ones against good players? any one have any that aren't ridiculously complex exploit dependant bs fishing by another name? (seriously I find this sort of thing annoying, almost every "trick" depends on an exploit like toggle escape or is a glorified version of bs fishing, at least that I've encountered...)

I don't think the title says "Techniques to Kill New Players", it says, "'New' Techniques, Work Great Against New Players". It doesn't necessarily have to be new players.

If your opponent is new, then why do you need all these fancy techniques (especially ones like reverse roll backstabs, they take a while to master). If they're new, they almost certainly won't know how to toggle escape (something that ought to be fixed but knowing From they probably won't), meaning you can just run up to them with a UGS and stunlock them to death. Easy peasy.

I wouldn't consider toggle escaping something that needs to be fixed simply because there are those weapons that literally keep you locked down infinitely. And w/o it would be so much more of a hassle to deal with in the event you did get stunned. If every weapon had a specific combo that was a guaranteed chain on a stun toggling would be a problem. But as it stands it's just an annoying combo breaker to those weapons that pin you down with no chance to roll out at all. Although I do think that some of the "pro strats" like toggle parrying a slow weapon user to make them think they've stunned you is just a little distasteful.

    ^This.

New techniques are better to learn on "new" players or players with lesser skill rather than a skilled player who isn't gonna let you get away with stupid mistakes you're gonna make while learning something you've never tried before.
