Manus Catalyst, Diminishing Returns past 50 strength.

I wanted to test the diminishing returns on the Manus Catalyst, so I've been testing my damage each time I increase my strength for a few days.

The spell used is Dark Orb. I'm testing it on the second tree in Darkroot Garden. with Bellowing Dragon-crest and Dusk Crown Ring equiped.

22 total damage increase over 49 points; the equivalent of 11 magic adjust.

Very nice info. It's strange though, because you were experiencing a larger increase through GMB. Also before 50 Str the increase in damage isn't that great. I found that from 26 Str to 27 Str the increase in Dark Orb damage to a Burg Hollow was a mere 5 damage.

5 per one point, or 1 per 3 points? Diminishing returns set in pretty hard here.

Hi Rynn, i have a question, does this mean that the scaling is decent before and up to 50 (like 40-50)? Just asking since i hear most stats diminish after 40 usually (new to dark souls)

id be interested to see the damage difference through Havels shield / GMB at 50 str and 99 str, even though its only 22 damage, it might make the spell alot more physical,

I suspect that the physical/magic split for abyss magic depends on how much scaling you're getting from int/fai vs. how much scaling you're getting from str/dex.

@Skentuey: Different things hit diminishing returns at different points. Most notably, catalysts' scaling rates vary a lot. For regular weapons, Divine/Occult/Enchanted/Magic hit diminishing returns at 50, while everything else (including unique weapons) hits them at 40. Just check out mugenmonkey and see how much damage/magic adjust things have with various stats, it's the easiest way to check numbers like that out.
