Yes. And it's strange. Why he just helps you with Gwyn? I mean, he should somehow get back from Izalith. And why he don't speak with you right before Gwyn. I think the idea was, that he returns to Firelink Shrine, where you had to show him pendant. After his amnesia goes away he tells you about his father Gwyn and what Solaire wanted to do. Then he helped you and you could choose third ending. But it really looks like they deleted that, 'cause now it looks REALLY scrapped and unclear. Ostrava from DeS had the same story, but at least it had an clear ending. And his ''way to truth'' was much more logical.

Solaire being depressed in the lost iazlith shortcut... when you kill the bed of chaos, he dissappears I believe killing the bed of chaos is what triggers it...

and his summon sign will show up in the kiln..

I am convinced that it is here, at this time in the game progression that he ends up physically behind the sitting forest maiden baby statue in firelink behind frampt..

we just have to figure out how to make that statue move or dissappear...

course it is possible he ran right into the kiln as we all put the boss souls in the lord vessel.. and as soon as the door open.. Solaire ninja'd in.. dropped his summon sign and got out..

he likely ninja'd all the really good loot too..

Just a quick question, Solaire is arguably Gwyn's first right? Is that still in contention or is it concluded that he's the firstborn?

it's assumed Solaire is Gwyn's first born, the god of war.. but there is no ingame information that directly makes this claim..

it's a safe bet that he is.. but nothing 100%..

i doubt Solaire is the son.

Im wondering if anyone has a maxed out Iron Golem Axe and can use it on the Everlasting dragon...

also... has anyone done a run through using the Great Lord GreatSword on every boss.. and having the pendant?

    I cannot yet til i hit NG++

"Greatsword born from the soul of Gwyn, Lord of Cinder. As bearer of the ultimate soul, Gwyn wielded the bolts of the sun, but before linking the fire, divided that power amongst his children, and set off with only this greatsword as his companion."

Not true acid_Rabbitz, Smough is the executioner, hated by the 4 knights of Gwyn, especially Ornstein... for he grinds up the bones in his soup like a cannibal..

The destroyed statue for the warriors of sunlight, which is asumed to be the god of wars statue is weilding what looks like the dragon slayer spear.. in the rubble around the base of the statue..

The crestfallen warrior could be the past god of war and Gwyns son, based on the generic information and no confirmed evidence in the game..

Solaire's armor and weapons do offer some insight into him possibly being the god of war, based on his abilities are all from his own faith and self training..

as it stands, he is in the lead for who could it be.. but as of now and for the last 2 months.. it could be anyone else too..

Just not Smough, please not fat tits..

The even though Smough isnt the same shape and size as his armor lets us believe, he still IS pretty big, and most likely fat. A knight or warrior who is given a unique set of armor to represent them ALWAYS has it displayed in a manner that, well, represents them.

Plus, Smough has to be big (tall) to be able to move his legs and arms in that suit. He's likely a big guy through and through.

Another thing about Solaire is, besides what his armour says, he is the only other known NPC to me that wields Lightning Bolts/Sunlight Spears besides Gwyn. Gwyn doesn't do it in game but the opening proves it. Aw man, Gwyn would be insane to fight if he hurled lightning bolts if you got too much distance between you and him.

When Solaire said he became "Undead" to pursue his "Sun" that triggers the theory that maybe he lost his memory in the process. Just thought I'd add my own thoughts.

That's the thing about Dark Souls. The story is buried in mystery that you can interpret the lore to your liking, another testament to how great the game is.

Solaire is the only viable candidate for Gwyn's first-born at the moment. Sure, we don't know who it is explicitly, but he's the only one who is even implied to be. Based on how Dark Souls tells its story, I believe he is the one.

I wish I checked this thread earlier, though. I've only killed two bosses on NG+6. I could have have done a Great Lord Greatsword run. Dammit.

I'll use it on every boss after this. Taurus Demon and the Gargoyles can't be that important, can they?

Solaire at one point does say he would look in Izalith and The tomb of the Giants (or the catacombs but they go hand in hand...) and yet we don't seem to ever find him in there.

It would be quite funny if he went crazy due to finding a skull lantern.

"Oh my, oh my! I found it! My own sun! My own portable sun! It's in the palm of my hands! Oh joy! How magnificently bright it shines! Oh... oh!"

I kind of agree with grizzly.
The game is VERY incomplete in it's story and quests.
It feels like they just had a bunch of concepts and maps, then put them quickly together, started making a lot of side quests and th- OMG DEADLINE!!!! AND ALL OF THESE QUESTS ARE STILL MESSED UP!!! LET'S JUST CUT THEM OFF.......

"Phew.. we got the game released just in time. Hey miyazaki, what did you say the pendant was for?"

    "erm........I don't... remem- NONONO IT'S A SECRET. TELL EM IT'S A SECRET."

And they're trying to make this up with huge updates and

"You haven't discovered everything yet keep playing x--D"

sigh. A part of me still wants to believe there are huge secrets which are not found yet, but the true side of me KNOWS we've already found everything. The only place in game I think we're not completely cleaned is duke's archives.

In the firelink altar, where you place the lordvessel, just in the opposite way of the door, there are like 10 vessels.
Behind them there is a huge wall. I saw a message on top of that wall today. I tried jumping to sideways since there are stairs at the end of them but I kept falling for my own death. Anybody know how one can go there? Or the game randomly puts down signs on random places?

Also directed at Glyph. In the original post here, you refer I beleive to a player saying that a certain fully upgraded weapon breaks a specific illusionary wall. Just curious if I could get the source for this, haven't been able to find it on my own, and I'd like to see it still, even if it is only that vague.

I kinda remember that. However, since there were so little informations about it nobody thought much about it, as far as I know. Although some people were saying there should be an illusionary wall in every area. Why they were saying, I don't know. Glyphblade would be a lot more helpful than I am though. I don't really remember much about it.

One other thing I thought about but didn't test. I recall seeing Quelaag having some dialogue in the text dump. Has anyone tested entering the fight with her with the Old Witch's Ring equipped to see if it changes the cut-scene at all. Most people I figure probably only equip it when they're going to talk to her sister so I figured even though it seems a bit unlikely to exist or lead to anything else, it's still maybe worth checking out.

Go up to the firelink bonfire.. wrtie a few orange messages..

drop into lordvessel hole, look up.. you should see your messages on the ceiling above the 9 pots or around it..

But yeah, I wish From can read all this so that they'd feel bad for us and tell us the secrets . Seriously though, From needs to be contacted haha

Btw, I was thinking. I was reading one of glyph's links in the beginning of this thread, and the writer mentioned how ridiculous the level cap in Dark Souls was and that it's not even necessary to reach the max level. So this got me thinking, what if it IS? Max stats and maxed out weapons. Maybe that could kill the Everlasting Dragon? and maybe make it possible to kill Kaathe and Frampt? Idk my mind's going wild right now haha

Alright glyph. I'm glad we've got atleast someone who tries even the wildest myths & theories. Please don't give up on anyting

There MUST BE an illusory wall in the duke's archives, or invisible platform at crystal caves that no-one is aware of.

    About duke's archives...
Who is duke? What's with the books and prisons? What is the giant machinery-parts, what are these picasas, and what does the strange... music box with annoying high sound?

I'm completely clueless about the story of duke's archives.

The Dukes Archives is the location for Seath.

When Lord Gwyn gave Seath how does it go bequeathed parts of the lord soul, he also made / elected Seath to position of Duke...

Seath is obsessed with knowledge, in particluar immortality, so all the books and libraries would be his collection or wealth of knowledge while searching for the secret of true undeath...

Seath does find the secret, in the form of the immortaility crystal.. Big Hat will tell you all of this if you rescue him from the cell in the Duke's Prison.

Lol, this thread.. the pendant.. the secret..

we're becoming big hat Logan and Seath obsessed with the knowledge of some secret..

As for the Picassa's, former maidens or priestess of either and or both The Way of the White and The Princess Guard. Seath experimented on them for what purpose who knows.. in undead or human forms.. and now they are the result of those crazed experiments..

The Music Box is activated by the mini snake man.. which both unlocks the Picassa's outer cell door and is likely an alarm.. as you do escape the prison cell..

The gears at the bottom of the Duke's Prison.. is still anybodies guess..

Scenery... atmosphere.. or possibly something more.. yet to be discovered..

    Shinsua Dec 19, 2011 7:45 pm
To my understanding, the gears represent nothing more than deterioration and failings over the years.
If you look at Seath's prison itself, there are tons of cells that cannot be accessed by the player, but are empty none-the-less. Seath is tremendous in size, and amongst that is a dragon who evidently possesses the ability to fly. It is more than likely that he would have the ability to fill such cells with anything or anyone he needed. Further supported by the fact that there are basically no remaining maidens, it could be that he experimented on any and all who seemed pure enough to qualify.
The pile of gears, which are basically the same as the mesh of gears operating the smaller music-box guarded by man-serpents, was likely used at one point to project the same tune on a much wider scale; irritating / controlling a vastly more numerous amount of his experiments.
By the look of the gears, they collapsed because of old age, not by any outward force.

Someone asked who the duke is...for that matter who is the Regal guy they mention? The crestfallen warrior says Logan, Tarkus and some Regal guy all tried to reach Anor Londo and failed. The archived are also called the Regal archives at some point. Haven't had a chance to play in a bit so I can't much help. As for a maxed out character, I have one (using the dragonhead cheat of course). I also have a few maxed out weapons. Haven't found any (new) breakable walls yet.

@anson: Yeah, I'm not really sure, but that's what I'd assume.

@Cloudrunner: Mmm... I don't know. The term "regal" typically implies a certain attitude or upbringing, and the fact that the Crestfallen merchant is not only relatively rude, but also sells the goods that he strips from dead adventurers doesn't bode well in that aspect.

the crestfallen merchant mentions Logan, Tarkus and Richard.. all who tried to reach Anor Londo and failed or some such... he may say royal Richard, or regal richard.. but he uses his name.. or his title.. the regal prince, royal prince..

Richards Rapier discription fills in the blanks for that..

damn Crestfallen Merchant.. should be named I'madownerdick merchant..

"your wasting your time.. where do I get my things.. why from poor fools like you .. now get along and die so I can get back to business..

and you'll never reach Anor Londo, your wasting your time trying.."

damn I hate that guy... I wish he went hollow when you come back from Anor Londo.. or acknowledged it in some way shape or form.. that we did the thing he said cannot be done..

    aside from most of town in anor londo i think its the only town that you really cant go to. unless you can of course ^^;

im more interested in it than most of the other mysteries in this game just because i can see it

    @Glyph
Thanks a lot, now I kind of get it... It just feels so weird that a dragon of sheath's size could have done experiments to small humans? What the ****, to me he's always been just a basic stupid dragon lost in someone's library.

Aside, I'm pretty sure there's something we don't know in duke's archives. I found a glitchy way that you might get to upper floors (which are unreachable by the stairs)
Go up with the upper elevator in archives (to the place where you first fight sheath)
Then use the lever, so the elevator starts going back down, but RUN OFF IT QUICK, and when it starts to go down, jump back on its' railing. From there, you might be able to roll/jump past the wall at 5th floor. You might get inviwalled down, but I think it's worth checking out.

But on topic... can't believe I've now read all 54 pages... damn I wish I could be more help, everything I've thought of whilst playing seems to already been mentioned.... I'm guessing you can't 'warp' out of the kiln by using one of the covenant rings could you? if you died whilst invading it would put you to the last bonfire you were at? Who knows... worth a shot?

So, Petrus mentions something about kindling blabla will make you powerful, then I remembered someone claiming the "kindling project" a while ago.

    How did it go?
Also, what is the "true" purpose of kindling? I mean, the NPC's were going to go on a kindle-spree. Why? Because they wanted 20 estus flasks everytime they rest at a bonfire?

@Adrikekz I always thought that you feed your Humanity to the Bonfires in order to make it produce this supposedly 'life-giving Estus' that is actually the true root of the Undead curse - it is the trickery that goes into making the Undead willingly part with the last thing that ties them to their former human self.

Anyone ever try a playthrough or anything with the Tiny Being's Ring? Its description caught my eye, as I've never looked at it before.

"Rings grant powers large and small. Their discovery, and effective use, can make one's journey easier."

Maybe it's like Old Witch's Ring or Darkmoon Seance Ring where there is a Special Purpose along with its normal use.

That, or it's merely supposed to be an introductory ring...

But that description just seems peculiar to me.

    Also, the Furtive Pygmy...Pygmy...Tiny Being...

    Hm...

Obviously you can use humanity to heal yourself, so best to do it on NG+ after gathering as much as yo can.

I laughed so hard at this. I like how Glyph has turned into a DS leader/father figure/guru/demigod for those on the hunt for hidden meaning. Can we petition FROM to add a giant weapon called a Glyphblade that when fully leveled will break down all these walls that look like they should be breakable. On a playthrough a while back after killing Gwyn I tried everything one can try in the Fire room

I homeward bone, homeward spell, I died, both from poison and symbol of averice

only to be respawned at the unlit fire ..

As to the tiny being ring, it's discription of big and small I think is a reference that it grants a % bonus to your hp..

IE if you have 100 hp and the ring is what 10% or 15% bonus to H.P.. it was 5% before 1.05.. so that'd be a small bonus.

if you have 1,000 hp.. 10% - 15% would be a large bonus..

but either way.. I can't do it in 5 mins..

and the simplest solution is.. Clear out a level area before the boss of that zone..

equip the tiny beings and run through again..

take the game and put it into little steps.

worstdream180 - thanks for posting the pics..

Solaire as a summonable spirit at the Alter of Sunlight

Petrus casting a spell in front of the statue in the catacombs where you get the darkblade ring.

And the last one Shiva walking down to ramp to blighttown..

    Those are all very interesting...

yeah Caharoth.. I ran all the options one could run at the sunlight alter with Solaire

Though it could be possible as a carry over for a new game + after the boss fight with Gwyn..

if you have summoned Solaire, if you have the rank and all that..

maybe Solaire will be around the alter or his summon sign will be..

I'll be trying it soon again.. none to worry.. but anyone can try as well..

While yes many different idea's get busted.. with so many variables in this game don't completely rule things out..

    Keep an open mind...

I'm still on my no bonfire run, got the lordvessel the other day. I have kindled the three firekeeper fires to 20 (only two left), so I had to revive for those. Since my aim is to extinguish all bonfires, should I side with Kathee and do the Dark Lord ending?

I was also thinking of a 'never touch a bonfire' run, use healing miracles and humanity instead, but scrapped it since that will prevent me from attuning spells and level up.

I just finished my first playthrough and I do believe that there may be a hidden level. Domhnall of Zena, whose other advice is 100% accurate, states that there is a dragon protected by other dragons. Where is this...perhaps in the Valley of the Drakes? Maybe there is an invisible platform that can only be reached with Fall Control and/or the Pendant. This area does seem incomplete and very small when compared to the others. Has anyone investigated this?

I know, some will say that he is talking about the Undead Dragon but that is only a mini-boss and not a real boss. Others might say that he is referring to the Path of the Dragon covenant but that would be more obscure than his other advice.

I see where many people believe that everything has been found but there are so many possibilities, I'm not sure. What about gestures? A specific one used in a specific place in combination with a particular item could be very difficult to uncover.

Regardless, I too am a bit disappointed by the storyline and ending. Not very impressive given how much work it takes to get there. Overall though, one of the more addictive games that I've played.

Yesterday I tried the miracles I had, and found that the one casted on the screenshot https://2img.net/h/i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk280/bondjbond180/image32.jpg possibly in front of the statue in the catacombs where you get the darkblade ring, is a healing miracle
It could be: "Heal", "Great Heal Excerpt" or "Great Heal".
The Wiki says: "Great Heal Excerpt: cut down version of Great Heal. Heals large amount of HP to caster. (NOTE: This spell does not affect allies as the erroneous load screen info would have you believe.)". I can't play right now because I'm at work but it would be interesting to test that spell in that specific place... at any time, or before finding Reah with the hollow clerics... (better if those strange white rings in the Catacombs are touched first). Just an idea.

Near the undead dragon, there are these..."roads" (can't remember the correct word) where you can climb up the mountain just a little bit, but it suddenly stops.

And inksoldier..... VERY GOOD POINT! I'm sure no-one has tried that yet.

That's intresting. I wonder what would happen as well.

On the other hand I have a question. What happens if you ring only one bell? The one after Quelaag. Does the Sen's Fortress open up after that or do you have to ring two of them? I remember Kaathe had similar lines to "I'll open up Sen's Fortress for you. Go to Anor Lando from there and obtain the Lordvessel." or something like that.

@Dig: I thought about that but it may be a red herring. Domhnall specifically says that the Dragon is defended by dragons and that doesn't seem to apply to the covenant, who are more interested in invading others.

All of Domhnall's other messages are 100% literal and it would be an obscure reference to the Dragon covenant. It seems like a more literal meaning would be a hidden passageway in The Valley of the Drakes defended by the aforementioned.

@netman: No no, he said that he is guarded by those who wish to become dragons themselves not actual dragons. That's why they get the Dragon Head and Torso. Once equipped you look pretty much like a dragon complete with fire breath. I can 100% guarantee it's the covenant.

This is what he says: "Hmm...You are a fine trading partner.Rumour it may be, but I have heard of a surviving ancient dragon who resides in this land.A coterie of Undead serves the dragon, as they train to become dragons themselves.Sounds unlikely, but you never know, do you?"

@inksoldier I attempted to keep him alive during a playthrough, but I actually got infected by a Gravelord and there ended up being a Black Phantom Iron Knight in addition to the regular.

I couldn't aggro one without the other, so needless to say they both had to fall.

over the next few days I will be charting a complete dialogue and options, rewards, consequences of all NPC activity...

we've covered an enormous amount of information in this thread

Things I am more interested in looking for is the proper and full path for all interactions..

Such as - meeting Patches in the catacombs first, killing Pinwheel, then going back to firelink.

Does anyone know when Reah shows up what triggers her appearance?

The gargoyle church bell.. has anyone done the pinwheel first before ringing either bells?

On my last or current playthrough I went through blighttown first, killed Quelagg..

Then did the gargoyles.. Lautrec triggers killing the firemaiden when you enter the undead parish or after ringing the second bell..

Basically if you do blighttown first, Lautrec is still there..

anyways.. throw down what you've found out so i can get a better idea of what to expect / not do / to try etc..

@Glyph I actually like to do Pinwheel first (for the Rite of Kindling).

Nothing happens immediately after. You pretty much progress through the game as normal. After you Ring the Gargoyle Bell, though, Reah has never appeared for me at Firelink. Petrus just acts normally.

Then, after Capra Demon, Petrus acts as if he's already gone to the Catacombs and 'lost' Reah. She never appears at Firelink.

I've done it two or three times and it's pretty much been exactly the same.

In the undead parish, if you're exiting the cathedral heading towards andre/sens fortress, on the left side immediately down the stairs and back around (behind the crossbow soldier) I saw something tiny run away and disappear kinda like crystal lizards do, but it definitely wasn't a crystal lizard

Tiny rats in the depths run away, but you can't lock on to them.

Yes, Pinwheel first makes reah go straight to tomb of giants.
About Lautrec (if I remember this correctly): I have defeated Taurs, Bell Gargoyles, Hydra, Moonlight, Quelaag, Ceaseless, Pinwheel, Capra and Gaping without ringing any of the bells. I also unlocked Blighttown from the Depths, but never entered, went through Valley of Drakes instead. Lautrec left Anastacia alone until I finally picked up the Firekeeper Soul in Blighttown. So ringing both bells or taking the firekeeper Soul should trigger his murder.
Reah: She appears after you visit the Depths, if you dont ring the bells, I think she was there after I picked up the Large Ember in one playthrough.
Patches: He will be in the catacombs until Reah comes to firelink. Just do his sidequest without killing Pinwheel, and reah should appear in firelink later. Patches' sidequest also involves not forgiving him after both incidents, so he'll give you some humanity both times.

If there is a secret I don't think it'll come from exposing an illusory wall. Rather, it will most likely be done the way to Darkmoon was. I believe that to be far more plausible as it would require certain items or circumstances to unlock and could easily go unnoticed for months. I'm moving my search more to the pendant, Ring of the First Born and white Seance Ring. Areas that I think may have an effect or reaction to are the Asylum, Tomb of The Giants, Demon's Ruins, Duke's Archives, and possibly the Kiln. Crystal Cave is also an area of interest just because of the invisible platforms. easy place to not ever find a secret if there is one.

I took the bird down all the way, pre-patch, with red stone ring and crystal ring shield. CRS would take the birds hp well below half, but he would leave. So I shot him with arrows until about half hp then shot him with shield. I tried forever and I can pretty much confirm that you can't kill him.

Since this is a thread about secrets I have to ask, has anyone really tested the White Seance ring? I swear there has to be something to that ring, maybe in Catacombs/TOG? It shares a very similar description to the Darkmoon Seance ring but with Way of White instead of Darkmoon.

I just asked myself the other day: why every undead in the game has its corpse somewhere in the game, so where is our body in the game? Maybe someone has already asked this, but I haven't find an answer myself. Also you get Anastacia armor but not from her body. And at the beginning of the game she brands our corpse with the darksign [common knowledge I suppose]. I also believe on a connection between Anastacia and Reah because of their dresses being identical. Anastacia's is darker because of her "job" on the bonfires. And if Reah is trying to put an ending to the curse as she says why not take down Anastacia since she brands the undead???? wtf so many ******** I said lol

You got some stuff confused there buddy. The Way of White reveres the Fire Keepers. They believe kindling the bonfires will grant them special powers of something equally glorious. Therefore, they revere those who keep the fires alive. In reality it's the opposite of that. Keeping the bonfires lit spreads the curse of the Undead as it requires humanity and the loss of humanity will trigger the Dark Sign. Also, the undead in the opening cannot be the player as it's a normal knight. No matter what class you choose it's always a knight. But it is believed to be Anastacia over the corpse but I really don't know about here branding the undead with the Dark Sign.

In Sens Fortress right before the Golem, the other path leads to an empty tower. The floor looks weak but I don't have a maxed hammer or large weapon. You can hear a knight breathing below. Has anyone tried smashing through the floor with r-stick-forward/R2?

@Cagaroth: did you try r-stick-forward/R2? Since this is the only move that raises the undead dragon in Painted World, it may be that the game considers this the strongest hit.

Finally, has anyone tried the learned gestures Pray and Prostrate in different locations? These don't seem to have a use except perhaps to access a secret area.

I've read through the entire wiki, very interesting stuff! I am now in NG++ and like to join the hunt for the pendant secret.

@inksoldier, i've kept the Tower Knight alive untill Rhea went to the chruch, the Tower Knight just disappeared...
Also left the Firekeeper soul in its place. Nothing happened.

I didn't start with pendant gift, so i had Petrus kill Rhea. I thought i had to kill two area bosses for that to happen, but after killing Moonlight, Golem, Ceaseless, Stray, Sif, Quelaag, Ornstein/Smough, she still wasn't killed. Then i went to kill Gaping Dragon and she was. So it seems killing Gaping Dragon triggers Rhea's killing.

Now that i have the pendant, i am trying to fully upgrade cleric (way of white) set, and then try some stuff.
(Is it necessary to have pendant as starting gift? or is getting the pendant from rhea also good?)

Final questions: If the knight of Astora are protectors of the Fire, why does Solaire help to kill Gwyn? And why does he want to kill his father (considering he is)?

    not sure why..

I have done several experiments with the Artorias ring, the charred ring.. dropping both before killing gwyn and the chest was opened upon starting a new game

The only difference this time was I kept the black eye orb..

Or a possible change in the order of story progression..

Digital.. the point is.. at the start of new game.. the firelink chest was closed..

I can't have the Artorias covenant ring, nor the orange charred ring.. the game is new game, so everything is reset.

What is parculiar is that the chest was closed, or could be looted.. the only item I had in my inventory at the end of the game that also did not carry over is the black eye orb.

    I am decided that either

a: the black eye orb gets taken from your inventory at new game +, but the game still sees it as a usable/game breaking type of item and sticks it in the firelink chest...

but at the same time when you load / start your new game the game does an item / npc check and then removes the black eye orb from the chest.. but leaves it closed as a program over sight..

    or B

Through out the course of my last playthrough of the game I did something in the correct order leading to the chest being closed.. but not in the correct order for what everr item to be placed in the chest.

In my last playthrough I left Logan in Sen's.. checked on him right before Gwyn and he was still in the cage

I had left Petrus to live, and allowed
Reah to go hollow, but I did not kill her in Seath's.. I allowed her to live or unlive.. what ever she is now...

I obviosuly did not kill Lautrec, and restored the firelink fire keeper with her soul from playthrough 5

I did not save Solaire, he was Maggotted, but I did kill him in self defence..

I also rescued Onion Knight jr.. but left onion knight Sr in the lost izalith pit.. never having let the floor cave in..

If you follow this idea.. it was not go through any secret area's to find the npc's

the result as I say above.. is.. was it the black eye orb ..

or was I on the right progression..

@worstdream: That reminds me of an easter egg in Gears of War 3. On a level there is a church and the bells will ring in it every five minutes or so. If your in the church a picture appears of Dom and his wife on the altar or the window. Something happens when you shoot it.

So, something could happen when the bell rings.

@Worstdream: That is an interesting idea.

    How about this:

Has anyone noticed that the Lordvessel can teleport to 8 of the 9 bonfires associated with a Covenant. The only exception is the Forest Covenant. There is no known bonfire for this purpose. It seems like it should be close to the graveyard where fighting Sif. Perhaps wearing all of the Artorias equipment, including the two swords, one in each had since that is how they are layed upon his grave. Also, the Shield and the Pendant...Armor? I don't yet have all of this equipment but perhaps someone could try it. Maybe this must be combined with the bell ringing or a gesture like praying or prostrate, to open a secret area with another bonfire.

Next, has anyone else noticed that there are "holy" statues of a mother and child located at various places, i.e. the Undead Parish altar and near the Warriors of Sunlight altar. Are there any others...has anyone tried praying at all of them? Has anyone tried praying at all of the altars in the game?

The bell ringing is other people close to you in the server ringing their bell after beating the Gargoyles.

Other person near you in server rings bell = you hearing a bell.

@netman, i have artorias shield+5 and sword+2 and pendant. Don't know what armor to wear? Does artorias armor exist?

I also don't know if you can hear the bells when you that deep in the forest...

@Robin: I've read that the Elite Knight armor is from Artorias. And it is on the game cover picture. This makes sense since it is also found in the forest.

Regarding the bell, I think you are right. I don't think you can hear it in the forest.

Interestingly, I was repelling invaders as part of the Forest Covenant last night and I got two Pendants. This is all coming together. You may want to join the Forest Covenant before performing the above tests. You might also try being hollow versus human....thanks!

    @netmann,

At first i tried every combination of gestures with shield and sword of artorias and some rings, like artorias and wolf. Nothing happened...
I've put the shield/sword on the ground, tried all kind of gestures, noting happened.

    BUT THEN....

Because i already defeated 4kings, i decided to leave the ring of artorias there and return to bonfire. Went back to Sif and the ring was replaced for a prism stone! I have also managed to repeat this!

I was wearing elite knight armor, sword/shield of artorias and ring of favor.
I joined forest hunters, and Shiva did not appear... (Joining forest hunters triggers him to appear right?)

Don't know exactly what i did yet to get prism stone, will experiment more later and report. It seems like free prism stones for everyone (those things are really expensive:P)

You get the ring of artorias back in Firelink btw.

@Robin: That is amazing! Maybe it is like Snuggly and different items can be swapped? Regardless, it does prove that there is something to this area and more importantly, that no one had yet discovered it!

Can you try different items and note the requirements...for example, is it necessary to wear Artorias equipment before it happens? I would say that if only the Artorias Ring can be swapped and only for a Prism Stone, then the game is telling us that there is a drop-off someplace of importance. I noted in another post that the Valley of the Drakes seemed suspicious to me. An invisible path could easily be hidden there.

Yes, Shiva normally appears after joining the Forest Covenant. Where did you search for him? He will not appear in Blighttown until you speak with him first in the Forest by Alvina.

@Robin: Where exactly did you drop the ring? I tried dropping the Artorias Ring at the front and the back of the gravestone but no Prism Stone. I don't have all of the Artorias equipment so perhaps it is necessary for the effect. Perhaps you could start dropping Prism Stones all over drop-off points in Darkroot Garden. There are many bridges and cliffs. Maybe an invisible path appears if you are wearing the Artorias equipment.

jy4answer.. welcome to the party ..

if you know how to read japanese.. go to the japanese wiki, japanese websites and translate the discription of the pendant.. and the sunlight medal..

see if they are the same like in our north american / english release..

search youtube using japanese for hidden ending / pendant use / or any new darksouls secrets

Cagaroth - you cannot drop the black eye orb.. it can go in your box, or on your character..

only way to get rid of it is to use it.. or have it and kill gwyn, start a new game.. and well ...

I'm curious about this artorias ring / prism stone thing..

Was the prisim stone in the form of a loot bag, a yellow loot crystal or was the stone glowing on the ground?

Checked the japanese wiki, and everything I type in this post will be from them.

    - They've also found 2 endings only.

    - Apparently the game does NOT get harder after NG++++++ (NG7), meaning NG8 will be the same as 7, and you den't get more souls either. At that stage, at vit 30 and fully upgraded heavy armor will not save you from any mob attacks, meaning any hit will kill you. (WTF)

    - Nothing new on Rhea, except that you can get 12 humanities from her with dark hand.

    - Solaire won't move from Sunlight Altare in NG+ either, and nothing we don't already know about.

    - Anastacia will actually say something if you talk to her after placing the Lordvessel (either serpants), and talk about ending the curse of the undead. Apparently this also kindles the bonfire to max automatically. I can confirm the first part, it happened for me today before reading this in NG+, but it was already maxed so I can't confirm the kindling.

I'll keep reading and keep you guys posted.

I will try to repeat the process tonight, to check what exactly it is that triggers this. And to see see if armor and sword has something to do with it.

I put the ring in front of grave, between all the swords sticking out of the ground. I also jumped of the bridge, to respawn at bonfire and backtrack to grave. I tried this in hollow and human form. One of these combinations shouls work...

The prism stone was in yellow lootable bag.

Spoke to petrus. Still waiting for reah. Became gravelord.
Skipped taurus, went to belfry. No petrus. No
Reah anywhere. Reloaded. Still no where to be found....
Killed tittyspider. Petrus acts as if rhe betrayed reah.....

I didn't talk to him where he's supposed to be all emo, and I summoned him for the Centipede Demon fight. Twice hahaha. I'll go to the shortcut to clear all the maggots to see if I can't save him. Oddities in Darkroot Basin...

    1) Lordvessel warps to 8 out of 9 covenants with exception of Darkroot Basin. This indicates a potential hidden bonfire.

    2) Dropping Artorias Covenant ring in front of grave while wearing some combination of Artorias items yields Prism Stone.

    3) Above game hint suggests that there is a hidden path reachable by drop off within Darkroot Basin. Probably only available when wearing Artorias gear. This could be invisible, aka Crystal Caves.

Unfortunately, I do not have the Artorias gear without 2 more playthroughs. I accidentally degraded one of the swords...ouch! Besides, my character is not strong enough to use it anyway so someone else will need to check this...please :-)

I think this is the best chance of finding something hidden thus far.

I have experimented further on prism stone at Sif's. In my 3 hours of experimenting, i managed to exchange ring for prism stone only once... Still don't fully understand how it is done. I do know that the time i succeeded i was in human form, equiped the ring, went to grave, unequiped the ring and dropped in in front of the grave, used several gestures (pray, proster, proper bow), used homeward bone, went to grave and nothing there, used homeward bone, went to grave and there was a prism stone...
Will try again later. I will try undead dragon drop too in full artorias gear:)

My apologies, I tried the Undead Dragon drop off a while back. I did not have any Artorias gear equipped. I was able to successfully drop a Prism Stone in several places but I always died when dropping off. Maybe the proper equipment is the key.

@robin: Yes, it would be great to have reproducible steps. I will try again also with just the sword and see what happens. Maybe only one piece is required. BTW - You should just be able to quit and reload. This normally triggers any changes without the need of dying and returning, but this may be a special case.

Has anyone noticed what appears to be a ledge in the cliff face opposite the havel tower?
Stand at the bottom of the stairs from havel and look out and up at the opposite wall. In the distance there appears to be one of those guiding flowers growing in a cave in the middle of the cliff. Not sure if there is a way to get to there or if this just scenery. Its suspicious given the guiding flower growing there.

Isn't summon range Level+/-10+10% ? At 120 this lets you summon up to 142.

yeah i didn't expect you to level but i forgot what the cutoff point was. found this on the co-op page

"Conditions for summoning (White Sign Soapstone):
The host (person who's game world will be used) must be human. The client (person joining the game) can either be human or undead.

The client’s level must fall within 10% 15% (since 1.05, tested with 78 and 90/88) (above or below) of the host’s level. Generally, this example formula should give you a good idea on whether you will be able to join: (LC x 1.1) ≥ LH ≥ (LC x 0.9), where is LC the level of the client and LH is the level of the host. For example, if the level of the host is 20, then they will only be able to summon players who are levels 18 to 22.

NOTE 1: Results calculated using the formula above are rounded DOWN to the next integer (e.g. 15,5 counts as 15).
NOTE 2: I have tested and confirmed that there can exist a 10 level difference between summoned players. -AdventRIP .
I have been summoned too by SL10 players while im at SL1. -Xx_DarkSoulsGOD_xX

Somebody confirm this: Two friends of mine managed to make party with these SLs, host=120 and phantom=142. This would mean that the 15% rule doesn't apply, maybe 10(SL)+15% or something."

There was a post on a youtube video on Gwyns music. Everything the guy said about the lore was completely incorrect, but one thing he said seemed a little bit interesting to me.

"The age of fire is SUPPOSED to end and those 10 lord vessels you see in the background is the number of times the age of man has been averted up to that point."

Sounds like a reasonable suggestion as to what those other lord vessels back at the altar are doing there (a serpent or someone would have to move them though after every person failed).

@robin86 I also agree, it's a VERY IMPORTANT thing that you discovered there! What if we could trade with Sif (before killing him) like we do with Snuggly? It could make sense, after all they are both smart animals. Someone should try dropping different items in front of the grave while wearing full Elite Knight Set, Artorias' shield and sword, that way we could know. A lot of different items. Remember to do it before killing Sif.

Hi all. I'm somewhat new to the wiki here and I've been reading this topic over the last several days (Currently up to pg40). I haven't finished my NG yet (RRoD) but I think I might have found something out.

now, more than likely this will be bogus but has anyone tried luring a giant to the inoperable gears in Sens Fort then maybe casting a friend spell on him to see if he'll opperate them like they do for all of the traps and such?

I haven't made it to Sens yet so maybe this is all out my hollowed backside but reading the Monster decription here it says "Huge warriors responsible for the machinations and protection of Sen's Fortress. Apart from the boulder giant, these do not respawn."

    Might be worth a look?

@Brosuke: it looks like the red soapstone does enforce level restrictions or we are not on the same server to trade :-(

I know that invasions using the Cat's Ring do not enforce levels. I am currently a member of the Forest Covenant. Perhaps we can try that or any other ideas that you might have?

    @robin, big discovery!!!
I dropped the Covenant of Artorias Ring in front of the tomb and nothing. Then I tried dropping the Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring (because I had 2) and no luck. Definitely you were using the necessary equipment or you did the required action for this event.
If Sif works like Snuggly the Crow he will let you trade an item only once... and it could be the reason why you can't get a new prism stone.
Artorias Ring = prism stone, maybe related items, like his sword or shield = another item.

And changing the subject a bit, that ladder at the bottom of the zig zag ramp in sen's. I asked about. It before, and a couple of people said they'd check it out, but I've read the whole thread and there's nothing yet.

I got down there before the hole filled up on NG+ but the fall was deep enough that I died, and by the time I gat back, it was full. I'll try again on NG++, but here's what I'm thinking.

If you get control of the turret in time, and can drop just enough balls to fill the hole up to where the bottom of the ladder is, go down the ladder and step in, there's got to be a hidden wall. Anybody in a place where they can try this?

@Brosuke: Sounds good to me...just say when. I started NG++ and got Sif's soul, now I just need one more. Sif has never killed me :-)

@Robin: I tried the Artorias ring swap many times without having the full Artorias equipment and I was unable to get the Prism Stone so you must be doing something unique. What the heck is it?

@thatguy: No one knows for sure if Elite Knight = Artorias armor but it is the closest to what is on the game cover picture.

I was thinking that there could be a lot of hidden stuff still to find. Look how hard it is to find the Darkwraith Covenant and if there wasn't a trophy for this, we might still be looking. Another bonfire could easily be hidden someplace, maybe with the true Artorias armor. I still think it is strange that the Lordvessel warps to 8 of 9 covenants. Perhaps not talking to Frampt or Kaathe is necessary. Or not ringing either bell. Or the right gesture in the right place. Or equiping the correct items. The possibilities are endless.

    Wait, what? I don't even...what?

I've finally read all 62 pages. I feel like I just got some sort of achieve for it.

Some thoughts I've had while reading this is that I think we're all over thinking this. If you look at everything else in the game there were prompts. Birds nest. Prompt. Coffin. Prompt. Granted with the gravelords one you needed an item in your possession but it also provided it for you like with the ring and statue. Granted, its entirely possible for there to be a hidden path you can only access walking backwards while holding a mirrored shield but there should be some indication of it.

That being said I've been wondering about something. The starting gift Pendant. Is the mention about memory only at the part where you choose your gift? Like with the Tiny Beings ring implies health regen but then says small hp boost in the game? Or does the starting gift pendant say that the entire way through? If it does then its likely not the same one you get from Reah or the invaders to the Garden since there's already been a patch which should have included a text fix for them.

I'm sorry if I'm rambling or incoherent. I've had WAY to much coffee today and need sleep.

Anyone ever think: The more you search for the meaning of the Pendant, the more you're like a hollow?

Actually I thought so way before, like 'you guys might be going a little crazy', but I didn't want to sound too skeptical. I would beleive that there might be something extra we havent found yet, but dropping Sif's stuff and wearing full Artorias gear is a little too complicated to be a condition for something to happen. Pendant whise, I think if nothing is found by now, then there might not be anything else.

But nonetheless, I'll still help out and do what I can.

Its not that I don't think there's a big secret or two stareing us in the face. I just think we might be over thinking the process a bit. I think that if wearing X while Y happens will do anything there will likely be a prompt for it when your doing it. Then again it was likely by accident that ppl discoveref how to get Toxic Mist and Dusk to appear.

There were a lot of good ideas I've read through out the 1220+ posts on this thread (think about that for a moment. Kinda epic imo) which were never followed up on. Like simply talking to someone 99+ times. Or seeing if there's any difference once the sun has gone down.

Ok, that last one I just though up because I couldn't remember another theory that was dismissed. 1220+ posts is a lot to remember...

Its a shame you can't edit posts here because putting all the ideas on page one would be so helpful, imo.

    Listen to this..

Prism stone.. Same thing. if you toss it of a ledge
This might be a clue to the fact that there is a secret/invisible walkway somewhere.

But as the rest of all the discoverys here, it might have a 0,1% chans to be true winking

@Cheadermondkey: Great idea! Consolidation of all the ideas that have been put forth. Since you have recently read the whole thread, I nominate you to post a summary ;-)

@Brosuke: I can do 3pm ET again. For me to invade, you'll need to pick an area where you have not defeated the final boss. Or you can try hanging out in the Forest near Alvina and I can wait to be summoned. You might have to fend off a number of Dark Spirits but that should be fun ;-)

@Robin: Sure is bizarre that what you are doing can't be replicated. I've tried it numerous times and can't get it to happen once, although I am still missing an Artorias sword.

@Tornesol: Yes, that is what I've been saying. It makes sense that there is a hidden bonfire. The clue is the Lordvessel. It warps to 8 out of 9 covenants. Where is the 9th? Perhaps an invisble walkway only accessible under certain conditions? The Darkwraith Covenant was also not easy to find.

    @Jyanswer: Any response from Japan?

Has anyone tried completing the game by not lighting any bonfires and extinguishing the three bonfires with the fire keepers then doing the Dark lord ending? As well as the contrary to kindling all the bonfires and lighting the final bonfire?

If you ask me the prism stone to the ring of artorias is only hinting at the fact that you can drop down that big black abyss like hole and survive. It seems to me if there is a big secret hiding in the game it has to be pendant related because the developers said there is a secret with the pendant they weren't ready to reveal. I think the areas the pendant could be involved would be
    1. Tomb of Giants: Rhea went down there on a journey and she drops the pendant upon death so therefore there might be a pendant related secret down there. Where else would be a better place to hide a secret than a big dark area with hard enemies?

    2. Darkroot forest. Simply because that players have a chance to drop the pendant. That could be a clue that its involvement is there but thats a far stretch and it seems we've spent hours there

    3. Darkmoon covenant. When you trade to snuggly you get the soul of reprisal which could be a clue.

I think we should narrow our search to those three locations with pendant related experiments as well as the white senance ring. It only makes sense that this ring would hold a secret similar to the darkmoon one. What do we know about the way of the white? Do they have a headquarters?

@Seishin: I think Firelink Shrine is HQ for Way of White. I think that the Pendant is related to Artorias and some secret in Darkroot Forest since it is frequently dropped there. Regarding the trade with Snuggly, it makes sense to get Soul of Reprisal because Pendant is dropped by invaders killed in forest by dark spirits.

Your idea of White Seance Ring opening a secret area has merit. Sometimes we miss the obvious. You should try all areas of Firelink while wearing the ring.

Trust me, as soon as the 360 is fixed I'll be doing a Pendent Run and documenting the steps and results.

There was an idea that was offered a while backwhen Glyph discovered that the Abyss and Lava Rings appeared in the Firelink Chest that no one followed up on (or maybe I accidently skipped that post). The idea was that someone with at least one of everything in the game get rid of everything they can and see if anything else was deemed "game breaking" by the developers and appear in the chest.

Still, can someone please tell me if the starting gift Pendant and the one you find (from Reah or from the forrest) say different things in the game, not just at the character creation screen? pretty please...

I'm thinking that if that IS the case then the pendant from the Starting Gift is a different one and if so then maybe the tests not done with that one wouldn't count towards the testing correctly. (dont kill me)

True, I forgot that. I wanted to kill two birds with one stone, thinking the Artorias ring and/or the White Seance ring might trigger something.

Regarding dropping all items, I don't think anything else would show up because only items that keep you from being able to complete the game are affected and these are all known. An item that opens a hidden area would not count.

What I do find interesting is the developer comment stating that some secrets would or could not be discovered during the first playthrough. There is a limited number of items that fall into that category...i.e., the Lordvessel.

Nice progression everyone. I'll also look into the artorias ring/prism stone thingy.
I also might try the idea with using pendant on one of the hollows.
Anyway, I've thought about why might devs told us to take pendant on our first playthrough? If it was story related, then on the first playthrough a person is more than likely to give lordvessel to frampt.
However, the only other way obtaining the pendant is either joining the forest covenant and getting a drop or having Rhea killed.. Maybe, Rhea isn't supposed to die and that's why they told us to get the pendant as the first item?
I dunno really, was just thinking about it and it's what came to my mind.
Anyway, don't give up guys. I think we're more close than ever.

@Robin: That make sense - Thanks

How about this guys...Why do some esssential game items let you drop them and later appear in the chest and others do not let you drop them at all? Why not just make all game-essential items undroppable (is that a word)? The best reason would be a secondary use for the item, i.e., dropping it in a specific location, i.e. the Artorias ring. Or am I missing something?

I thought that Glyph said something about the Black Eye Orb showing up there or some glitch involving it and NG+. Stands to reason that it wasn't a game breaker but still effected by that stipulation.

Which is why I tought getting rid of everything might show us something we weren't expecting.

Has anyone gotten the item in Dukes Archives prison? The one that appears to be on one of the farside of the roundabout no where near a platform? You can see it going up the ramp but there doesn't seem to be a way to drop to it. I am not referring to the maiden set.

You get to that item from the other door in the bonfire cell, I believe it's only a soul. Get the key from the cell further down first. After you open the second door, you can walk along a ledge that ends right above the gramophone.

Fairly certain covenant related items go back into the chest at firelink shrine. Just dropped the cat covvy ring and it appeared in there. Can't drop the red eye orb nor do I have a blue eye orb or any other covenant related items except the princess's guards synergy ring and the dragon head stone (dragon eye stone can't be dropped).

Testing out head stone and synergy ring.

Head stone, cat ring both go into the chest.

My synergy ring is gone forever (only have 9 faith on this character though) sad

Suns firstborn, synergy ring, havels ring, hornets ring all don't go into the chest after dropped.

Surely it stands to reason that the only things you cannot obtain until your first play through would include the use of Gywn's Soul? ie the sword of the king, sunlight spear.
So... What about his armour set and does he wear a pendant? I've only killed him once on my first try and didn't check.
What if you meet him a second time fully kitted like him?

There are plenty of things you can't obtain through your first playthrough. It of course just could mean both endings. You can't obtain both endings through one playthrough. It could also mean siding with Frampt or Kapth. There is also the chance it could be referring to Artorias gear. You can't obtain the entire set in one playthrough, it would take 3.

Also, you can't unplace the Lordvessel or unring the bells. There may be events triggered before these things. The Lordvessel in particular seems to key a lot of events on or off. For example, I freed Big Hat Logan from Sens and went back to Firelink. His apprentice Griggs say I should speak to him "right over there" but he's not there.

Someone before pointed out why the devs didn't let us drop some essential items and allowed us to drop charred ring and covenant which were later returned to us. It is proven that dropping the covenant makes something happen. On the text of the charred ring it says that it was dropped and a centipede demon arose i think that maybe you could drop this somewhere but don't know where.

    The Orange Charred Ring says:
"An orange ring enchanted by a witch. Reduces lava damage. Since his sores were
inflamed by lava from birth, his witch sisters gave him this special ring. But fool that
he is, he readily dropped it, and from that spot, a terrible centipede demon was born."

Does it say anywhere who "he" is? I would assume the spot to drop it would be there or maybe in front of the cracked wall everyone seems to be after.

Maybe it's that if you drop it into lava it spawns another demon which drops the ring which spawns a demon which drops the etc, etc, etc...

Does the Summon Sign for Laurtec show up? If you released him and then both signs are missing then maybe you've set into motion a "no help" run. I'd be interested in knowing if when you make it to Gappy if there are summon signs.

I know its been stated before about how the Chimera (or manticore) in he artbook is not in the game, but I also noticed a lot of concept art that I have not seen anywhere in the game. Mainly:
    - Spider made of body parts
    - a hollow with the sunlight maggot (not solaire)
    - the fat official on a harthog
    - A patchwork (clockwork?) man. Hmm.. Archives...
    - A four eye knight with a massive square blade sword.
    - A faceless stone gargoyle woman
    - A crossbow sniper guy in a top hat? would love that armor set...
    - giant stone worm thing... surrounded by the mosquitos? The thing that makes them? killable?
    - The infamous Manticore

I am sure a lot of this was cutting room floor fodder, but thats a lot of content in the art book that didn't make it into the game in that case.

To add something to the artorias -> prism stone drop/swap thing.

I'm currently in the burg with a new character to make some vagrants, or die trying. A fat thief with a pendant. I also picked up the copper coin and the rubbish.

I revived at the burg fire and killed all the enemies, then dropped the copper coin at the top of the staircase that leads down to the black knight. Then I let the knight kill me in front of the residence.
I then killed myself again by jumping off the scaffolding, without picking up the previous bloodstain. Then I died once or twice more while trying to jump from the scaffolding down to the narrow bridge, but picked up my bloodstain between deaths. I also killed the black knight by mistake, I believe this was before my last death, but it might have been right after my second death.

I went back to where I originally dropped the copper coin, and the bag was still there! Fail.. I picked it up to try again, but it was rubbish instead of the coin. So now I suddenly have 2 rubbish and no coin.. Strange.

I'm a bit tired, so the details might not be 100%.

The four eyed knight is Black Iron Tarkus (at least it's the same armour), an NPC who you can summon against Iron Golem. But, the ingame version doesn't have red eyes or that square bladed sword. Maybe the artbook version is an early state of him, but he got changed for the full game.

Id just like to say one thing regarding the Cinder Ring. From the quoted text earlier it appears that the sisters (i assume the spider sisters) gave him the ring and he was foolish and didn't wear it and dropped it. Thats when he turned into a blistering centepede demon?

I dont think its likely that you will find a place where you can drop it to initiate a new boss battle. Just my nooby impression of the text is all. (I created this wiki account just to say that lol)

Valid point sir. But it doesn't imply that dropping the ring anywhere would get you back to the guy whos ring it was right?

Just thinking if he did drop it and it spawned the centipede demon that we killed, doesn't that mean the demon likely killed him? Just thinking out loud, thought not always in a cogent fashion.

I don't know why Solaire would want to kill Gwyn but he says that he IS a follower of Gwyn and or his views.

"Ah, hello! I knew you would come! Just call it intuition. Ah, hello! You don't look Hollow, far from it! I am Solaire of Astora, an adherent of the Lord of Sunlight. Now that I am Undead, I have come to this great land, the birthplace of Lord Gwyn, to seek my very own sun! ...Do you find that strange? Well, you should! No need to hide your reaction. I get that look all the time! Hah hah hah! Oh, ah-hah! So, I didn't scare you? I have a proposition, if you have a moment. The way I see it, our fates appear to be intertwined. Both Undead, both imprisoned in the Asylum, and now, we both end up here. In a land brimming with Hollows, could that really be mere chance?"

Ok over the past week i've read most of this thread (amazing btw, lots of great ideas), and i'm hoping i can help.

Maybe completely wrong but i'm thinking there is more to the optional bosses:
    Moonlight Butterfly
    Stray Demon

They are really easy to beat but don't have anything decent to offer once killed, i'm thinking that MB could have something to do with Seath hence why there is more in the crystal caves and the stray demon seems a bit odd for a boss to be there.

Also could there be more to the area Kiln of the first flame it seems to me its a bit of a pointless area, could that have something to do with the furtive pygmy?

Taurus Demon, Capra Demon, Gaping Dragon, Moonlight Butterfly, Stray Demon, Centipede Demon, Firesage Demon, Crossbreed Priscilla, Dark Sun Gwyndolin, and if flash sweat allows you to walk in lava then Ceaseless Discharge can be skipped.

Those are all the skip-able bosses on a normal play through with the Master Keys, +2 Chaos Servant, and with Flash Sweat (if it works that way).

Half of us have gone hollow or missing. I'm running through the game trying things out here and there and have every single post in here being sent to my email so I can facepalm at all the repeated things and think over the new things introduced.

If it's possible to drop the ring of artorias is it possible to bottemless box glitch the ring into a new save file? You could in theory then glitch the ring into a regular NG on a new toon along with some Soul of a hero or some souls of a proud knight to raise the level on that character. You would also need to transfer havels armour (and heck EVERYTHING YOU HAVE) and lightning weapons to said character.

You could then again in theory have a new toon 10mins into the game beat the four kings without having beat any other boss in the game besides the asylum demon. You could also set it up so that you never have to fight ceaseless discharge if you could transfer the lava ring over.

Of course it is all in theory but you could glitch the game pretty bad (your save files won't be destroyed don't worry) and need to have only killed two bosses in the entire game to become a dark wraith.

    So I offer no judgement..

However.. the wiki does have policies about posting info on glitches and will lock / delete threads where they are openly discussed..

so lets keep the glitch take to pm's or fresh posts if you'd like so we can preserve this thread..

Last few days it's been beaten purty harshly what with in-fighting and silly arguements..

I'd hate to see it get locked.. specially when I think we're all either really close to finding out whats goin on with this mystery.. or really going crazy ...

The bottomless box is mostly used to clean up your inventory, so you don't have to scroll through 20 hollow soldier's shields when you are swapping weapons etc. It also makes it possible to have double the amount of any items with a max count (firekeeper souls, binoculars, arrows, dung pies), so it's not completely useless. The character creation glitch is also a godsend for the PvP community winking

the pendant unlocks the power of occult and divine weapons when equipped you get your health regeneration according to it i have tested it worked back in patch 1.2 or so but it seems it was too overpowered so they removed it's function now it was really fun back then i wouldn't even die through out the whole game i had mad regeneration as i equipped divine wep +10 and occult +5 shield i would recover around 50~80hp per second

You say "godsend of PvP" I say "breaks PvP". But, not the thread for the topic.

With the TextDump and Credits Hunting it kinda feels like cheating. By hunting through all of the text we know that there's nothing omg worthy from any of the NPC's re: Pygmy/Pendant connection. There's also no "Pygmy" credit so unless there's a silent cutscene I assume that it might be the wrong tree we're barking up.

Something I forgot about, because it was before I knew about this thread and the hunt, was one time on my female character, I was buying something from the undead merchant and I had exhausted all the "talk" options, she was just repeating herself, so I hit "leave" and spammed A to get through her parting dialog when I noticed I was spamming through new dialog about some goddess or some such. I tried to recreate it for several minutes but just chalked it up to a glitch. At the time I thought someone else's dialog might have played by accident.

Also, the eternal dragon isn't the firekeeper for the bonfire. He/she doesn't offer to increase your estes flask with firekeeper souls does he/she?

How about old londo ruins. That seems like a viable spot for a hidden path/invisible wall.
There is also Tomb of giants. That is a spot equally as easy to hide something. It can also be a spot that isn't as secret it just requires certain events be met prior or a certain item be equipped similar to darkmoon. I wouldn't put all your eggs into one basket like that and say I quit. Too many options still available.

Earlier, I was reading a forum on game FAQS where a guy called SadoSadoSado gave a huge explanation as to what the pendant could mean. This guy is a genius. He may have just solved our little mystery. Basically he was saying how the pendant was related to the furtive pygmy mentioned at the start of the game. He says that if you go to where the lord vessel is placed and turn around you will see 10 torches, each representing a covenant in the game, with one torch on top representing a tenth hidden covenant. A covenant led by the pygmy. It is supposed to represent nothing. No emotions or anything like that. Just NOTHING. In other words, the covenant is meant for hollows. Undead with no emotions. The pygmy was the one who caused the curse over Lordran after the war, and naturally he wants it to stay that way. And here comes the best part: Every other covenant apart from three, are in some way related to the other guys with lord souls, or the war for control. Warrior of sunlight-Gwyn. Gravelord servant-Nito Four Kings-Darkwraith. Path of the dragon-Seath. Chaos covenant- The witches of Izalith. Princess guard- Related to Gwyn. However, there are 3 covenants that don't fit with this trend. Forest hunter, way of white, Blades of the darkmoon. They are probably in league with the pygmy, wanting the same goal: To keep the curse of the undead. For example, you all probably thought that Petrus was the bad guy. What if he tried to kill her because he didn't want the curse to stay? The way of White mission was to get the rite of kindling, probably to give to the pygmy so he could use it for his own means. Remember, Petrus killed Rhea AFTER she got the rite of kindling. The pendant is the item that represents this alliance to the pygmy between these three covenants. And it all makes so much sense. The pendants description describes it as useless, or in other words unknown, as though people just THINK that it is useless. Just like the pygmys description "So easily forgotten". This means that people were right. The pendant is useless. What it is meant to signify is the unholy alliance formed between these 3 covenants and the pygmy and by choosing this item as your gift it shows that you are part of this secret society and this will tie in with some sort of third ending about the pygmy. Now all we need to do is find the trigger. That's what we're having trouble with! Finding the way to start this chain of events! Still not convinced? Well how about this: each covenant bears relations to the pendant that signifies the bond. Rhea drops one at death. The pendant is a covenant item with the forest hunters and when you trade with snuggly, you get a souvenir of reprisal, the covenant item of the blades of the darkmoon. I think SadoSadoSado is onto something here, it just seems like such a plausible theory! The greatest video game easter egg of all time! If someone starts the game with a pendant, its now up to them to find this secret trigger, something to do with the pygmy. Maybe he's the secret boss of the dukes archives! It would make sense why Rhea (One of the people in league with the pygmy) turns hollow there. What do you think guys?

One idea that might be interesting to try is to start a game, join way of the white. Go to catacombs, kill patches, kill pinwheel then continue the game until Rhea appears. Maybe she wont venture to the catacombs and something might change.

@SeishinKizuna Interesting, but I have to disagree. The covenants are intricately designed, more or less to protect the lie behind the Undead Curse and their relation to Gods.

First, one must realize that there are two live-giving items in the game - the Estus Flask and the Humanity.

The Way of White is the covenant whose aim is to help one another, with the ultimate goal of finding the Rite of Kindling. Reah never finds it - she gets lost in the Tomb of the Giants (you, the player, eventually obtain it). This covenant is set up to deify Kindling and give it a holy status. In reality, however, the deification of Kindling is really just a clever way to convince a cursed Human to willingly destroy their Humanity - trade the life-giving Humanity and receive the life-giving Estus. What is really being traded, though, is the only thing keeping a cursed Human from going completely Hollow.

The Darkmoons are assassins of the Gods. Darkwraiths are assassins fighting on the side of Humanity. The Darkwraith invades a game in order to kill the host, but their ultimate goal is to harvest, protect and preserve Humanity. However, the host can indict the Darkwraith...and when he does, he will be on the Darkmoon hitlist.

Darkmoons are essentially Darkwraith assassins, their goal being to kill a Darkwraith in Human form so that he must destroy another Humanity to return to Human form. Granted, their targets extend beyond merely Darkwraiths...but they if you've 'done something wrong', you can be sure the Darkmoon will be there to take away your Humanity.

Forest Hunters are the most out-there of the three, but I think their purpose is merely a smaller-scale Darkmoon operation - their turf is localized, but they seek to destroy anybody who is seeking too much knowledge about Gwyn's Knight-turned-Darkwraith Artorias. They don't attack Hollows because Hollows are halfway to crazy, anyway - just how the Gods like their Humans. They attack you whilst Human to not only protect their secrets, but eliminate your ties to your former Human self as well (just like Darkmoons).

The Gods have set up an intricate network of deception in order to convince Humans to part with the last thing tying them to their former, uncursed selves - their Humanity. The Gods want to wipe out Humanity to prevent the rise of the Dark Lord. So, the more they convince you to destroy and the less time you spend as a sane, Human-form person, the better.

The Pendant, I've theorized, is a useless item simply in order to make the game more challenging from the get-go (simply a starting gift with no benefit). I also think that you receive a Souvenir of Repirsal from Snuggly for it to represent the revenge you must take against the 'Gods' for their crimes against Humanity. I think you get the Pendant from the Forest Covenant because another player had one on their person when you kill them. I think Reah has one in case you didn't choose it in the beginning and then want one.

This is all just me, though. Obviously we don't gotta agree.

Another idea I don't believe has been tried is running through the game as cursed. I don't think I'm good enough player to try that but Seath seems to be a pretty influential character throughout the lore of dark souls. Perhaps being cursed triggers something maybe chat with a NPC or a unwalkable service.

I tried to meet Reah at Firelink dressed in Holy Set but the dialogue didn't change. Someone talked to her with the set of Paladin Leeroy (Sanctus and Grant included)?
"Long ago, the Way of the White produced its
first Undead, a paladin in golden armor.
With the legendary treasures Grant and
Sanctus, Leeroy set out for Lordran,
Land of the Gods, in the first Undead

The idea with 10 torches is intresting. However, Path of Dragon is not related to Seath and if Princess' Guard is related to Gywn, Darkmoon should be too since one is led by the daughter of Gywn and the other is led by the Gywndolin, the son of Gywn. Actually, both of them is led by Gywndolin since Gywnevere is just an illusion, created by Gywndolin to trick undeads, who departed on the quest to kill Gywn, into link the fire instead of letting the age of fire end.
On another note, Reah never got the rite of kindling and I agree with what @JohnnyHarpoon said about covenants. He pretty much summed it all up.
So, I don't think those three covenants are linked. Petrus might be a spy or something, working for the darkwraiths though. He might be killing those who seek the rite of kindling to prevent the loss of humanity.

Given how much work has been going into this search for a hidden ending, I am starting to believe that there may not be one.

Johnnyharpoon is pretty dead-on about the pendant having no benefit thus making the game slightly harder at the start. I think it is the same as the old witch ring which only gives you the ability to converse with said npc. The logic behind the pendant becoming a souvenir I think does lead credence to perhaps this just being someone taking it out on the gods.

How much work has been done? There are so many possibilities that I'm not convinced that everything has been found. Some refer to Japanese players doing speed runs of NG7 and beyond but I think that their environment is less likely to find secrets. The tendency when going for the NGx is to get there as quickly as possible using tried and true methods. They are not going to find anything new.

On the contrary, I think only a few people like those on this wiki try the unusual, and even fewer actually do try something new. Most rely on others to test their theories. Who are the others that are doing the testing? I've done a few tests but I don't have the necessary equipment, stats, and time to try everything that I have thought of.

shoot me a message on xbox and I'll let ya know when I have a char in your sl range..

however if your having problems with the 4 kings..

Greater magic barrier, found in the great hollow..

Go human and summon Witch Betrice,

Cheese it and equip havels and greater magic arrow, soul spear , crystal homing soul mass

with greater magic barrier you can purty much take any hit with little damage from the kings..

use magic and range attacks to split the aggro between you and the witch..

or alternately get in tight and melee with a hard hitting weapon..

Though I have had the best luck with greater magic arrow, logan catalist, dragon crest ring, Gywndolins crown, and strafe range attacks...

This is of course for later playthroughs..

If your having trouble with the darkwraiths... slumbering draon crest ring..

you can walk up behind 5 of the wraiths without them so much as turning around..

@Dust You are absolutely right, forgot about the Divine Blessing. Still, that is the outlier in the situation, as Humanities and Estus are literally traded for one another. DB are simply a rare, miracle cure-all.

@JY4 Because of his Covenant with the Abyss. The Darkwraiths are literally a Covenant that operates out of the Abyss.

@Drethan Something is definitely up with a few members of the Way of White covenant. Don't forget, Paladin Leeroy is all 'summon me, Way of White, yadda yadda' and then 20 minutes later he's all 'INVADE INVADE DIE' so clearly there's more than meets the eye.

Well, you do have an interesting Stat Setup. You seem to have all the popular weaponry, and even the armor. Even the popular ring at best. You also have a useful ring, in which you can collect Transet Curses, if you do not think you can use the cursed sword, rather use the spear or whatnot. Yours stats are balanced, except for strength, but you did not include resistance.

When against the ghosts, best to kill them one at a time. Due to them ignoring all signs of walling, they can surround you with ease. They are not the fastest enemy, so By leading them out one at a time, you can kill them. When in tight spaces, dont use the greatsword. Use transet curse, and use your spear and shield. In open spaces, just swing with your cursed sword, and they should go down in 2, if not 1 hit.

The Darkwraiths are easy. When against them one at a time, Lock onto them and circle them. When they do the long thrust, go behind him at show him who's boss. If he does the 3 or 4 hit combo, keep your shield up, and walk back and sideways. Roll backwards if your shield and stanima can not take it. The hand grab, just move sideways.

When against two of them, get your spear out, and go to a place where only one can go threw, like a tight corridor. Just jab and make sure your stanima does not hit 0. If you have problems with the black slimes, kill the Darkwraiths first, and just keep jabbing at the slime with your sword one on one. Block when necessary.

    Hope that helps

Well, its better than no resistance. Still, just follow the pattern, you'll be fine. Just remember than, when you do battle the Four Kings, equip your RING! And make sure that you have your crest shield out, because magic and physical dmaage will be onto you non-stop. Their is a time when a King will charge up, that is usually when he will grab you, take your humanity, and crunch you like a bug. When you see that charge, move back. Other than that, stay close to him, and slash! When close, two-hand if you have to. Make sure their is no more than 2 kings afyter you in total, because it will make your life miserable. You don't have to kill a total of four kings, just decrease the bar to 0. Killed 2 and a half, when I defeated the boss(es). You best just slash, and dodge. Stay close, and only back away when he is going to grab you.

    Good Hunting.

@Drethan "This ring symbolizes Knight Artoria's covenant with the beasts of the Abyss.
Its wearer, like Artorias himself can traverse the Abyss." - The Covenant of Arty

"Sword born from the soul of the great grey wolf Sif, guardian of the grave of the Abysswalker Knight Artorias. Sir Artorias hunted the Darkwraiths, and his sword strikes harder against dark servants." - It's true, this is the description of his sword. But...

"Sword born from the souls of the great grey wolf Silf, guardian of the grave of the Abysswalker Knight Artorias. The sword can damage ghosts, as it was cursed when Artorias joined a covenant with the creatures of the Abyss." - His cursed sword.

So, it's merely my belief that he was originally a Darkwraith Hunter of sorts, only to eventually traverse the Abyss, discover the truth and become a Darkwraith (joined a covenant) himself.

I have tried many different combinations with Way of the White:

    Started as female Cleric.
    Pendant starting gift.
Saved Reah and tried all manner of communicating with her using Pendant, White Seance Ring, Maiden set, etc. She still goes Hollow in Archives. Could not save her in Archives.
Tried saving Pisaca sisters and let them live. Nothing changed even up until Gwyn battle.
Tried casting all manner of spells at all Infant Statues using various healing, seek guidance, etc while wearing White Seance ring and Ring of the Sun's Firstborn, Maiden set, Cleric set from patches.
First playthrough in Way of the White. Placed Lordvessel with Frampt. Chose "To Link the Fire" ending.
Tried Hitting all suspicious areas with fully upgraded Divine weapon while in Way of White, White Seance Ring, Maiden Set, Ring of Firstborn.
Tried using Great Lightning Spear on various suspicious hidden door areas.
Tried Wearing Gwyn's full garb and Great Lord greatsword to hit all suspicious walls/doors.
I left Firekeeper soul on the altar where Reah would appear. Nothing changed.
I used no Firekeeper souls first playthrough, nothing changed.
In second playthrough, used White Seance ring and Ring of the Sun's firstborn the entire time.

I'm sure I tried some other stuff, but no luck so far.

    Peace,

using the curse sword sure you have the stats..

but it won't let you block the ghosts attacks..

using transient curse you can use what ever weapon you want to hit the ghosts..

but more importantly.. you'll be able to lock on to them and block them... which is more vital than anything

hello everyone !! ive been reading this section and finally i decided to join.
well i have something to tell you, i dunno if its some kind of glitch but some time ago in november, it happened to me a very strange thing, that i never heard about in the wiki or other forums and videos on the web.
it was my 1st playthrough, i had like 20 hours play and didnt explore any area other than darkroot, undead burg and the depths.
i was in the depths that day having problems with the frogs and i got invaded by kirk. I killed him and continue playing. idont remember why i died and where i respawn but suddenly every single enemy in that area became an invader, i mean everyone became red, the rats the basilisks. i thought it was really weird and i expected something to happen but time passed and nothing... i decided to leave via menu and when i returned everything stayed the same. i got panic and feared my saving were corrupted but continue playing. evendtually got killed and respawning to the depths bonfire all went back to normal. i was happy not to have to start a new game. but then it happened again in the same zone. what i remember is being in the part inmediatly after the bonfire, where there are some steel stairs down that let you see the giant rat, and it was red i got really really scared because i already killed it and then noticed the door that leads you directly to Domhal of Zena was closed from the other side AGAIN so i had to make my way to open it again. and noticed that some fog zone where i already entered was closed too. Then i used the bone to get back to the bonfire and i was surprised THAT door was closed too so i cant do anything since the door to that specific bonfire is opened from the other side and there is no way to do so, also teh bonfire wasnt lite... again panic PANIC...that time i decided to turn off the console without quitting via menu... and everything went back to normal AGAIN. i finally managed to kill the gaping dragon.
Later that day i returned to firelink bonfire and for some reason i died, when respawning that bonfire was unlit AND i had the two onion knigths next to me. Also was ingward where he is after leaving new londo, there was Frampt in his hole, the Hyena , Petrus, Rhea & her bodyguards, Logan and his apprentice every NPC in their respective places in the firelink zone. what really scared me was the fact that i couldn interact with anyone, the A button did not work but the characters still stared at me (notice that when you stand near someone they turn their head to look at you). then i went to the entrance to the undead burg and noticed that it was closed with the fog again the same as the steel door that leads to the female merchat, again i could not do anything cause the action button didnt work...
when i returned to the firelink, i went downstair and met with Lautrec and Anastasia and i attacked him and he stood up just to look at me so i killed him without him becoming hostile and received the Favor Ring. also i killed one of the onions and got his ring. I repeat ive only explored the Burg, the Depths and Darkroot so i ve never seen Ingward, Lautrec, Patches or Frampt.. turned off console and all the NPC werent there anymore, when i went to see Anastasia i received her gear. later in that same playthrough i were able to kill Lautrec in Anor londo, got Anastasia's soul but couldnt retrieve it to her.

Hey guys totally new to Dark Souls AND this Wiki but something weird happened in my game and I thought I'd share.

After reading about the gargoyle chick and seeing the E3 pics of her I think I may have encountered her in my game.

I know about invading zones and phantoms and what not, and I know what one looks like. I was 'invaded' by a phantom with a strange 's' sounding name who looked EXACTLY like the pics of that gargoyle chick. It did not look like any other player that I've seen in game.

I was in Anor Londo right after the first time I used the circular life that takes you up the large set of stairs leading to the 2 Large Knights. I got the invaded message like any other phantom.
She was red, like any other phantom, but she turned herself into an urn and was sliding around. Very odd and a little creepy. She changed shape back and forth from urn to gargoyle and finally soul speared me and 1 shot killed me. She moved crazy fast, faster than any footage I've seen from any players during youtube videos of PvP battles and the like.

Don't know what it means, just thought I'd share something weird especially after reading that the gargoyle hick was seemingly left out of the game.

I'm sorry I can't properly link the person or the post in this thread who posted a link to the infamous "Text Dump" but after spending the day reading through it I have to say that if its not "fake" its atleast "incomplete".

As far as I understood it the TD was all of the textualized (not a word, I know) data from the game. I assumed this would include weapon stats (which would just look like jumbled numbers) as well as all thos random world events like being invaded and such.

The TD I read didn't have this. It does have conversations from Gwyndolin, ???, Solaire, Lady of the Darkling, Oscar, Logan, Griggs, Dusk, Anastacia, ???, Reah, Petrus, Vince, Nico, Gwynevere, Gwyndolin2, Laurentius, Quelaag, Quelaan, Eingyi, Quelana, Ingward, BS Andre, BS Vamos, Giant BS, BS Rickert, UD Merchant, UD Merchant (Female), CF Merchant (looks at the remaining 10pages of printed out text)...look, there's a lot here, but no way is it everything.

Anyone here with the ability to do a TD and then post it or know where a complete TD is?

Hi guys, I finally got to the last page of the thread. It has been really exciting. I hadn't read it before because I'd just finished my first playthrough. I got the dark lord ending, I didn't even know that there was a bonfire in the kiln.
Anyway, I can see that you already tried almost everything that could be done in order to reveal the pendant's secret.
I started my NG+ and I am trying to pay attention to the tiniest detail and my next stop will be the ToG.
Somethings that come to my mind like why not people who has the same level and are able to perform miracles, do it at the same time in the same place in order to create a bunch of resonance rings? It could be just a silly idea, but... what if...? After all the mp aspects of the game are greater in this game that the previous one, with all this covenants features and stuff.
Another point, Jampire said that he got invaded in Anor Londo in the bridge that leads to the rotating staircase. It happened to me to in my first playthrough. I remember I was coming back from the main entrance where the two knights stand, I wanted to go back to the bonfire to charge my estus flasks, I remember that I had already killed the 2 gargoyles, and haven`t beaten O&S yet, actually I still had to pass the two snipers (suckers) in order to enter the building when the invasion took place.
TBH I can`t remember if it was a player, I do remember that it was a kind of darkwraith phantom, that it one shot killed me and I was already leveled up, like at least sl60 something.
I was actually waiting to happen again in my NG+ but it didn`t.
So, it might be nothing, I don`t know, I let you decide it with your experience.
Anyway, I`ll try to contribute with any strange findings I come across.
    Great Work Everybody!!! Specially Glyph!!!

    @ublug
Thanks mang, now I've got them DL'd to my phone and can go over them (when/where)ever.

I've just started skimming the one with the items and I've noticed that there's one entry for each weapon and each possible enchantment on it. The exception to this rule seem to be the Boss Soul Weapons. I've found 20 entries for Greatsword of Art +0-+5 and the same for the Greatlords Greatsword. What does this mean? Why so many entries when once per + would do? If there were 10 only then I'd say; "Ok, one per Enchantment so there's a special hidden way to enchant them". But 20? Maybe once for the offencive and defensive? If it was only Art's then I'd say it was once per normal and once per cursed per enchantment but Gwyns sword kinda throws a monkey wrench in that theory. I'll keep digging.

Also, I picked up the Official Game Guide so I'll be going through that as well. But something I noticed on page one is them talking about how many times they died making the guide for us. Which tells me that all the information in there they got the same way we're getting our info which means that the pendent stuff isn't in there because they just didn't find it, not because its not there.

    Hope. We has it.

    I just thought of something...
Are you able to give the Giant BS the Embers you'd normally give the other BSs? I haven't read a line where he would acknowledge and ember yet send you to someone else? Maybe its possible to add enchantment flavors to Epic Weapons then? Likely not.

I also have to address something. Someone has said that the secret to the pendant is that there is no secret and that's the entire point, to make the game that much harder by selecting something that does nothing. This is BS (and I don't mean Blacksmithing, either). There's an option to not take any starting gift. Why then have an item that acts as if you've chosen nothing when you can chose nothing.

The director says it does something and if he was trolling us then he would lose face and the respect of the gamers he trolled.

There is a secret to the pendant.

!!!...I just realized something. The gestures. They're directions! They can be used as a codes. My Xbox can't get here quick enough. I'm seriously jonzing for some DS.

The director also said he recommended the pendant OR no gift as a starting gift as opposed to the master key for your first playthrough. That could simply mean he wants the person to experience the entire game for his first playthrough by selecting a gift that does nothing ie nothing/pendant.

Lautrek finds his own way out of the cell if you don't spring him before the Gargoyle fight. This happened on my first toon and I thought it was a glitch but its just scripted this way. During that game he did not offer me the "Tip" about Reah nor show up as a summonable for Gap Dragon.

    @Acid
The TextDump doesn't read like an entry from the wiki would. There are times where there are no spaces between words and the grouping of the text is large lump of text containing weapon names, jumbled unintelligible text, larger lump of text containing ring descriptions, jumbles lump of mess, NPC names, and so on. So its a little difficult to pinpoint one string of information. Plus, I'm guessing that the secret the pendant unlocks would be hidden in the programmer coding instead of the text since scores of other people smarter than I have already combed through it.

DS before Demon's Souls *just more info for our minds*
Reading in wikipedia about other games of From Software, I found the next extracts:

King's Field (キングスフィールド) is a role-playing video game series developed by From Software. While the first three installments continued a single story, the fourth (King's Field IV) begins a new story. All King's Field games share elements of gameplay and some common items. The Moonlight Sword has been a recurring element in every King's Field title as well as items such as the Earth Herb and Antidote. A so-called "spiritual successor" to the series, named Demon's Souls, was released February 5, 2009 in Japan for the PlayStation 3.

King’s Field - Synopsis: There was a small country called Verdite surrounded by a deep forest, encircled by fog and whirling winds. In ancient days, when a great battle was fought and many were dying, Verdite was saved by a person who then disappeared into the forest. Only the forest's drifting fog knew who this person was... The citizens called their savior the Dragon of the Forest and built a sanctuary and honored this person there. Eventually, only a legend remained and the Sanctuary was changed into the Royal Graveyard and all was silent. But, the legend says, "Someday the Dragon of the Forest shall return, bearing Magical Artifacts." However, the time has not yet come and the Sanctuary sleeps deeply...

King's Field II: The game takes place on the island of Melanat. You take the role of Prince Alexander, who has taken it upon himself, as one of the king of Verdite's closest friends, to retrieve the holy sword known as the Moonlight Sword, and return it to King Alfred of the kingdom of Verdite. Alexander is washed up on the coast of Melanat, as the sole survivor after the ship he came with sank into the ocean. To find the Moonlight Sword, Alexander must press ever forward and uncover the secrets the dark island of Melanat holds.

King's Field III: The player takes the role of Prince Lyle Austin Forester (son of King Alfred) as he struggles to uncover the reasons behind his father’s sudden descent into madness and to restore peace to the suffering kingdom of Verdite. This time around, a large portion of the game takes place above ground, but the main aspects of gameplay remain unchanged: first-person battles, puzzle solving and exploration.

King's Field VI: An accursed idol responsible for the destruction of an ancient race has resurfaced to wreak havoc once again among the kingdoms of man. You must return the idol to the Ancient City to break its curse, but monsters of unspeakable horror haunt the ruins. There is a palpable fear in the air of the Ancient City - even the monsters themselves fear the evil that has returned. Treasures beyond imagination await the warrior bold enough to attempt the journey, strong enough to face the minions of death, and wise enough to follow the path that leads to the essence of light. Use your sword arm well to rid the land of a potent curse. Be aware that should the sword fail, you have the magical arts to serve you in your quest. Learn the proper time and place for each or you too shall be counted amongst those lost forever.

While reading through the text I came across the description of the Prism Stones.
"Warm pebble emitting a beautiful phasing aura of seven colors, with a very rare eight.
The rainbow stone does nothing special, but can serve as a path marker, and can be dropped off a cliff to judge height by the sound of descent.
If a loud noise is heard upon its landing, then a fall off the ledge is surely lethal."

The part that caught my eye like a rusty hook was "seven colors, with a very rare eight." Could this very rare eighth be used to indicate when you are near a secret area? It should be fairly easy to test this out by dropping a lot of them to get the 7 normal colors and then dropping a few near some known secret areas, like the hidden wall by the garden which hides the Bonfire. If this works the way I hope it does then it will dramatically cut down the trial and error process.

On a side note I'm not able to find a posting about what the 7 colors are so I wouldn't know what the 8th one would be other than to assume it's white or black.

That's intresting. While the resembelance of Artorias and the so called hero in the first game is obvious, I could find none other similar things excluding the moonlight sword and "the king has gone mad" part which happens in Demon's Souls too. I wonder if the prince has ever got rescued by someone...

I really tried to read it all but I couldn't.

I once invaded someone's game and pulled the switch in the archives that opens the bookcase. Is there a way to open the other passages to bypass Seath first encounter?

Can you cast Homeward or use Homeward Bone in Seath's room?

No way to reverse engineer this game to just gain visibility into what functions exist and what triggers them?

Sadly, I think we've hit the wall.

    *spoilers*

To beat the game you must
    Kill Sif
    Kill 4 Kings
    Ring both bells
    Acquire Lordvessel
Acquire the three boss souls of lords
    Kill Gwyn.

Hm. I can't think of any other alternate routes...

Great game regardless. Maybe From will release a patch and pretend like some new feature was there all along winking

@peter I kinda thought they were going to do that for a while now, I doubt he expected people to take the pendant quest so thoroughly so now he's just going to be in a pendant patch next and try to make some clever way to activate it that no one tried so he doesn't get sue'd lol.

@Glyph earlier you stated that the japanese players said certain walls can be broken with fully upgraded weapons. Which wall is that? Is there a example of one?

After he mentioned that people here went out with fully upgraded weapons (both mundaine and godlike) and banged on all obvious walls they could find. So far it's "Plausable" but not confirmed.

    @Peter re: Reverse Engineering
There may be something to that. Or at least something simular. In Halo3, it took a programmer taking the code apart to figure out the correct sequence of events with the Halo Rings.

I'd personally hate to have to resort to that because it's admitting defeat. It's saying; "Ok, you're a better game programmer than we are game players."

I would like this games director to show a few people, like a rep from each gaming mag, how to do it then swear them not to tell anyone the mechanics of the process just so we can have someone say they saw it happen and it's possible.

    2 Things:

1)I've mentioned this before but I'm not sure on which thread: Patches is the only character to appear in both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. (unless I am forgetting someone) I can't help but feel this is significant. He is called patches the hyena in the first game and he wears the same outfit. Considering they didn't keep anything else (except for their signature moonlight sword that is in every game) wouldn't it stand to reason that he is a key component to any mysteries?

    2) Certain characters and events would not trigger in demon's souls unless you had a certain world tendency which was influenced by your good/bad decisions. This game does not show you your tendency but instead has a concept of sin that was introduced. I'm thinking that the morality of certain decisions may effect events. Knowing that Lautrec is a megadouche, i would even think that doing things like summoning him for help would be considered bad while doing things like summoning the jolliest sunlight warrior this side of the rainbow would be considered good.

Just throwing out ideas. I've read the text dumps, looked at the art work end event pics (I think the painted girls are just the demons in anor londo and the devs decided that sex sells...cause it does...so they painted some women), tried some old school tricks (named toon "reah" instead of "furtive pigmy". Zelda taught us all) and I'm trying to think like FROM. Maybe some demon's souls logic would help here.

    also gonna toss out ideas.

1.) Has anyone ever tried attacking artorias' grave with either of his greatswords? i tried today but didnt meet the wielding requirements due to my build. didn't do anything. just curious.

2.) has anyone tried using the ring of fog in a boss fight? i personally haven't. just another question.

3.) Has anyone ever home boned when Sif is limping? again, curious.

    Re: Havel...my brother
I'm near positive this is a troll. Havel's ring is very popular to wear so I assume someone has don't this before. Also I did a dig through the dump (lol) for "brother" and found nothing.

So the only explanations are 1) trollollol 2) audio was added and cut or added without text accompaniment

    Re: Sif
For myself Home Boning worked like an item version of Homeward or dying w/sac ring on. I assume that if you do this and the game let's you (occasionally usable items are grayed out/unselectable) that it would restart the fight.

However...Sif IS a dog...maybe dropping a "bone" item on the grave while he limps would befriend him? Or casting something like the "Now you're my homie" spell followed by an ally heal spell.

Also, I mainly play offline (long story) so I don't have the ability to rank up in the forest coven, which means I'm unable to verify if Fat Cat mentions Sif in any gameplay way. It was mentioned that he tells you about Sif and how much he hates him and asks you to kill him. Those lines, or any mention of Sif or Wolf are not in the TextDump. Which means if this is real then there's more dialog than has been found in the dump which opens up a whole slew of possibilities.

Something just doesn't feel right about attacking mobs who don't initiate the battle. Like Priscilla. Yeah, I want her tail dagger and the LifeSythe would be cool but she pleads with you to leave and there's no real reason, aside from greed, to kill her. Maybe you can convince her to move back into the real world and she becomes a Merchant who sells you rainbow wishes and butterfly dreams... Ok, that last part was a stretch but still, it doesn't feel right to kill her. Maybe she's the one the pendant works on...

    Re:Game play sins
There is merit to this idea. I've been wondering what FS did I'm other games but I've been to busy w/work and researching other leads that I haven't had the ability to track down this info.

Anson, would you be willing to research this? See what ways From Software has hidden other secrets in their games.

Also, to all those who are secret hunting. Please, if you have Cell Phones and can snap pics with it, try to snap a pic of some of these things you're coming across.

A gameplay pic is worth 10000hrs of game testing.

Question: Someone tried to "satiate" the Lordvessel with only the Soul of The Bed of Chaos?

Soul of The Bed of Chaos: The Witch of Izalith attempted to duplicate the First Flame from a soul, but instead
created a distorted being of chaos and fire. Its power formed a bed of life which would become the source of all demons, and IS MORE THAN ENOUGH TO SATIATE THE LORDVESSEL.

Soul of Gravelord Nito: The power of his soul is so great the it satiates the Lordvessel, despite the fact that much of its energy has already been offered to death.

Soul of The Four Kings: A fragment of a Lord Soul discovered at the dawn of the Age of Fire. Lord Gwyn recognized the foresight of these four great leaders of New Londo, and granted them their ranks and the fragments of a great soul. Although this is not a full Lord Soul, it can still satiate the Lordvessel.

Soul of Seath the Scaleless: A fragment of a Lord Soul discovered
at the dawn of the Age of Fire. Seath allied with Lord Gwyn and turned upon the dragons, and for this he was awarded Dukedom, embraced by the royalty, and given a fragment of a great soul. Although just a
piece, it will still satiate the Lordvessel.

In my first gameplay I killed: 1º) Nito, 2º) Four Kings, 3º) Seath, 4º) Bed of Chaos. Maybe I would try to change the order and go to the Lordvessel just when I get Bed's soul without killing the other bosses.

I think it just states that soul of BoC is slightly more stronger than others. I don't think anything unusual happens when you give the soul to the lordvessel first. And it is highly likely that some people have already tried it, even if they didn't know about the strength of the soul.
I always kill the Bed of Chaos just before Gywn though. Going through Lozt Izalith is not the nicest thing.

I believe the "solution" for the pendant was: Give 99 sunlight tokens to the sunbros. Kill Solaire in Izalith. Go back to the statue and Solaire's summon sign (or something like that) will be there... or he'll just pop out of the ground randomly. He than asks for a pendant and this big epic text just starts.

Hello, I added the Artoria's ring "trade" as speculation to the item wiki. Although this is still unconfirmed, I figured it increases the chance people try it out (both the trade itself but also finding a hidden path in Darkroot) and it might get confirmed eventually...

I think you are incorrect. I read the thread pretty carefully, and the report is on p59, only 14 pages back ("only" considering the length of this thread winking ). Can't recall it being debunked in these 14 pages.
In any case, it's hard to debunk completely, 'cos even the original reporter could not consistently reproduce it. Hence I feel further investigations are warranted (perhaps not even Artoria's gear is needed).
It's a Wiki, anyone can edit it if they like (I won't get pissed), but it's clearly marked as speculation and unconfirmed, for what it's worth.

Maybe it is already known, but discovered a place to jump up on the green "wall" surrounding the Artoria graveyard (Sif area), I added a description to the Bugs and Glitches page. I tried to continue around to the left, but eventually fell through the world and died.

The area seems to have more places where the geography is kinda strange and you can get some bit up the wall (though not onto it), for example close to the waterfall on the left (as you come in). I went and got more prism stones to see if I can mark up some invisible ledges...

Incidentally Whybob1234 described something similar earlier in the thread (page 67 or around there), but it was never followed up. And his description seems to be the other waterfall.

In blighttown I tossed it over the side and it stuck. Thought I could follow. Not so much. The stones tend to stick where they're tossed so if they hit a angled ledge it'll say coast is clear when it'll really kill you.

Ok, so I'm thinking that maybe there's a hint or clue or something some string that we can follow.

I turn to the Game Booklet.

Please, call me a blind noob idiot if everyone and their grandmother already knew this but at the top of page 4 it says; "The world you are thrust into is ruled by demons. As you quest to reach your soul..." I thought that maybe whom ever typed that thought it was an actual sequel to Demon's Soul but on the next page, "You are thrust into a world of darkness, a world of demons. It's a place where humans with the Dark Ring are sent to succumb and transform into the living dead. You are soulless at the beginning of the adventure, and in order to regain your soul, you must emerge from the abyss to reach the land of the living."

...Wait, wut? We're on a quest to get our soul back and to reach the land of the living? Since when? Where was that in the "ring the bells" guideline?

Is this the elusive trail we should be following? Or did the person in charge of putting filler in the booklet mess up and I've cracked?

Anyway, I was passing through the area again on my way to The Bed of Chaos and figured I'd give the door a whack with my dragon greatsword, just for old time's sake. Anyway, as I approached the door, some strange text, like the one that announces invasions or summoning, flashed on my screen. It said "disasters are gone after the defeat of the gravelord". I'm on NG+, I killed Seath first, then cleared the way to Lost Izalith, all the way up to the boss, but chickened out before passing through the gate. I then went and defeated the four kings and was on my way back to Lost Izalith when it happened. I've fed Seath's soul to the lordvessel, but not the 4 kings. So I'm off to kill Nito to see what happens. Wish me luck, it's the Tomb of the Giants so I could be a while.

oh and if anyone near SL128 wants to drop a summon sign at the first bonfire in ToG, that would be fantastic. Those damned dogs keep thrashing me.

Oh, also forgot to mention that I have the pendant, but I got it off Reah's corpse after petrus killed her in the church. I didn't buy any miracles off her. I saved her in ToG, then the next time I saw her she was dead. I'm Sunbro +1 and I killed Solaire in Lost Izalith.

@kynido, "disasters are gone" means your world was infected by a gravelord servant, and the gravelord servant has been killed in another world.

@cheader, reaching the land of the living would be cool! But i think its a long shot...

@r0bin86 Thanks so much. I thought it might be something like that afterwards. Shame, I really thought I was onto something. I've tried everything to get that damned door open, but no luck. Someone put a message down in front of it saying "despair ahead". I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Just a stupid though, but has anyone ever fully explored the lower lava filled part of Lost Izalith. I'm too chicken too cause those half dragon things are just everywhere and I learnt my lesson after trying to take on one of them. I just wonder if anyone's ever killed the lot of them and explored every inch. Maybe there's a lever or something down there that opens the door, like the hidden crank in the bonewheel filled area in the Painted World. It just seems strange that there's so many of those half-dragons. It's like they're trying to keep us from exploring the place.

Gheghe, im too chicken there too, but i read there is a way to let those half dragons kill eachother. By shooting arrow from a ledge, they will try to attack you, but they will jump on and kill eachother. I havent nearly explored everything there yet, but i will in this run.

it just seems strange, it's the only place I really feel like From is trying to keep you from straying off the beaten track. I mean, not only is there lava everywhere, but a horde of half dragons everywhere you look that only aggro when you stray from the path? It just feels like unnecessary overkill, unless they're trying to hide something. I might give it a shot after I beat the Bed of Chaos.

oh and before i forget - someone, i think it was glyphblade, mentioned a while back that on one of his NG+(x)s, the chest behind Frampt was closed but empty. On my very first game, very first character, that chest was closed and empty, too. I remember thinking it strange, and even more strange when for every other new character I started, the chest was open. A bug in the scripting maybe?

I explored most of the first area of the lava lake in Izalith, but not the area around the hidden bonfire right before you get to the solid ground area. One side appeared to be completely blocked off by a root, and the other side appears to lead under a bridge-walkway like the one the titanite Demon is on, assuming you can actually travel that far into the lava lake that is. I haven't played DS in quite a while though, (been busy with Skyward Sword and Saint's Row The Third), but I still check up on this particular thread often. Keep up the good work people.

Wow! Can't believe this thread is still going. My ps3 died a few weeks back so I'm out of the hunt, I have been playing final fantasy 6 on my snes for the past week though. Guess what, Terra, the mysterious girl starts out with a pendant that seems to be of no use. After a little research into the history of the pendant it appears that pendants were generally used in a story about an orphan in order to show that they have parents somewhere and as a relegious protector.

This I'm afraid looks to be a call back to previous games and medievil stories where the pendant is used as a symbol of an untold past more than an actual object that has an effect. I may be wrong but this is all it is I fear.

    Good luck guys.

Hey guys here's a thought, the description for the chaso fire spells says that they melt rock, so has anyone tried hitting that cracked wall in the centi demons room with any of those spells? See if the wall melts or something.

I'm not sure if this will work but it's a common secret in some video games. Playing the last boss with only the pendant in your inventory.

@brosuke, yes, it was maxed out glove, although my intelligence is very low. Maybe someone with very high intelligence should try it too! Maybe you?

@sinraw, i am almost at final boss and would like to try your idea, but does that mean one can't carry any weapons too? That would make it very hard...

that is actually path where 6 slimes fall down. simply look trough fenced windows and you can see that area below you is the area with giant rat.

Trying things that sound crazy is using your head when it comes to video games because ANYTHING can happen. Glyph seems to believe anythings worth trying and I wholeheartedly agree.

    @SeishinKizuna

When you have exhausted all of the possible it only leaves the impossible.

If you have any ideas, which haven't already been done, then please share them. If something happened in you're play through that seems out of place, let us know. If there's a rumor you've read online that seems like there might be some validness to then speak up.

Its easier to pick apart than pull together but we're all (for the most part) heading in the same direction. So leave off of the trolling.

Now, back to the topic at hand, there are some gaming companied that place importance on dates. In a lil over a week we are having a Friday the 13th. Didn't From do something special with Demon's Soul on special dates?

People say its oscar that gives you the key in the beginning. When you first meet him he's locked in a room which takes a boulder to open. I think Oscar was locked up just like we were. There's no way that, even if he did fall into the room, a fall from that distance would have killed him.

He wears the Elite Knight set and the helm is the same that we see on Arty Boy from the art on the front of the game cover (left handed btw).

I think that Arturis is around somewhere in the game. If so then he could be the one in the cleaned up text dump they tag as "???".

I was wondering about Sir Onion and his daughter. Her quest is to find him and he doesn't move until the gate is up. Is it possible to free her from her Amber Golem before the second bell and to them direct her to the gate where he's at?
