Negative Effect of Humanity
One thing that I havent figured out about Dark Souls is humanity. When you are gathering information about humanity you learn that having to much is a bad thing. So how come you are able to stockpile 99 of it without suffering any type of ill effects

Well the lore about the Firekeeper in AL for one thing. Didn't she get disfigured by having too much? Or being too close to too much? Or some such thing?

Re: Negative Effect of Humanity
The fire keeper in Anor Londo had to much Humanity. After you beat gwedolyn and pick up her armor set read the description. And also in the dlc they talk about Manus and his humanity goes crazy

Re: Negative Effect of Humanity
I'd have to think since she was a Fire Keeper she had the ability to hold more than 99 humanity. Probably the equivalent of 999. The random Undead we meet on our journey have around 7-9 at the most? with most of them holding 1-4. The Chosen Undead can hold 99, so I don't think we'd have to worry about any side effects from having too much. I mean our stats only go up with the more humanity we have, right?

When you have 99 humanity, you might get the fear of losing it all

I might be wrong here but the chaos witch who protects the bonfire with the egg on his back. Doesnt she go blind and deaf due to having to much humanity.

I don't think so. I think all of Quelaan's issues were caused by contact with the flame of chaos. She's also not def. I don't want to ruin anything for you if you haven't discovered this on your own, but she's actually trying to speak to you. You just don't understand her language. Might be an item to help with that..

Re: Negative Effect of Humanity
Well im about to due some research on the subject. Because I assumed that having to much humanity was a negative thing. I think in the Dlc Hawkeye Gough explains that when manus was searching for his pendant his Humanity went wild thats what caused the spread of the abyss

I believe that queelag's sister became a spider-woman due to her exposure to the flame of chaos, but she is paralyzed and blind because she swallowed blight puss to save the egg carrier guy found in her chamber.

Re: Negative Effect of Humanity
Doesn't loot description also say that bonfire keepers's souls are gnawed at by infinite humanity? I think they left 99 in the rear-view a long time ago!
The only downside to going up to 99, as far as the chosen undead is concerned, is this:

Re: Negative Effect of Humanity
The way I always saw it is as the Firekeepers themselves are linked to their bonfires and in turn the enormous amount of humanity that the flames contain/consume to remain lit. They keep their bonfire lit with their own life and thus must contain the insane amount of humanity the flames require. Whether they are first engrossed by humanity then linked to the flame or the flame itself fills them with it is unknown however it's likely the second.

Nah, it's actually not very hard to hold onto humanity once you start accruing it.
Protip: hoard those Rings of Sacrifice! (When you need to retrieve a bloodstain, put one on. If you die before retrieving your stain, it'll still be there. With enough rings, you'll never lose your humanity.)

Well, now we know what happened to the Crestfallen Warrior. Probably lost 99 Humanity and lost his will to continue the game afterwards.Uparkaam wrote:When you have 99 humanity, you might get the fear of losing it all
I've become crestfallen when losing a lot of Humanity in the past as well. Can't blame the guy.

That's just speculation. The description doesn't say it happened because of she having too much humanity.

It's not speculation. It says so in the item description of her Fire Keeper Soul:ChizFreak wrote:PlasticandRage wrote:Well the lore about the Firekeeper in AL for one thing. Didn't she get disfigured by having too much? Or being too close to too much? Or some such thing?

Soul of the Darkmoon Knightess,
Fire Keeper of Anor Londo.
A Fire Keeper's soul is a draw for humanity,
and held within their bosoms, below just a
thin layer of skin, are swarms of humanity
that writhe and squirm. Her brass armor
serves to disguise this ghastly form.

Re: Negative Effect of Humanity
if you really think about it you only need one humanity to actually back into human form. I know that the chaos weapons scale with humanity but I just always thought that having to much was bad for you

Your general defenses scale with it also, and I could be wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure they continue to all the way to 99. So having more humanity is actually beneficial because it allows you to absorb more damage before dying.

Re: Negative Effect of Humanity
Well I think you're right that the lore of the game hints that there could be repercussions, but as far as gameplay goes the more you have the better. Although I rarely travel with more than 10 just because that maxes out all the other benefits you gain from it and isn't so much that I'd have an aneurysm if I lost it.

Re: Negative Effect of Humanity
I always travel with around 5. Because it feels like everytime I have a high degree of humanity something always happens and I loose out. And nothing hurts more than having 30 humanity and fight the ghost. die and go back to get them and die again
