Favorite Shields.

I've read many post about favorite weapons, but none about favorite shields. What are your favorite shields? It can be based on def, looks, or something else.

My favorite is the Grass Crest Shield, because of the stamina regen.

However, I think the Sunlight Shield is interesting, because I think it looks bigger then it should. I actually thought it shield bashed untill I tried to shield bash with it.

Yep, I use the Grass Crest too and I quite like the Effigy Shield too. I find Great Shields too cumbersome for my style of play, although Havel's is handy against some bosses.

I love the Tower Kite Shield. It's just so awesome. I use it in ALL MY BUILDS. That thing rocks, and at +14 it has 71 stability, for just 3 weight.

I'm going to have to say Havel's. It's not a good a choice for most builds, but if you have one that suits it then it's a complete game changer. Both in PvE and PvP. It makes most PvE a joke if you use it properly, and having one in PvP forces your opponent to change tactics, or possibly even equipment, just to fight you.

I just used the word complete like 6 times in 5 sentences. That has to be some kind of record.

I never used Effigy shield, only reason to use it would be against Lighting weapon wearers, but it's really worth it? I mean the low stability, not having 100% phys reduction, it would be better to block with a standard shield, at least you would lose less stamina.

^ I don't really like it either. I think it looks kinda silly too, the way it comes to such a radical point.

For a long time, I used the Spider Shield, mainly for the toxin resist in Blighttown. I've recently switched to 2Hing a scythe, so now I stick with Grass Crest for the regen. The only greatshield I've used was the Eagle Shield, as it has fairly high lighting resist, and made bat Demons/S&O that bit easier!

well youre not supposed to tank more than one hit with small shields, i use it mainly to set up parries when i was going against those damn vit/elemeantal builds, i always make it fire+10.

Once I kept invading someone who used nothing but Great Combustion against me. After a few deaths I finaly switched to that shield. Thats when she started using her sword.

I don't use shields for shielding.

So I use Grass Crest because:
-Can parry with it
-It's light
-Stamina boost

Personally I can't take small shields seriously the way the player holds them up daintily before their face.

My absolute favorite for mid size builds is the Iron round shield, decent stats a unique look and heavy reflection make it very attractive to me. Also it seems rarely used in pvp due to is high weight and low elemental resists so it's a must on a build you want to stick out.

That being said any toon I take over 30 str has a tower shield permanently fused to their left hand.
ALL MUST BOW TO THE CRYSTAL TOWER SHIELD! Your physical attacks are meaningless to me!

Dark Hand.

I want to be buried with my Greatshield of Artorias.
-I don't pvp, so not being able to parry doesn't mean much to me.
-It blocks bleed and poison effects from hitting you when blocked
-has incredible stability
-and looks great when you get light to reflect off of it (although, lots of Dark Souls shields look really great in good lighting).
After I got my Artorias Greatshield, on my first playthrough, it changed everything for me. You can tank (just using the shield; you don't even need armor) pretty much anything in the game with it. And when I need to specifically block strong elemental attacks I just switch over to Havel's Greatshield since it has such incredible elemental protection mixed with stability.

I voted for the third option, but I have nothing against shields. I prefer to go shieldless or use the Dark Hand.

The Crest Shield is my fave, it looks really nice with what I've got going lol.

Personally I used the bloodshield until i got my black knight shield to +5, now i just use that unless I need a specialized one. I never really used greatshields because i hate the fat roll.

Crest shield and spider shield. , 2 my favs. The crest being used More now with the spreading of dark majik.

I only use a shield if I absolutely have to. Other than that I just stick the grass crest shield on my back just 2h my weapons.

Same here, I like being able to attack with an offhand weapon. But when I do use a shield, I mostly use it to parry or do setup parries. I guess the shields I use most often are the black knight shield (gc spam? NOPE) and the grass crest shield. The only greatshield I ever use is havel's but that's only because I need protection when I fatroll!

I use The Crest Sheild, Dragon Crest, Grass crest, and Effigy. I quickly swap them out based on the character I'm fighting.

I prefer to dodge though. You can't get hurt by what can not hit you. Umbasa!

The spider shield, crest shield, silver knight shield and the black knight shield are the only shields I need for the entire game. I no longer use the eagle shield since it's nerf and only use the heater shield if weight is going to slow my roll speed. I don't understand why some of you choose to use the effigy shield. It has low stability, requires 18 faith and you take more damage from physical damage than you would do from the lighting damage using the silver knight shield. It looks cool but it has about as much use as the gargoyle shield.

The balder shield and the black/silver knight shield are my favourites.
They look good, have high stability and I can parry with them.

Not being able to parry makes both pvp and pve boring, which is sad because Artorias' shield is so pretty...

I got to say though; equipping a great shield and going against a boss is rather funny.I like how nothing can break my block, I'll just do a fancy backflip with my greatshield up.

Oh, and the bloodshield deserves an honourable mention. It looks good and I won't say no to some extra bleed resistance when I'm using my lifehunt scythe
