Resistance diminishing returns and caps

I'm playing with the Resistance stat in mugenmonkey.

-Resistance diminishing returns begin after 20 Res. You get 3~4 fire defense points per Res stat below 20 Res. After 20 Res, 2~3 fire defense points per stat. Physical defense remains constant at 2 defense points per Res stat.

-Where fromsoftware screw things up: NO matter the number of Resistance, SEVERE diminishing returns begin at 120 overall defense. After this point, Resistance only grants 1 fire defense and physical defense, the same as increasing any other stat.

-Humanity also grants a free defense boost, capping at 170 overall defense. (on an SL 120, defense increase stops at ~70 humanity)

-On an SL +700, overall defense gets as high as 200.

-If the defense cap was higher, say 200 overall defense, and if other stats didn't increase overall defense, then Resistance would be a useful stat, especially for pure stat builds and tanks.

Its a pve stat, and its a decent pve stat. Rynn tested it, check the wiki.

Can't find her post Forum. It's not even good for PvE because other stats still increase overall defense after 120 at about the same rate as Resistance. The only good thing it has is that it increases poison resistance, but for that there's always moss.

i was actually planning on making a pvp build upgrading resistance

Plan your build on mugenmonkey.com and increase the primary stats first, then slowly increase resistance. You'll see it doesn't give you enough points in defense worth of a stat spend.

they should of made it add resistances and defenses aside from the overall gains and suffer from its own diminishing returns.

I personally think raising resistance should affect poise...my 2 cents.

Not if you made 1 point in resistance = one poise point.

Not as exaggerated, but why not? I never made an SL +200 because it doesn't make sense to spent all those points if you can still be OHKO by an SL 10 elemental rapier build. If I want to level up to such high level why not grant me superior defense? Also, by the SL ranges rule, low SLs aren't supposed to be fighting SL 700s, and viceversa.

Wyrm, rynn did testing and it showed resistance in Pve gives a static debuff to damage and a multiplier that pretty much stops you from getting one-shotted. it's pretty much the stat you get up to 40 if you wanna go for the ng infinity challenge

Thanks for that serious. I really didn't felt that effect on my first character though, he had 20 Res. LOL

haha, considering from 20 res you'd only lose 20 less hp per hit it wouldn't be very obvious, though resisting one shots from major attacks should be noticable..

To be honest, i'm not sure whether it's resistance that causes the anti one-shot effect or whether that's just a feature built into the game, as SL1 guys seem to say despite their low health they rarely get one shotted by anything.

I made a PvP build on mugenmonkey comparing to WyrmHero's +2500 HP tank.
Basically what I did was, instead of upgrading vit, I upgraded res.
I don't know if my way of thoughts is right, but here's what I did, since those less damage taken would only work for PvE

Yeah, notice how resistance won't increase the overall defense past 170. :S

I think that after 40 almost every stat will take more upgrades to see a difference...

With 0 humanity, the 50 Res build has ~30 more fire defense and ~20 more physical defense than the 90 Vit build. Still not worth it in my opinion. (Would love +100 overall defense difference).

I may try making both builds and comparing them pvping to see how it'd work.
The problem is that I'd take forever since I can't play Dark Souls that often :c

res is a pve stat, does almost nothing in pvp
