Can anyone confirm that Siegmeyer survives given that his health is above 50% after the fight in Lost Izalith?

On my first character, he didn't take a single hit, yet still wound up dead at Ash Lake. Now, some things I've read lead me to believe the "good ending" and possibility of grabbing a slab and the ring is just a hoax.

You need to have him survive with over 50% and also save his daughter and complete her storyline.

And you can't kill all the chaos eaters before he goes to fight them, or else he disappears to you.

Then he will show up dead, but his daughter will be there and she will give you the goods.

I think the good ending where he lives is a lie. If he gives you the ring, he dies and you don't get the slab. If you do the whole questline perfectly, he dies and his daughter gives you the slab.
