im a noob and need a bit of advice Empty im a noob and need a bit of advice

    hello,

just need a quick tip. I've been playing DkS for a liitle while off and on but now i want to get really into it. I've have been putting it off for a couple weeks cause i have this complex of always needing to play a varity of games and DkS seems like the type of game that resembles a wife versus some random chick you meet at a bar, meaning you have to be dedicated to it and spend a lot of time for the whole relationship to work.

Anyway, my level is in the 30s, i'm a pyro and just beat that big wolf with a sword in his mouth. I have no real sense of where all the best gear is or how to build a good chractor.

Thus, my question is, should i just try and beat one play through on my own without cheating myself by getting all the tips from the wiki site? I usually never go on sites for guides cause i like the sense of discovering things on my own. However, im getting butt ramed when i try to invade someone or if someone invades me and i just feel like a little school girl in a bloody bare knuckle fight club. So i guess i just want my cake and eat too. Meaning i want to have that sense of reward plus surprise but at the same time i want to become a PvP god which i just cant seem to reconcile at my current pace. Also, at times i feel like a chicken with m y head cut off cause some areas are just too hard to pass cause my current weapons will not affect the enemy. Then i get this crap like the ring of convent that i can go into some realm that i have no idea how it works. Its like this game demands i resort to spoilers cause it explains nothing.

Should i treat this game as i would an MMO and just use guides on character builds ect cause if i dont it may be a very long time before i can make any significant progress? thx in advance

    WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!

If you dont use guides the game is going to be so much harder but there'll be an even greater sense of accomplishment. Id say hold off on the guides as long as possible. I used guides for bits and they felt like lesser victories compared to the rest of the game. If you need help post here on the forum but avoid the wiki and any other guides.

Do it yourself. The wiki would ruin the fun of discovery and lessen the achievement that is finishing dark souls.

after you've beaten it once or twice, then look things up.

A little flexability shouldn't hurt, the bulk of the surprises are PvE related, so I don't see much harm in looking at the weapons and armor. I can't remember the website and I'm going to bed after this, but there is a really good character builder that covers practically everything and you can tinker with it to decide how you want your character to end up. I wish you the best of luck in your adventures in Lordran.

yeah thats what i figured. How long have you guys been playing this game? Is this game the type of game i can spend 6 months to a 1 yr playing and still have fun playing. The only time i've ever been that hooked on games was when played WoW/LoTRo and i started kins/guilds in both with 400 plus members. Thus i played it every day like it was a job. What got to be a head ach was being the leader cause it wasn't like playing a game but logging on to be a boss. Anyway, if i dedicated that much time into this game will my time that is invested have a good return in a motnhs of playing. Otherwords will i still be playing it or does this game ever become superfiscal. Now i know you can't predicte the future but i have that attribute in me that i can be addicated to games for a long time if its worth it. I just need to turn that swicth on in my head then Dark Souls could own my soul in a matter of speaking. (dont take that seriously Lord, dont want to end up in hell lol)

sounds cool, the only thing i'm worried about is getting side tracked. Theres one game that i might be torn on between this one and it might be dragon's dogma. It's hard for me to be dedicated to two hardcore game at the same time, hopefully dragon's dogma flops and ends up to be superficsal so i don't have to get that game too and end up sucking at both lol. That always happens to me, i get halfway through one game, a new game comes out never finsh, rinse and repeat. Dark Souls seems like a game that is very rare for appealing to hardcore gamers and is thee best hardcore RPG this gen so i don't want to put it on the back burner any longer and then get all into it and the servers shut down like on Demon souls lol

Best advice anyone can give is upgrade your weapons more than your soul level stats. No matter what level you are, using weapons in the condition you find them is going to make the game so much harder.
Also, do not to feed your titanite chunks to frampt! They cannot be bought from merchants...

^this. E.g. levelling up str may give you 1 or 2 AR but upgrading your wep can give you 9-12 AR. Upgrades are much better.
Check out the co-op guide for the recommended level at each boss. Stay within these so you can easily find people to help you co-op. I went through multiple playthroughs before I went to this site, but I still found it helpful to look at some walkthroughs on youtube...... For me, It didn't take much of the discovery away from the game, because now that I knew where to go in the area, I could spend time searching for the items and still know what I am meant to accomplish in that area. Also for boss fights, it doesn't hurt to look up tactics for them, unless your that kind of person who likes to figure it out on your own. Personally, if it wasn't for youtube, I probably would have never figured out where to go in the Catacombs.....lol

My advice would be to look at the wiki when you are truly stuck. I played demons blind for the most part. I only looked up certain boss fights (flame lurker). It took me what seemed like forever to finish the game and I felt beat down, so much so I never went back. I got ds on release day and due to the fact I have limited time to play I used guides and you tube. The game was still great fun but I didn't have that feeling of accomplishment that I got from demons. In short I wish I had played ds the same as I played demons.

Stick with dark souls cause youll need dragons dogma for when this wife pisses you off and she will ...she.. will.

I would say that I held off on the Wiki till I got past Orinstin and Smough which I personally felt was a good point then to look for some help because after that some backtracking is required and you need to know where to go.

and for a first playthrough it doesnt hurt to go elemental with your weapons since most first timers stats are all over the place.

LOL my first playthrough I got stuck in the catacombs for like 4hours of actual play time and didnt know how to get out. I didnt have the things required for that area.

@ Trini, i can relate with you when you say that you play a game and when a new game comes out you go play that one and never finish any game at all. I used to do that all the time, till i got Dks, now like 90% off my game time goes into Dks and the other 10% goes to playing mw3 splitscreen when my friends are over at my house (or when im way to stoned to play dks xD).
And like you im also waiting for Dogma but im scared that when i buy that game im gonna play like 2 hours and miss my Dks fix and never play it again happy.

I just looked up Dragon's Dogma... I have a feeling that it isn't going to suck. That looks incredibly cool with some very fluid, realistic movements. That's what I really enjoy about Dark Souls so much. If you're carrying a heavy sword like the Zweihander, your character's moveset shows it very clearly.

This might sound really dumb of me, but I also got lost in Anor Londo. I didn't even realize you had to walk up the beam to get to the room where you walk across the small beams. I looked on youtube where to go and I felt like the biggest retard on the planet....lol!
