Kudos to Joe and PAR, you're just about the only people I've ever seen discuss that issue without resorting to BS and name-calling (lookin' at you, governments of the world).

Yay, let's start getting to the cliche controversial issues such as euthanasia, the death penalty, and of course, abortion!
On another note about debates and opinions, if any of you guys are in the EU, what do you think of the free movement rule that prevents countries from limiting the amount of immigrants entering the country?

I personally think it is ridiculous - the majority of immigrants move to England just for the fact that they get free housing and money from benefits if they live here... It basically wastes our resources... I personally believe we should leave the EU and change the immigration rules to similar ones that Australia uses... Because then people who actually have skills can move into the country and not just be unemployed people using our resources, that is my personal opinion.

I think the issue is that debate in that sense is about winning, whereas the debate between Joe and PAR was about understanding each other's positions.

lol if you change to Aussie rules you'll probably end up having the same problem we have. Immigrants coming by boat illegally. Of course your country may have the balls to send them back.

Re: The "let it out" thread.
This is out of curiosity, it doesn't bother me, but I have a question. I've noticed that I tend to put people off, both here (though less recently) and IRL, by being frank. That is to say, I am exactly as I present myself, rather than having separate inner and/or outer identities depending on who I'm dealing with.
The reason being, I'd much rather be disliked for who I am than liked for who I'm not, or a superficial aspect thats only applicable if I want it to be.
Why does this cause problems?
I'm never rude unless I'm disrespected first. I put effort into being reasonable, seeing others point of view, and accepting both the good and bad (subjevtive terms of course) in anyone as part of the person, rather than letting the differences upset me.

Well I have no problem with you, and try to follow a similar attitude if I can. It really is just how society works I'm afraid. The people who show themselves, talk the truth, and remain unjudgemental are the ones who are looked down upon. Many people I know have changed so much over the years, in order to become the generalised, aesthetic based youth I very much see today.
It's just a question of finding people who will like you for who you are, whether they are close to you personality-wise or just enjoy being around you. I know that's a pretty common answer, but nothing will ever work better, and I don't want to ever tell anyone to change for others if there's nothing wrong with them.

Forum there are times when I love you and times when I dislike you. Your frankness is both refreshing in most situations but there are often times you make assumptions or speak a little too harshly IMO.

Re: The "let it out" thread.
Everyone makes assumptions.
Harshness is rarely intentional. Maybe that you can't hear my tone makes it "sound" that way. Otherwise, I'm simply being matter of fact. It might not be pleasant but I'm not trying to be unpleasant either. Especally in response to a question, I try to be straightforward so others are clear on what I ment.

As they say, to assume makes an *** of you and me.
But that doesn't really matter, because it is natural for human beings to assume from past experiences and from stereotypes. We just learn and move on.

Re: The "let it out" thread.
In America, the economy is **** because of Wall Street's overspeculation, tax breaks for the wealthy, and poor banking practices though here you'll hear much of the same "they took our jobs, those damned foreigners" chorus that is heard pretty much everywhere else and had been chanted for as long as man has instituted political borders arbitrarily or via the spoils of war. Foreigners usually get a bad rap because it's easy to blame the "outsiders" although I'd wager no one is interested in buying an $8.00 tomato; but that aspect is always forgotten because when times are tough those who talk with an accent are usually the first to get singled out.
And though the overwhelming majority of immigrants, both legal and illegal, are good people although it's always the bad apples who make the news for obvious reasons, you know that old "lead with the gun" mantra of news reporting but the fact of the matter is that the overwhelming majority of immigrants are hard-working, everyday people just trying to improve their own lives and the lives of their families, all the while enriching the country socially and culturally.

I agree. Sure, some immigrants come over to leach off the welfare system, but there's much more people who were born here who are doing that as well. Immigrants get an unfair rep.

Re: The "let it out" thread.
Forum, I always imagine you with a very monotone voice, so I never think you're being, well, anything but what you're saying haha! You don't put any emotion into your text. Well, a bit here and there, but we're all human. But I feel like we're fairly similar in the way we want to conduct ourselves when it comes to our own opinion (I actually hate it when people hate me, so I'll either try to change, or leave. I've been leaving more and more because I simply can't change anymore. I'm going into adulthood, ya know?), in that we want to put out our opinion in order to let others what it is, and even if they prove us otherwise or if they don't, it's a win-win situation. If they prove us otherwise, we learn something! Which is awesome. If they don't, we know our point of view is more likely to be true.
That's the vibes I got from you. True? Untrue? Let me know, so I can be corrected or my point will be proven true. XD
