If you're not familiar with the series, it won't be impressive because you don't know what it is

What you can take from it is that it was "actiony" as opposed to "cutesy" as a very, very small taste of the juxtaposition in tone Madoka Magica provides compared to other Magical Girl anime.

And it's obvious you haven't heard much about Fate/zero then, so you don't have to worry about it not living up to the hype.

Yes, that's the guy.  He may not have officially reviewed it (yet), but he talks up Fate/Zero quite a lot.  He especially praises the animation, saying it's one of the best examples of 2D mixed with CGI as well as how visceral it gets with it's action.

My previous quote was in response the MM movie opening, not the F/Z clip

Unless this comment was directed as Serious, in which case I don't think he's going to be interested in watching F/Z since he said he's more into contemplative and reflective thought series right now rather than actiony stuff.

If reflective and contemplative stuff is your style, then definitely check this one out.

One of the most serious anime I've ever seen.

Actually, Fate/Zero isn't as action based as it appears, it involves a lot of complex planning and strategy on the characters and is near as thought provoking as madoka.
Oh and I was directing that one statement towards Serious, but everyone should give it a chance. It's brilliant, everything Gen Urobuchi touches has a magic to it. And I'm used to linking that action bit to people because a lot of the anime watchers I know seem addicted to action, so it's just the best way to recruit them.

On that note, I'd like to make a request. What are some good comedy shows out there? I've got alot of action, SoL, and mystery shows at the moment, but lately I've been feeling more like seeing something lighthearted that doesn't really take itself seriously.

Well...that's a bit of the wrong way to say it. It can take itself seriously, but the main draw has to be that it's funny. Subgenre doesn't matter.

Been trying to hunt down Azumanga Daioh for a while now actually. I prefer to download rather than stream when possible and that's proven unfruitful in finding a site with an easily accessible download (though I'll admit I haven't actually looked that hard).

I've recognize the name of Hidamari Sketch, but I've never heard anything about it. I'll look into it.

PS: An addendum could be something that isn't necessarily comedy, but takes itself so non-seriously that it's still good for a laugh just for how ridiculous it is. Think Highschool of the Dead.

Not that I don't think I'd never watch it, but I feel like I'd only watch it when I want to feel disturbed or upset.  And yes, I do like series that invoke those feelings, it's just not what I feel like doing right now.

That said though, the ending did feel kind of unresolved.

I have to retract my statement on this, because apparently I didn't see the full series. The last 3 episodes were released as OVAs and not included in the main series, so they weren't included in what I'd found. But I found them, and have a better feeling about the ending. Kinda off-putting in some ending developments, but the characters were established strongly enough that I was okay with said developments, even if I I'd have preferred it to turn out differently.

Still a well-done series.

There really needs to be a anime/manga section of this forum. I'd estimate at least 40% of us are part time otakus.

Maybe as a subforum to Off-Topic?  Would be interesting, and allow us to separate conversations about particular series or asking for recommendations or the like.

I think the problem would be that if it went through, it would open floodgates where people start wanting other subforums all to their own.  After all, if otakus get their own forums, why don't FPS, MMO, or Fighting gamers get their own forums in off-topic?  Plenty of stuff to talk about there that alot of people on the forums play.  Or a "Real World Conversations" where people can talk about things in their lives ala the "let it out" thread or the recently-closed Gender Issues Thread kind of stuff.

It'd be good to see that kind of stuff if you ask me, but it's alot more work for the mods and admins to try and manage, and if they don't go all the way it may come across to others as exclusionary ala the "why do those hobbies get forums but not these?" mentality I hinted at earlier.

It'd mostly be for organization purposes among those who like to discuss the media. Like I said, with a subforum we could discuss things by series, so we could have had a "Madoka Magica" thread for that recent conversation we just had without it dying off and getting buried with just a few posts, as well as feel more comfortable talking about things in-depth about a series without having to worry too much about spoilers as opposed to the kind of vague language we have to use here. I'd love to get in-depth with certain series, but with only a "general discussion" thread it's hard to get one of those conversations going and keep it going, but without a dedicated forum a series-specific thread would die off pretty quickly.

You see what we really fear is having a whole sub section for the bronies, the brony thread was made to appease them, but if they ever had their own subsection we fear they'd go for outright forum domination. We must not let that happen!

But yeah, having subsections for loads of different things when really if would just clutter up the main page is the reason I think.

There's not enough going on in Brony fandom right now to really deserve its own section  

Besides, I think the single thread we have right now is enough to support the Brony population we have here right now and lets us all talk about what we want to in the detail we want to

I was thinking more of a subtopic to off topic instead of just a couple threads. I understand how having a few dedicated off topic sections would quickly clutter the main page, especially when DkSII comes out.
