I think they'll keep a lot of gamers for the same reason that some major screw ups by Apple haven't lost them a whole lot of business.
The install base is tied to a marketplace. Apple really pioneered this model and it makes for a fantastic business strategy. I've had several co-workers ask me if they felt they should switch from Apple to an Android based device because they were getting a little jaded with their iPod/iPhone. I've even convinced a couple of Android supremacy but most it ends with this conversation:
"Have you bought anything on iTunes?"
"Yeah, pretty much all my music and a ton of apps."
"And they're not free apps?"
"Nope"
"Oh, well then....this might affect your decision but you might have to buy a lot of that again."
Switching consoles for many Xbox users might lead to them losing a lot of content in the long run or starting from scratch. Now, nevermind that they can just keep their 360 and still use said content, the mindset of most people is that they don't want a second device to keep old content. Everyone wants everything to be on their new device.
