Making my own type of magic.

Post by LunarFog on Wed May 15, 2013 1:32 am

Idle minds wander. Since I bid farewell to my copy of Dark Souls, I haven't been able to do anything but sit and contemplate and...dream.

So I decided to try and put together my own Magic system and special weapons.

Lunar Magic - Specializes in buffs/debuffs and invisible forces(similar to Iron Golem Axe special attack)

Moonlit weapons - a weapon in each weapon class with a special skill/trait.(example: Moonlit Dagger - Special skill: Physical buff to the dagger that increases AR by 40%, deceases Defense by 80% for the next 30 seconds)

Hell, while I'm at it I might as well come up with armor, rings, and other equipment(You never know if a Dark Souls 2 programmer is spying on these forums). I'll put it all together in a thread in acouple days

    TIPS/SUGGESTIONS/FEEDBACK???

I'll be lookin at this thread maybe. Could find something interesting I could use

Hmm, isn't moon magic closely related to illusions (which are somehow still real enough to hurt you)? Maybe you could do something with that. How about a seemingly useless weapon-hilt that turns into a random illusionary weapon when activated? That sounds fun to me silly

Great call Elifia...That trait slipped my mind entirely.

And sorry Pendant I'm going to have to pass on yours...mostly because I don't know how to incorporate a werewolf into the game.

Moonlight talisman. A cloth of pure moonlight, weighing nothing.

Blood talisman, a moonlight talisman made with the blood of a virgin on a full moon. Bears a curse due to the atrocity of its creation.

Moonlight talisman scales. Blood talisman doesn't, but has high Mag. Adj; however it takes away some health per cast.

    Set of Sacrifice?

    Helm of Sacrifice
"Bloody helm with a half moon on top, once used by a cult of moonlight worshippers.
The helm gives great power, but feeds on the wielder. Magic is more powerful, but life will be sucked out."

    40% Magic damage +
    4HP per second -

    Armor of Sacrifice
"Bright red armor with a full moon on the center, once used by a cult of moonlight worshippers.
The armor gives great power, but loses powers of normal armor. Increased stamina regeneration, health regeneration and souls gained. But the armor offers no protection."

Amount of stamina regen Grass shield gives +
    2HP per second +
    30% more souls +
    1 defense and 0 poise +

    Will continue later

    Moonlight Clothing.

Not that clothing you get from Domhall after killing Gwyndolin.
It could be transparent, and emit a light blue glow from around the sides.
It weighs a minimal amount. .5 in all.
There could be a hood, a top robe, a pair of gloves and a lower robe.

You must make a shotel and/or scythe representing the cresent moon.

Okay, I'm done yelling at you. silly

Seriously though, since the moon only comes out at night, maybe a weapon could inflict a "blinding" effect lowering their chance to hit?

I LOVE that blood talisman thing too.

I believe she's mentioned in the past that she let a friend borrow it but said friend still isn't done borrowing it.

Well, I was thinking, for lunar magic, the moon itself will be the "item." Let's say...if they DID incorporate a day-night system in Dark Souls II. The reason only the moon would work is that, sure the sun makes the moon visible, but the moon itself might carry its own energy that is radiated off when it has the sunshine on it, getting stronger the fuller it gets.

You must raise your weapon in the air in order to absorb the power of the moon into your weapons, this will take a little bit of time, longer than normal casts because the moonlight takes time to get into weapons. The fuller the moon, the stronger the buff, but at the same time, the casting time is longer. If there is only day, I think a small artificial moon would be good. You would hold it up as it floats just above your palm.

The energy would be slowly absorbed into the weapon, and the buff will activate.

For equipment...I was guessing that for weapons, there would be certain ones that would have some sort of shape as the phases of the moon. The crescent moon would probably be a scythe. The full moon as a type of completely circular ax, Etc. These weapons will most likely be weak on their own, but get a faster casting time, and stronger weapon buff than normal.

Armor is a little tricky. I was thinking that at a certain stage in the game, during a part of the moon cycle, at different phases, you could get different armor pieces. If you get all of them, you will get unlock a Lunar Spell that increases casting speed and power, but it can only be used when using that armor set. I was thinking that different pieces would have the different phases on them. Like crescents for gloves. Full moon on the chestplate, and a new moon on the helmet (In the top-back, like a plume in a way.)

Elder Scrolls lore has great magic, you should take some inspiration from there
