Forum Pirate wrote:Its up to the parents, not the stores, to moniter what games a child has access to. All the stores should do is refuse to sell mrated games to people under 18/17/16 (depending on the country) without a parent present.
The rating system needs work anyways. I'd let my 7 year old sister play halo, I wouldn't let my 15 year old brother play splatterhouse.
And there isn't much stores can do if the kid really wants the game, i'm sure he'll have some uncle that can buy it out for him.
My parents have told me that they will buy K18 games for me once i turn 16 (1 month left). Apparently they think i'm mature enough to be able to play such games. They don't really sell games like that to kids anymore though. When i was 14 i could buy a K16 game, but when i turned 15 i wasn't allowed to anymore (this is Gamestop).

Re: Random Off-Topic
The ratings are screwed up in and of itself, some PG-13/PEGI 12 games should really be PEGI 16, and some PEGI 18 games should be PEGI 16. It's up to the parents to know what's actually in that game before they let their kids play it. You wanna monitor what your kids play? Take an active role in their gaming lives, play the game yourself first, read reviews before you buy it. Don't buy something to set them in front of the tv so you can have time for yourself, then play coy when something you don't like happens.

Re: Random Off-Topic
I think you're all missing my point. Which was that these organizations, like the NRA, like to make a scapegoat of the gaming industry, where the industry itself, when it's actually enforced, doesn't really allow children under a certain age to play certain games. It's the parents who do. So it's my opinion that the more game stores enforce these ESRB requirements, the better it really is for the industry, because there's more of a defense that it's the parents fault what kids are exposed to.
On a side note, today's my first day not smoking. The lolly pops were such a good idea. They're helping so much. Gives me something to do with my hands and mouth, and by the time they're gone so is my craving.

I was playing GTA3 when I was 10. To be honest I don't really think games influence kids very much, if the parents haven't brought them up right and a kid does something, obviously they'll scapegoat something. Film ratings, tv, games etc. Anything to stop people say they failed to raise their children properly.

My post actually shows that I agree with you, the industry may be regulated but terribly so, and parental influence means a lot more than any ratings or content children are exposed to.PlasticandRage wrote:I think you're all missing my point. Congrats! I might kick the habit soon, lately I don't feel like I'm getting anything out of smoking and yet I still do it out of habit or maybe even addiction. Not to mention how well off I might be financially and health wise if I do.

Re: Random Off-Topic
I actually just had a really bad reaction to the patches. I almost went to the emergency room, but thankfully I thought to call my pharmacist first, and they said it sounds like I'm just not reacting well to a high dose of nicotine all at once like that. I felt like I was having a heart attack.
I pulled it off as soon as I started feeling weird. Starting to feel normal again now. I think I may just go with the e-cigarettes. At least then I can control the dosage

Ouch man :/ Can you see if you can't get a patch with a lower dose of nicotine prescribed or is that the lowest dose around? If your patches are over the counter, see if you can't find one with a lower dose, but I'd suggest going to your physician with that.

Re: Random Off-Topic
It was prescribed, and I evidently can't get a lower dose without a different prescription. I don't think I'm putting on another patch though. I think I'm going to try something else that's smaller controlled doses. I'm thinking either the e-cig, which I've been hearing better and better things about, or the lozenge.

Two random Dark Souls in life moments:
My daughter has two Hello Kitty toys. She says they're her "Hollow kitties"
Awesome
Yesterday I was monitoring a CPR course for work. One student's name was Kayleena. Before I saw the spelling I pictured Quelina and expected pyromancy at some point

I have not. I sat through maybe half of the first. I really couldn't stand it. If the second is worse, I don't think I'll even attempt it. To be fair though I'm not a Nick Cage fan.
