WARNING: RANT ABOUT KATANAS Empty WARNING: RANT ABOUT KATANAS

Post by EeAyEss Sun Jan 13, 2013 9:32 pm

You read the title. If you don't wanna read infuriated text, switch to another post.

    Oh. My. GOD.

    Katanas are full of :dung:
I'm not kidding. The only thing worse than a katana is a laggy spear. And the ***** who wields it.

Katanas are NOT punishable, swing fast enough to use with a kick and motherf*cking wake-up attacks, and have good AR. Their "downside?"

"An easily chipped blade." If only that :dung: mattered.

I'm sick and tired of all katanas. The majority of the people I fight use katanas, and it sickens me. While fun to use(I've used my share), I find that they kill people too easily. Same thing with spears, which I only pull out to deal with katanas, but I don't want to use spears as a crutch.

It really makes me sad that most people I come across use them. It is, to me, unoriginal and drab. Out of all the weapons to use, an unbelievably cheap katana is your choice. On top of that, I came across 5 different people who buffed a washing pole with DMB. That weapon... Look Skyward

I hate katanas. I hate dark magic also, but that's another rant.

If you cared to read my rant, thank you. I appreciate that you spent your time reading this. Proper Bow

it sounds like you've been playing rock paper scissors to much and are tired of people scissoring when you use paper.

    try a curved sword.

the kat has to sit just outside of your range to hit you. if you start trading hits with the curved sword it'll always win with the cblade being just barely strong enough to overpower them if it's a competent player, but even then..

learn how to use a curved sword well. not just how to r1 spam for stunlocks, i mean actually play with the thing, try out combos, see what works..

also.. your character has no burdence load like in demon's souls. from is basically encouraging you as a player to carry more than one weapon along with you, so that if you come across something that gives you problems you have an answer.. so utilize that and carry more weapons with you.

    I do. The character I was just playing as, I have a 2 +14 pgc's, a enchanted falchion +4, a darksword +15, a greataxe +15, a SKS +5, the works. I carry a well-stocked inventory, because I'm a quality build. I'll go ahead and post what my build...

My signature only proves your point.

I also like to use katanas for style. I dual wield them, run around with fairly low poise, and don't pair pyromancy with them, so I think it's fair in a way.

what the heck is a pgc?

you want 27-28 or 40 strength and 40 dex on a quality build. always use a +15 falchion. they're enchantable and hit like a truck when you have the strength to back them up 2 handed.. and 27 strength gives you 40 strength two handing it.

swings for 409, and fast as well as stunlocking. uchigatana hits for 420 at 40 dex.. and iaito is 410.
YOUR FALCHION WILL HIT AS HARD AS AN IAITO. i'm not even including the part about it being buffable.

    Ok. Just wondering.

After looking at your build the issue may be you just have not found your right weapon yet. As an example. A claymore is a fine weapon to fight katana users. The rolling R1 has a long reach and does good damage. The 1-handed has good reach and does good damage. The 2-handed R2 is able to bypass shields when used at an angle. Plus it can stun. I think the only issue might be you still need to find the weapon that suites your play style.

All weapons have their strengths and weaknesses. I would try to find the one that fits your style.

    Katanas = Fast
Greatswords = Stun, Reach and Damage
    Spear = Reach
    Etc.

i think the 1h r1 can dead angle too, the initial swing hits to the right almost directly behind the character.

but yeah ^ he's right too.

I've been building up a claymore to use, it's +10 now.
You have a point. I often switched to my SKS to fight katanas, but like I stated in my rant, I don't like "falling back" on a spear to fight. It feels like a crutch, even though(to me) spears are counters to katanas. Going into a fight with my SKS out is ok, but sometimes I feel like I cheesed my opponent out using the range. Not a good feeling. silly

my bad, did I type pgc? I meant pgs, you know, painted guardian swords. lol!

I like dual-wielding them when I'm not being serious. It CAN be effective, though not often with my skill level. And I'm also building up a regular falchion. I haven't optimized most of my builds equips. A lot of them are at +10 still. 😢

That is fare and everyone needs to create their own set of guidelines for when they PVP. I used to keep a spear on me as back-up all the time. Then I realized that as soon as I started not doing well in a fight I would pull it out for the easy win. I would just say experiment with different weapons. This is my own personal opinion, and I know some people are great with the weapon, but the Dark Sword is a difficult weapon to master. If this is for a toon around level 50 or 100 just send me a friend request and I can help you out with some weapons. That may be all it takes.

I appreciate it, Baal. It's a lvl 120, I actually based the build as a spellsword featuring the darksword just cuz of how BALLIN' it looked. But yeah, it weighs as much as a claymore and doesn't hit as hard, not mention the crappy r2 attacks.

I don't care how crappy it is, as it's my favorite weapon. I will master it. One day. hahaha. But it does not fare well against katanas. Not at all.

Also, I think the darksword swings slower than the regular swords, thus adding to it's incompetency.

Additionally, my best weapon class are the heavy ones, specifically the DGM and the MSGS. However, the joys of being a darkwraith and being a quality build are numerous, so I've become rusty with those. Haha!

    WTF katanas are awesome.

But yeah, I pulled out my spear last knight and *** everyone that used katanas and curved swords silly. But that's only because that's the best way to counter those weapons. Every weapon has a weakness. The best way to counter a spear user is to take distance, poison/toxin (if he only counter attacks), and if he is too aggressive, just parry him; or if you're able poise his attacks and counter attack him. Also Poise Backstab.
