    Whoever has played DeS knows what I'm talking about. Old Monk. We need a boss like that in DsKII. We NEED one. That was my favorite boss fight, and I loved being someone else's boss.


    We really need this.


    For those who haven't played DeS, the Old Monk summoned a black phantom npc for you to fight as a boss. If you played online, chances are he would summon an invader. So literally, you had to win a match of PvP to proceed through the game. If the invader killed you, he got a hat that boosted magic damage and lowered magic defense. Cool stuff.

    I agree we should get another old monk style boss, he was really fun.

    Don't forget that the host was at a disadvantage too as the invader had the soul masses auto generating from the hat. Awesome stuff.

    another alternative is to do something like the ur-dragon in dragon's dogma, have a creature that can be fought by 3 hosts and their phantoms simultaneously. with an absolutely ridiculous health bar of course. but if you want to fight the creature solo or with only their phantoms some balista things similar to those used on the dragon god become avaliable that you can use to bring it down by 2 thirds, the rest of which must be taken care of by the player ... so give the boss like 60,000 hp in ng and 120,000hp in ng+ for solo , but if the host has phantoms but not the 2 other hosts+phantoms the hp is 90,000.

    Or something like my Princess Guardian covenant idea(not that I would self promote or anything. It just seems it would be more...organized since being the boss would be voluntary and not by chance.

    Just beat Old Monk on mine. We need something like this in DS2 or it just wouldn't be the same. Maybe this time we could get a special shield that isn't really helpful unless you are two-handing your weapon? (Like a Grass Crest Shield but with 0% physical block)

    Old Monk was great, and a similar fight should definitely return.

    Another idea I had was have a dedicated covenant that invades mid-boss-fight.

    This also. Maybe a shield that is like the Morion Blade, but 50% PhysDef. Maybe a piece of armor that gives stamina regen?

    I would like a return of Old Monk, but perhaps as an optional boss.

    Definitely an Offline mode similar to the original Old Monk, otherwise if glitching/abuse becomes too great many people will get stuck.

    As well imagine a boss you couldn't fight if you do not have an online connection.

    You didn't say whether or not there would be an offline mode so I figured I'd just bring it up.

    This is true. They should make it optional. They should also make it so that you can only fight the boss if and only if someone gets summoned, otherwise you have to wait by the Fog Gate. Would stop any abuse of a glitch/exploit.

    The boss would need to be optional or have npcs for help for the people who dont have access to wifi.

    In DeS, it spawned a standard NPC phantom. It could just do the same. Or, it could be an optional online boss, but I don't like the idea of a certain part of the game restricted to online play. Sounds to EA-ish for me. tongue

    Yeah, that doesn't seem too fair. Although, I think the boss should be skippable, and only fightable while online. (Like Priscilla, but with the jump out on the outside of the Fog gate). If you were online, the golden gate would turn white when someone is summoned. And the boss shouldn't give you any Souls except what you would get for a normal PvP fight. (fighting as a SL 1 then getting 60k souls for killing another SL 1 doesn't seem fair, I would prefer the 300 souls). This would mean that the only purpose for the boss would be an extra item and souls that scale with your level, (assuming someone around your level is summoned).

    Making it in the terms of Priscilla is a great idea. I just want all of the game to be accessible to those who are online or not online. There is a reason some enemies drop covenant items. Harpy-men: little ear thing, basilisks, eye of death, etc. Multiplayer boss fights. 3358384175

    I'm not saying the area should be online-only, I'm specifically saying the boss should be only accessible while online, and you can still leave the area with out having to kill the boss, although being online and killing it would net you that free item.

    I get it, but still. All items should be accessible, to a greater or lesser extent, to offline play. Well, there is the custard tornado... Meh. I concede. silly

    Maybe an item that can help, but other items at that point are better. (Like the Monk's Headwrappings, although helpful, you only need Ring of Sharpness and/or [maybe] Kris Blade for the magic boost, anything past that is overkill).

    Bleh, 120% extra damage is disgusting. Try these damn glass cannons (of which I own one). Darkmoon Talisman (50 FTH), Ring of Sun's Firstborn, Crystal [Insert ANY weapon here] +5, Darkmoon Blade, Power within, Dragon roar, red tearstone.

    I'm behind the idea of an Old Monk esque fight in Dark Souls as long as it is:

    A) Optional

    or

    B) The stats are capped

    If I'm not mistaken, the Old Monk fight was a problem for some people simply because the person chosen would come in with all extremely powerful/endgame gear. That doesn't make for a very fair fight.
