If you are like me and didn't use any tips, maps, cheats, guides on your first run through what were your biggest mistakes. I had some doozies.

When Frampt appeared I thought he was an enemy so fired arrows at him, he disappeared and never came back.

Accidently hit siegmeir when fighting silver knight and had to kill him. Didn't realise you could absolve this sin

Didn't use magic or pyro, just weapons.

Not killing lautrec, ever. I played trough the game without firelink.
Not upgrading gear before after anor londo. And using the occult club after that.

Oh and I also accidentally hit the Crestfallen Warrior when practicing evade attacks in the very beginning, and it took me many hours to finally put him down because 1.) He was hard in the beginning of the game and 2.) I kept asking myself, "wtf is he STILL chasing me?" Had no idea he was going to be permanently agro.

This is just a clumsy error: I had just defeated the silver knights for siegmeyer and after he rewarded me, I went to look at the ring in the pause menu. I was so good at getting to the equip menu quickly so I pushed start and immediately RI to bring me over. Unfortunately, I didn't hit the pause button hard enough and hit Seigmeyer by accident. Felt bad afterwards. He was very amusing hmmmm.....hmmmm...mmm...hmmmm

Finally, in the Asylum I believed a msg that said treasure ahead leading off the cliff. I raged quit and broke the controller.

I missed the majority of my now favorite weapons because I got fixated on the GSoA. A wiki entry states that it's "arguably the best weapon in the game". I read that and said eff everything else. Also had the most useless stats ever thanks to that, since I also skipped out on pyro, sorcery, and miracles. Then by something like NG+8 I finally decided to try some PvP. SL218. 30 effing Vit. In PvE I kept thinkng "this is effin' easy. I don't need more HP." Funny thing is, for the first few days I was PvPing, I was completely oblivious to the fact that 30 vit without the FaP or MoM is laughable, especially for a newb. The handful of wins I managed to edge out at the time though... rode that high for a week. Haha. Makes me hugely simpathetic to newb players. I'm like "oh, man. It's gonna be a rough week, little buddy..."

Fed my slab titanite slab to framt
Fed white chunks expe cting to get twinkling titanite in return
When it didn't work, then fed the blue chunks... Oh my god...
Getting invaded by Kirk in the depths and got killed. I was freaked out and ended the level being Hollow because I didn't want to get invaded again by the same guy and not knowing anything about him being an NPC and the rewards for killing him.
I was able to pass the archers from anor londo after 50 + tries and die from not landing on the balcony... I almost kill myself

I think the archers' spot in Anor Londo is one of the hardest moments in the game. I wouldn't feel bad about that.

The first time I got invaded was in the burg. I was terrified and ran the loop back to the bonfire with the invader on my tail. After realizing the fog gate was impassable, I turned around and tried to fight. I dodged his first attack by rolling off the bridge to my death in front of the bonfire. Prostration

No bluff! It was there. I believe it's possible for msgs to appear in the beginning of the game from players that have left them after they return to the Asylum to fight the Stray Demon. Lovely run-on sentence right there.

I've never seen a player message there in over 1000 hours of gametime, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Why don't you post a pic of that message? Sorry if I come off as rude, but I strive to be corrected when I'm wrong.

50 str. and essentially nothing else levelled. I got very good at coming in out of the dog skeletons aggro range and OHKO'ing with a jump attack.

It's cool. I understand. If I could, I would have taken a picture. Sorry if it seems like a cop out.

I made the archers part on my first try second playthrough then got invaded and killed. I had to start all the way back before the elevator. Took me like 25+ tries afterward.

I got killed first time out by the Archers, then immediately thought 'poison arrow'. Just seemed logical, have dies a few times since tho using my strictly steel build.

    Putting lvls in to resistance..

Trying to free Laurentius by hitting the barrel with my sword..

Summoning Dusk when there's 4 crystal golems around me..

Trying to kill Bed of Chaos with a bow..

Didn't manage to pull off backstabs because I was always having my shield up..

Didn't know what kindling the bonfire means..

Didn't know how to upgrade weapons (until I was in blighttown)..

Gosh, I was such a dumbass on the first playthrough big grin

Not relying on magic more. I didn't take magic seriously since it seemed under-developed, so I kept trying to play as a warrior. I was learning the mechanics and doing quite well, but it took me forever to progress. I generally play magic users since they usually suit my play style. I finally got tired of swinging a weapon and committed to making a magic-reliant sorcerer, reinforcing Int and Attunement over everything else. I immediately made more progress in that single play session than I had in weeks of playing a jack-of-all-trades warrior. I learned that I had to commit to a strategy and playstyle, and stick with it rather than trying to use warrior skills as a crutch. This is when I started studying how the spells act so started to notice the knockback effect, which spells I could fire after parrying and how to use Force to deflect soul arrows and Homing Soulmass.

Also, I was so scared of enemies that I would wait around for minutes waiting for an opening instead of jumping in and being strategic to make my own opportunities.

    @ Wade_Wilson
You can leave messages at the asylum, when you comeback only. I've left messages warning about the Dark knights and I've even read a couple myself. Even kind of silly that the other messages were newer but rated and mine was not.
You can't coop there though or being invaded. But we all know that.

Yes, I remember seeing a message on my first play through as well in the Asylum. I noticed it had a different emblem so I did not trust it. It was similar to what the earlier poster said. Something about a detour ahead and it would have led off the cliff on the way to big bird.

As for early mistakes. I made so many it is tough to think of the biggest. Probably focusing on leveling my character up as opposed to my weapons.

The most "I am stupid moment" was when I figured out, a few hours into the game, that you could scroll left and right on the "purchase" list for the undead merchant. It never occured to me that he would sell weapons and armor. I had visited him a number of times and it wasn't until I needed the residence key that it finally hit me that you could select from other categories.

Thinking my only two options at firelink were either Skeletons or Ghosts. Took me a good 2 days to see the stairs towards the burg.

Another one was after Queeag, heading back through blighttown/depths

Biggest mistake was summoning help for Gwyn on my first attempt(didn't realise it was the end of the game yet)
