    Bridge Wyvern Empty Bridge Wyvern

Post by Aznul Mon Nov 19, 2012 1:16 pm

Okay, I realise that there is a strategy on the wiki, but that has not been working for me when fighting the bridge wyvern. Every time I go to kill this guy he either jumps straight up and hits me with a OHKO pillar of flame or bounces away and spams his fire breath/dash attacks until I die, usually causing me to die halfway through the "standing up" animation. This dragon has become simply infuriating and I want him dead before I move on to NG++. The strategy I used in NG simply is not working anymore.

Before I stayed by the stairs and poked his foot every time he came past me but now if I do that it spooks him into immediately using his straight down pire pillar and I have no time to get out of the way.

I am currently playing offline, so what I need is advice and tips, not offers of direct help that I am unable to take people up on (if you can get summons to him, I honestly don't know)

Dragonslayer greatbow is how I killed him the very first time, but to fight him on the bridge I would suggust you use the black iron armor or black knight armor for their fire defense. If you havent gotten these sets yet, you can just buy lots of arrows and hide under the bridge shooting him.

Well if you don't mind using long range tactics you can do what I always do, go under the bridge, to the door into the room with the 3 rats, but walk past the door instead of going in and walk to the end of the little walkway there. If you aim up with a bow you can catch him with arrows right under the chin. He has absolutely no chance of damaging you from there, and if you have a powerful enough bow, or even sorceries, if you aim them with the bow/binoculars first, you can kill him before he even tries to heal himself.

Thanks guys, used black knight armor +5 and double checked the wiki strategy, totally missed the part of the video that showed the safespot from the pillarBridge Wyvern 2707236321. Now he is dead and I can move on.

Wow, thanks Plastic, I'll remember that for next time, although I guess you have to be careful not to alert the rats sneaking past the door. They'd be a beggar to fight on that narrow ledge.

To kill him in melee I just wait in the safe zone until he drops down, I immediatly start running and hit him once or twice, then run back downstairs and wait for him to de-aggro, then rinse and repeat. I think he's also very weak to lightning.

Yeah I usually just run in and take them out first for fear of that happening while I'm looking through the bow crosshair. An attack from that direction would probably push you right off the ledge

Keep in mind that the bow has to be powerful enough to kill him within a certain number of strikes. Otherwise, each time you get him down to about 1/4 health, he will heal himself, and you'll be stuck in a neverending waste of arrows. Dex build would have no problem, but any other build would need an enchanted or elemental bow.

If you wait to do it until you have access to Griggs you can buy soul arrow spells from both Griggs and Rickert. Usually that's plenty to put it down and you don't have to sweat arrows at all. Of course that's assuming you have at least 10 INT so Griggs will sell you stuff and enough attunement to use at least one. I'd think a small cache of Large Arrows and 20 Soul Arrow castings would be enough. But yes, if you're using a build where you don't intend to have any attunement, then a slightly upgraded bow and at the very least large arrows are necessary. A few poison arrows can make a nice difference as well just to supplement your damage with something constant.

He will come back depending on where you go on the bridge. He never just leaves for good. You're probably just leaving the bridge before he flies all the way back.

    1. Don't RUN when it breathes fire or you'll take extra damage
    2. Hold your shield up and just tank the flames

Your shield will tank the first hit then reduce the amount of damage taken when your guard is broken. Ive tested and proven this myself and i use this tactic every time i cross that bridge without killing it.

@PlasticandRage: Checked your method of killing it from the ledge near the rats with a low level toon (my main characters had already offed it) and it's a great position to get it from which I'd never thought of, so well done you. However, since my toon was too low level only had a poxy bow and no magic, it managed to heal itself. I'm going back though when I've got some decent equipment.

i don't think i have ever killed that oversized chicken, mostly because you don't really get anything worthwhile out of it (should at least get a dragon scale damn it) plus he is a huge pain in the arse (it spams that leap into the air and puke lava attack every bloody time).

@Aznul- My Iron Knight Tarkus faced up to the wee red beastie last night, and had it down in three R2 hits from a +15 unbuffed Greatsword without taking a scratch (or a burn).

Admittedly it was on a NG run, but the ease in which the Bridge Wyvern was taken down would appear to indicate that a fully upgraded Black Iron set, +14 Black Iron Greatshield, and a +15 Greatsword, is the way to go. twisted

I always kill the wyvern on my new characters right after Taurus Demon. Usually with a longsword +0. It takes quite some time.

Depending on where you decide to take your toon you can overkill it before it even has a chance. Soul spear will kill it in just one or two shots. The DSGB works well too. Which makes perfect sense considering the name. If I had to state what I thought was a minimum requirement for killing him before you have to start racing his heals, I'd say at least a +5 bow of some kind and large arrows. I'd think that would do it.

For the longest time this was the only creature in the game that I had been unable to kill. My strategy involved using flash sweat to help with fire resistance, and baiting him to land on the bridge. Get a few hits in, run down the stairs until he flies away, and repeat. Once I got his health low enough I just finished him off with the dragonslayer greatbow. A fitting end. happy

You get 10k's worth of souls on a NG run, what more d'ya want? After all it's only a Mini Boss, and so in the big scheme of things is really not that important. :suspect:
