Post by Acarnatia Sun Nov 11, 2012 2:18 am

Several of the other members of this forum along with myself have at some point(s) expressed an interest in non-war inter-covenant events, especially in light of how large-scale wars are difficult right now, especially with the apparent lack of any large covenant to rival the Darkwraiths. (and furthermore that many of the other large and active covenants have allied with the Darkwraiths) I have noticed no one else actually go into any detail regarding these events, though, so I am posting this thread as a place to discuss possible events that can occur between online covenants other than war events, such as roleplaying, games, or anything else anyone and everyone can come up with.

I've thought of non-war events lately and come up with an Idea. What about a race. Basically the host clears an area then summons the contetants who the try to make it to a priorly established goal.

What about a Sen's Fortress race with black phantoms + SoV acting as obstacles to stop the host and his sunbros reaching the top?

Alright, I think that's good, too. What other games are there that we could base events off of? There's tag (damage a player with a melee weapon to 'tag' them?)... I found this really funny https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jc_r5N-qQv0&feature=my_liked_videos&list=LLLpII20TDbMEZWgJD33_rWA though that is combat.
I still think some kind of spying event would be really cool, as would events themed around disrupting a supply route or such. One way this could be done would be to drop an item and require the spy to retrieve the item AND make it to the entrance/exit of the area and black crystal out.

You guys could do a Mass invasion day, technically not a war with each other. Used to help us back in the day get people active and having fun. Get some invader covenants together and invade one spot to hit it really hard. Maybe with a them, like you have to invade the catacombs. And you can only use Force. Something fun. I still remember forest of the damned, that was a pretty fun one.

A bunch of Hunters, Darkmoon, and Darkwraith banded together. For 24 hours we invaded the forest without stopping. We did it so much, for a day Gankers basically stopped hosting in the forest and went to other parts of the world, because they just died and died. Gravelords actually helped too by cursing the forest and giving us BP's.

Cove's Unite Against Gankers!!! and inundate high gank traffic areas...yes, that would be hysterical!! Maybe a simultaneous multi-area assualt if enough coves get involved.

Gankers would freak...oh, noooo  no where to go :affraid:

I'd suggest trying a one off special themed fight club, lots of guys dueling for kicks, winner is guy with most kills.

The day of invasion is always a good option, i remember forest of the damned, my darkmoon spanked more than his fair share of sinners that day Prayer

You could try doing challenge runs where 1 or 2 phantoms have to protect a host that runs naked with calamity ring on through a level, preferably with ng plus or higher. I heard it and thought it was a fun idea, though i know it was a popular past time among the demons faithful so asking one of them would be a good idea

One thought that I have been entertaining is the use of "pseudo-fortifications".

    Example:

      1) Pick an area to "defend". I would strongly suggest that this "area" be neutral ground (at least until the system works).
      2) Have x-number of people act as "fortifications" by dropping multiple RSS all at once in "strategic places" in the chosen area. With multiple RSS drops in each "strategic place".
      3) Invaders can not start "within" that chosen "area" but MUST get thru each RSS by summoning and defeating each rss in that "strategic place".
      4) EACH RSS in that particular "strategic place" in that chosen "area" must be defeated " one time only" in order to effectively "breach" that particular "fortification" in that "strategic place".
      5) ALL "strategic places" MUST be "breached" in "defended area" in order for that "area" to be considered "taken"

In this sense each rss player becomes apart of the "fortification walls"...so to speak. As stated before...neutral "areas" are strongly suggested until (at least) all kinks are worked out and the system works smoothly.

    control mechanisms:

      1) RSS player ID(s) are listed for each "strategic place"
      2) Invader(s)ID(s) are listed for each "strategic place"
      3) Each RSS player and Vader must indicate which player was defeated or victorious.
      4) NO ONE-MAN SHOWS...in other words if there are 4 rss players there will be 4 vader players whose id's will also be known (or a handicap could be thrown in for **** and giggles on one side or the other)
      5) ONE DUEL ONLY!! per player in each "strategic place" where the victor remains and the defeated is removed.
      6) NO GANKING...any ganking will automatically allow the ganked side to double the number of rss players or vaders. Whichever the case may be.

      Simple!!

There are small but important details not mentioned here but should be common sense....anyway.

THE REWARD!!, especially if neutral ares are used:

Bragging rights and, perhaps, a leaderboard on the forum!!

    1. If the invader defeats the fortification then do the other invaders automatically bypass that fortification?

Thank you for the rep, Ahhotep!
    The ganker hunting sounds fun.
Another idea that occurred to me was (possibly for both war and other events) is a 'mercenary covenant', a covenant that actually sells it's member's services for events and wars. It could be a good balancer (or imbalancer if done inadequately) for wars and events between guilds with a drastic difference in their number of members; for example, having it so that the more active players a covenant has, the drastically less mercenaries they can employ.
And yet another idea is to have lore-specific events, themed based on what covenants are involved. For example, similar to the supply route, there could be a defending team and the invader(s) must pick up a collection of items; the teams could be limited in attack methods, or the defenders could be bound to a particular spot (for example, the defender has to stay near a pile of gunpowder barrels in the Undead Burg. Beware of firebombs and pyromancy!)
Let's see... the basic ideas I have that we can play with (and please add to this if there's anything else) are events based on:
    invading
    defending
    picking up items
    dropping items
    racing
    themed battles
    invaders keeping certain enemies alive
    escorting
entirely lore or roleplaying themed events/battles

Well one Idea I have been tossing around is to have fights in unusual areas. Like the upper part of the painting guardian building or on one of the blade bridges in Sen's Fortress.Though that Idea may count towards themed battles.

Also I like your Idea of a spying Event, Acarnatia could you perchance explain it some more in-depth?

Well, there could be multiple ways to go about it. The player could be required to sneak up, pick up a guarded item and flee to the entrance/exit and leave via the black separation crystal; we could use a text or vocal chat program of some sort (not everyone may have access to verbal chat programs) and the spy could actually have to gain some sort of information that would require them to get close enough to a group of defenders without being spotted (I'm not sure how that would work, though), or perhaps two+ invaders could be required to meet up starting at distant corners of the area (symbolizing the spies meeting to exchange information) and the defenders must keep them from reaching other? (that could be too difficult, though). If anyone else has any ideas of how a spying event could work, please do tell!

If all rss players at that strategic access place are defeated before vaders are defeated then that strategic place or point of access is now open and the fortification (there) has "fallen". All points of access must fall for the area, itself, to be considered "taken or captured"

But to answer your question...Yes, but they progress no further in this scenario. The point in this scenario is to defeat the "fortifications". However, there is no reason why another level of "conquest" can't be incorporated. Such as someone's idea here (I am sorry...but I can't remember their name  ) where "item acquisition or capture" could be worked into a "larger" scenario. Details for which I would be happy to work out...at least in "the rough" For everyone's input!!

But a cautionary word or two or three, if I may.

      1) Whatever we do I don't feel it is wise to get too complicated too soon. Or a good idea might die an early death.

      2) I suggested "neutral areas" to start with...that way all would have a chance to "get use to" a new system. Once, all kinks are resolved and it has evolved then other "areas" could be considered BUT only by each coves consent.

      3) No cove should be forced to participate in any events and suffer the consequences of those events.

@ Ahhotep: Of course not. If there were any penalties for losing, then all parties would need to consent to all of the terms. And yes, I think there should be a few neutral areas and at least one permanently neutral zone. (Firelink Shrine, for example. Can pvp even occur there, though?)

Naw, can't summon or invade at Firelink.

I think this concept would be FUN....and fun is what needs to be re-infused back into events!!! It is flexible enough to try out other peoples ideas as well...with "internal area" challenges once vaders do breach an access point fortification. big grin

Does anyone have a claim on the Parish? It is a rather central area and would be a likely candidate for a neutral place.

Admittedly the Burg is more central but it's also a high traffic area so setting up events there would be very hard.

Inter-Covenant Activities Discussion Thread Empty Re: Inter-Covenant Activities Discussion Thread

    Post by Ahhotep1 Tue Nov 13, 2012 6:52 am

Several Friends mentioned a few things...though I wish they would post here and in the forum... silly

    "monitoring" the event:

There were "self-checks" mentioned (already) as in RSS defenders/vaders (summoners) identifying and reporting each others ID's which is doable since this is not a "mass invasion" but rather RSS defenders/vaders (summoners) are "assigned" to fortification points (example Alpha Point, Charlie Point...or whatever name!). In this case each cove leader would be responsible for assigning RSSdefenders/invaders (summoners). Than, each assigned RSSdefender/vader(summoner) is responsible for reporting victory/defeat along with opponent ID to their cove leader.

Cove leaders than confer with one another and results posted on a forum based leaderboard for all to see.

It is, essentially, a self-checking system that avoids the "points" and "points cap" issues we have had to deal with in the past.

Monitoring any "internal area challenges" would depend on what those challenges would be and how they are structured.

    "Dealing with Randoms":

The frequency and ferocity of random interference would depend on the "area" chosen. Event "vaders (RSS summoners)" will not be using red eye orbs or cracked orbs...but WILL be summoning the the RSS of the "defenders".

However, for the event itself randoms would have no effect on the event outcome. RSS Defenders/vaders (summoners) would simply "deal" with random interference than get back to the business of RSS defending/summoning RSS...since the "integrity" of a "pseudo-fortification depends on vanquishing all assigned RSS Defenders or the defeat of all assigned Vader-RSS summoners.

    Too Complex:

The basic idea is not complicated.

      1) An "area" is chosen and "access points" determined.
      2) The identity and number of "Area RSS defenders" and "area invaders (RSS summoners)" are decided for each "access point" in the area by participating cove leaders. Thus, establishing "pseudo-fortifications" at those "access points".
      3) Defenders using the RSS are summoned by Invading Force.
      4) Pseudo-Fortification remains intact if rss defenders defeat all vader-rss summoners. Fortification is breached and remains open if vader-rss summoners defeat all assigned rss defenders.
      5) Once all "access points" or fortifications are breached the "Area" is effectively "Captured"
      6) If an access point/fortification remains intact (all assigned vaderrss summoners are defeated). A "new round" of "fortification breach attempts" can begin. If all fortified access points fall the Area is awarded to the Invade Force. If, after x-number of breach attempts fail the area is awarded to the Defenders.

    THAT'S IT!!

In the mean time things can be spiced up a bit (and complicated) by adding "internal area" challenges. BUT only those assigned players who, as the invading force, successfully breached a "Fortification" should be awarded a shot at internal area challenges.
