It depends on whether you're talking about PVP or PVE or both.
Honestly after spending a couple of hours invading with a +15 longsword and having gone through the whole game only using it I would have to say a +15 longsword is the best weapon you could use.

Shouldn't matter.
The question is most epic weapon, not best.
So IMO, the Iaito is the most epic because it has a badass moveset. (dat R2)

moonlight great sword. The first time I used it I had no idea it had that special R2 attack. I smacked a enemy with it and thought good its got decent damage. So then i tried the jump attack, but i must not have got the timming right ( i do that a lot actually). The wave came out and exploded on the poor little hollow warrior. If you remember the last matrix movie when smith infects the oracle and dos that crazy guy laugh, yeah that was me right then

PvE - probably a buffed claymore or the Black Knight Haberd
PvP - +15 Estoc buffed with CMW. It tears people apart, if you know how to use it. Plus its moveset is pretty nice
DLC - Abyss Sword because of its awesome front flip attack.

I don't know. I haven't gotten fully into PvP again yet so haven't done much testing with that weapon. I do know it sets you up for a free hit or three if you miss though.

The Obsidian Greatsword. That two handed heavy attack is the most epic special attack, in my opinion, rivaled only by the Moonlight Greatsword's moonlight waves.

I'm going to say the Dark Hand. It's useful, and can be deadly, but requires a great deal of skill and timing to make it that way. The couple times that I've killed someone/been killed by someone with the Dark Hand, it was earned all the way.

I would say the BKGA if it had a shorter handle and was a bit smaller, cause it is actually based on a real battle axe style weapon its just been supersized to the point where its ridiculous...
also the plows r2 attack can inflict 600 damage on the oolacile residents which seem to have really high defense also if your opponent is in front of you but the first thrust misses on the r2 the falling animation has another thrust that deals damage equivalent to a regular attack.

That stuff I knew about the do or die thrust. The damage potential is literally ridiculous for a spear. The moveset is a huge adjustment for me but damage has not been.
