Why From...Why?
Really, why? the glgs was my favorite weapon. even if it was a very underrated and underwhelming weapon, even if his stats scaling and move set were awful i still wanted to use it. But now the only two things that made that weapon awesome to me now are gone. the high base AR with minium stat investment (now replaced by the obsidian gs) and his insane speed (patch GS nerf).
so, what's the point now? the glgs it's really *** up...

Re: Why From...Why?
I never thought the GlGS was fast anyway. The horrible R2 that no intelligent human being would ever be caught by is a good example of this. The sword needed a buff to begin with, but now it needs to be overhauled. I sort of consider Gwyn to be the supreme God for the WoW and WoS so I always thought his weapon should resemble Grant's scaling. Maybe B fth instead of A and have a similar aux effect. The sword kind of sucks by the end of NG+ so yeah it's pretty lame in both PvE and PvP. I also always thought the crown should've increased Miracle power and his armor at least have 20 poise. I think that's fair, but that is just my opinion.

I catch people with the r2 a lot. You just have to unlock and spin around when the go for a bs.

With the armor you have 0 poise.

Who says you have to use the armor just because you're using the sword?

Re: Why From...Why?
the obsidian sword might have a little higer ar but its got less reach and that's the difference between winning and losing. i dont really care about the speed of the gs' getting nerfed since i never stunlocked unless im fighting gankers.

Re: Why From...Why?
To balance the greatswords From had to slow them all down. It's a necessary evil.

Re: Why From...Why?
The glgs was as fast as MLGS, or maybe a little bit less.
anyway, now it's hard as hell to make a viable build of this weapon. since any Gs it's better now...
hope from buff it

Okay you dont get it. Let me try it this way. I roll bs people all the time that use your suggested tactic. How does my statement quantify the overall usefullness of the attack? What difference does it make if i said i was more successful with something that has clear and noticable flaws. Furthermore, how does your vague scenario correlate to my broad and specified statements about the items mentioned in this thread?

Re: Why From...Why?
To be honest, the GLGS was never a very good weapon because of damage, because other greatsword were better in that area. The good thing about it is that it had more POISE damage than the rest of greatswords, so it could stunlock in less hits people with high poise. But now with the nerf to the speed of the 2-handed attack of greatswords it just trivial.

Re: Why From...Why?
I don't think he was saying roll but that if you make it look like your attacking away with the r2 slam and make them think they have the opportunity to get in a free attack you can then turn mid swing to catch them as they run in. With proper timing and very sparring use it would catch anyone overly anxious to get the kill quickly.
I couldn't agree with the OP more, when I first heard of the speed drop I assumed they'd just changed the faster greatswords like the claymore or even MLGS but not the ones with special move sets that where already slower. I'm not looking forward to an even slower great lord GS and the Idea of a slower GS of Artorias is just frightening.

Re: Why From...Why?
I was suggesting that when ever someone tries that tactic of turn away and hit R2 then quickly change direction I usually roll bs them because it is slow and easily predicted. If i am up against any large weapon and someone runs from me i automatically assume they are going for said tactic. A smart opponent would recognize this and wouldn't attack linearly either.
I akso agree with the OP but the MLGS, Flamberge, and Claymore were the big problems. MSGS didn't have the same range or arc so I can excuse that.

chiz the glgs never has a "special" property about poise damaging. it's just a big chunk fo metal.
anyway, i'll chose another Gs for my build...

Re: Why From...Why?
Why does it matter how powerful the GLGS is? If you like the weapon, just use it, it doesn't have to have super high AR.
EDIT: Actually, at 40 strength and 40 dexterity, the GLGS has the 4th highest AR of all the greatswords, behind the stone greatsword, the cursed GSoA, and the true GSoA. But, the stone greatsword and the true GSoA have split AR, and the cursed version requires 18 intelligence and faith, so the GLGS would still probably be the best (except it can't be buffed)

Yes it does. It has been tested, though not in detail. At least in Patch 1.05 (current version of consoles) it does more POISE damage than other greatswords. It can easily stagger people in full giants in less hits than the rest of greatswords as an example.

It does not, no greatsword can break 53 poise with 1 hit.

Re: Why From...Why?
It has very high AR at base stats, higher than a normal Claymore by a big difference. If elemental is getting nerfed, it could even out damage a lightning Claymore, pure physical AR. It depends on the build you're using and how you make it around the sword. At 27/40, it also has higher AR than a normal Claymore. Example build:

So you raised vitality to compensate for the likely hood of you being bsed because of mid roll and added lolmancy. I really cant see how that build is very special.

Re: Why From...Why?
Greatswords are very good with mid roll, they need high poise to tank hits and to win the battle of R1 spammage. They also have very bad roll attacks, except the Claymore. So it's really R1 spamming fest, no skills needed. That build can tank 2 two handed Claymore hits without being stunned, I call it the forgotten tank class of DkS (now it has arisen due to DWGR's nerf). GLGS works as a elemental weapon due to low AR scaling, so it's good for Vit/End builds.

Re: Why From...Why?
Why would I turn away from them? That would be retarded. I start it facing them when they are close enough to try for a bs, then when they are circling, I spin and catch them. I have to through in a couple "failed" attempts at doing it normally first, so it gives them the idea to try a bs tho.
And vague scenario? What the hell are you talking about? I simply gave a way I like to turn a "flaw" into a viable attack to throw in here and there. Also, mentioning the armor was still pointless and irrelevant to a conversation about the weapon.

^ I'd be grateful if you showed more intelligence buddeh. I don't respond to moronic people very well.
@Wyrm
In the new content you probably won't see a lot of heavy weapons. Yes, they will be there, but probably less frequent. The back stabbing will still be rampant though so midroll will still be punished hard for it's slow back peddling speed. Chain stabbing will be more popular since back stabs aren't as strong with the hornet's ring. From what I have seen of the Arena, the game didn't really change all that much except for gear choices. People will still be pinwheel mask/Havel fast roll trolling.

Take a hike with your insults. They aren't warranted and aren't needed, so show a bit of basic respect.
