Sucking Humanity from Phantoms

I was in the depths with an SL20 on NG+ last night, and some dude invades me with a mask of the father, havel's armor, and a bandit's knife. Needless to say, he starts the battle by circling me. I backstab him, and as he's waking up, I whip out the dark hand and try to go for the wakeup soul suck (the jackass truly deserved this treatment, imo). It looks like I landed it, but instead of getting the soul suck animation, I hear some static-type noise and deal nominal damage to him. As he's circling me again (of course), I try the darkhand suck a few more times after he misses more bs attempts. Most of my attempts flat out miss, but another one appears to hit and I again get the strange static noise. In the meantime, this guy can't land a backstab on me despite the fact that I keep missing with my darkhand (terrible pvp gameplay in a griefing invasion is the sign of a true bb-glitcher).

Has anyone scored a soul suck against an invader? I'm starting to wonder whether it's possible.

MAybe he was sucked dry. Wait that sounded wrong....

To be clear, you did this while you were a host against a darkwraith, right?

yeah it can be done on a phantom, i was summoned as a dark spirit to have a naked fist fight with this guy, he then takes out a dark hand and steals 7 *** humanity from me!!

Pretty sure it's because of Havel's. Many times I've missed what looked like a perfect soul-suck on people wearing Havel's. FFS, sometimes they'd be AFK and I'd miss a few sucks! To successfully soul-suck someone wearing full Havel's, I find I have to be right behind their back.

No, I say that because I've soul-sucked people in lighter armor from any and all angles. You can even poise-suck them! With high enough poise, you'll tank their hits without staggering and if they were stupid enough not to roll away you'll land the grab. I like to do that sometimes against opponents who are clearly noobs, then crystal out and let them live. I got what I came for, the humanity, I don't need their life or their souls. Even on my characters that already have max humanity I do it just to mess with their game! I am an invader after all.

Against full Havel's though, generally, if I'm not right behind them, the grab will just bounce right off them

huh, that's interesting that havels would have that effect, do you have this trouble with other heavier armors (meaning it is poised based)?

I haven't really noticed, because most people online either go Havel's or light/ medium armor. Only one I really noticed bouncing off of has been Havel's, but I'd say I haven't tried on other heavy armors enough times to say.

Well, that would explain my experience. I'll try using it on other heavy armor users and see what happens. My typical use is the wakeup drain, but I might try to parry drain to see if that works better.
