Is the Darkmoon Bow any good?
So my high level toon recently became too high sl to effectively be in the DM covenant, so I decided to kill Gwyndolin and go for the Darkmoon Bow. I heard somewhere that the darkmoon bow + moonlight arrows does the most damage of any bow/arrow combo, including the DSGB. However, after trying it out, I'm only doing about 120-160 damage per hit. Would the composite bow +15 with large arrows be a better choice?

Depends on build. If you have 50 faith, then occult/divine composite. If you have low stats I think Darkmoon Bow wins.

I'm talking about in pvp. Peeve seems to have no trouble using a bow effectively, and it's nice to have a viable ranged option besides avelynGaxe wrote:Idk, i'm a pvp person, bows aren't good in pvp lol.

Katanas please tell me you don't spam roll r1 like almost everyone else that uses them... almost as easy to parry as the burger king gank axe.Gaxe wrote:Sorry bud but you use a bow against me your not going to survive long since i'm more of a person that's in your face with a katana/rapier :3

Bows can be useful for sniping down a running/flasking opponent on their last legs but unless you're shooting at an already distracted opponent, you have to be really good to utilize them effectively.

Re: Is the Darkmoon Bow any good?
well i pvp in the kiln with my sunbro. so i mainly use my dragonslayer bow and knock them off the ledges, if not then im useing my BBoP with poison arrows, then those moonlight arrow things. its SUPER effective.

I've seen a good bow user fight a good pvper and they won without taking damage. When used well they destroy their targets. Its like an even longer ranged spear.

Re: Is the Darkmoon Bow any good?
Yeah this is basicly how i win with bows.
*Darkwraith enters world*
Shoot poison arrows until poisoned.
TWoP
Dragonslayer greatpwn.
Flask before they get up
Dragonslayer greatpwn.
Run away.
Shoot moonlight arrows from afar, until he gets to close then dragonslayer pwn again.
rinse and repeat, flask as needed.

...though I must admit, it's effectiveness, I've been killed in a similar fashion more than once.

Re: Is the Darkmoon Bow any good?
What you do is wield the DSB without the required str values. SO its still shoots them across the screen but does like 2 damage.

i just use a +15 composite bow with large or poison arrows. it hits for like 100-200.

Like I said, this is my high sl build, so I have at least 50 in all relevant stats.

Returning topic to OP, before it starts: "bows are good VS bows are not good"
I preffer the Darkmoon bow. With moonlight arrows, you can do lots of damage that normally is ignored and underestimated by the enemy

same speed, same weight, darkmoon bow is cooler and requires Demons titanite instead of chunks. For someone who don't glitch to get itens, like me, its much better

Re: Is the Darkmoon Bow any good?
So while looking at your bow build, I noticed that divine + 10 has a higher AR. Does occult have some kind of modifier that makes it penetrate armor or something or does divine actually deal more damage with 50 faith?Carphil wrote:Returning topic to OP, before it starts: "bows are good VS bows are not good"

The only difference I noticed about large divine and occult things is scaling:
http://tinyurl.com/bqktjae
everything with C str and C dex scalign gets A in faith once you reach +9 divine or +4 occult. BUT, some people already complained about getting B doing the Large divine path and A doing the occult path. Maybe its a bug like the Elite knight set, in some places around the world it has 15 poise, in other places it has 20 poise.
Plus the occult has more phisical AR and less magical AR.

Re: Is the Darkmoon Bow any good?
Bows are ridiculously good in PvP IMO. Shoot just as they swing and it's almost always a head shot, which does more damage and staggers them. Take poison arrows for the turtles and you're good to go! Faith archer is a really viable, if not completely OP, build

Re: Is the Darkmoon Bow any good?
I also agree that bows are very very viable in pvp, almost too much so. I always face palm when people use the DSB and the arrow shoots in a 90 degree angle. I personally think the short bow is just as good as the composite, and it weighs half as much. They both fire at the same speed, and usually people are just using them to poison so it really isnt a big difference. I do try and use composite if i am a warrior 40/40 build cause it does great dmg. The darkmoon bow is basically the composite bow with magic dmg(which you could forge devine composite bow and do the same thing). If you have the correct stats to use it effectively, remember to use magic arrows.

Re: Is the Darkmoon Bow any good?
the dmbow has the advantage of range over the composite but if your at mid range with it it preforms ths same or worse than an occult composite. lastly, bows can be used similarly to spears, roll and fire roll and fire... you don't get hit and do lots of damage with the option of poisoning them too...

Re: Is the Darkmoon Bow any good?
the DM bow has the fastest fire rate of all the bows with a slight bit lower DMG also to difference between occult and divine is that occult DMGes humans(pvp) and divine DMGes undead(PVE)

Re: Is the Darkmoon Bow any good?
Remeber that DM bow has physical and magical AR somewhat equally split. If you want to deal the most magical damage with moonlight arrows, you'll want a bow that has a large magical AR and scaling. Enchanted/magic and divine/occult upgrade path do this, sacrificing physical scaling for magical scaling. But if you are a high SL guy with all stats high (Str/Dex/Faith at 40/40/50) then you'll want the DM bow so that you have equal AR scaling on moonlight arrows and poison/large arrows.

Re: Is the Darkmoon Bow any good?
Well I mainly fight in the Burg or Forest and bows really aren't a viable option in these places. I have had many people try to fight me with a bow in these places and they don't really do crap except leave them self open for my 2 hand R2 attack with my dragon greatsword rofl.
