    Tearstone ring tandem? Empty Tearstone ring tandem?

    Post by Imarreteet23 Tue May 15, 2012 10:38 pm

    So, I have an only parry build. It was the first real build I ever made. Now, before, I was using the Bandits Knife, Target Shield, and Hornet Ring. But recently I have decided that the Hornet Ring should never be used. It's name is tainted. So, I switched that out for the Red Tearstone ring. I love that ring, but what should my second ring be? At the moment, I am using the Blue Tearstone ring as well, but is it worth it? And if not, then what should my second ring be?

    Edit: Oh, and also. Currently, I am using the plain Dagger instead of the BK. Do you think the BK is overpowered/gankerish? And remember, this is my parry build. I literally cannot do anything else with this build except parry.

    No, I don't think the Bandit's Knife is overpowered since, despite its crit rating and the fact that it's its intended purpose, it does not deal the highest critical damage in the game. Str weapons with really high ARs do more damage than a BK on critical hits.

    As for the Blue Tearstone... Sounds like you have more experience with than I do, so what do you say? I always figured it was pretty pointless, since by the time it activates you'll die in 1 hit whether you have it on or not! If that's the case, then really any ring other than the BTSR would be more worthwhile.

    All I know is RTSR + Hornet's Ring would be a pretty mean thing to do! Opponent whittles you down to your last health, and you're still in the fight since all it takes is 1 parry for you to kill him.

    50 vitality.
    Ring of Favor and Protection
    Mask of the Mother
    -really- good tanking gear.
    Blue Tearstone Ring...

    You now have 750+ physical defense, 450+ defense to all magic types, and insane poise.
    That last 400 HP lasts 4 to 6 blows, a bandit knife backstab only does 210 damage, black knight GA get's 380...
    I've majorly considered a RTSR and BTSR combo. It could turn tanking into a very deadly tactic.

    @Rynn........thats a Min/maxer Giants armored class :evil:
    I am very disappointed in you Rynn! I thought you were better than that!!

    Yeah, RTS and HR would be the best parry class. The name of the HR may be tainted but you can restore honor to its name with your parry only class.

    I know you're teasing, but it's not mini-maxing if you're heavy rolling... and giants armor is horrible for my trick.

    @BLA1NE I really don't want to use Hornet's. I feel dirty every time I use it. I will be using the BK though. You're right, parrying/BS was it's intended purpose. It's too good to pass up.

    @Rynn :shock: That's tanking on a whole new level. Wow. bounce

    @rynn
    Ooooh you mean a Parry tank? I see, but the 50 vit, RoF and MoM is overkill imo. To me 30 vit is high though so

    20 vitality is high to me...
    This isn't overkill, because you're trying to get RTSR and BTSR to activate while you still have the HP for them to do something worthwhile.

    No, no, I wasn't suggesting you use it! I literally meant it would be mean to use both together--as in: not something I would suggest.

    Normal dagger is basically the bandit knife with no bleed, which doesn't mean anything if you are parrying.

    it also has a cooler move set, love the 2handed r2, so dramatic! also have you tried a mail breaker for your parry build? it has better base damage than either dagger with slightly less critical and the armor piercing effect of rapiers.

    Hmmm. I suppose I'll have to dig out my Mail Breaker, upgrade it to +15, and see which one is better.

    @Rynn lol nice, I stop at 20 because 15 is too low for me in PvP and anything in between doesnt feel as complete. (I like nice, round numbers divisible by 5)

    The Chaos Mailbreaker did the exact AR of a Chaos BK, (307) with 27 less critical, resulting in much less damage.
    I do have a +14 MB, but not a +14 BK to compare it to.

    I say use the hornet ring and use it proudly. No matter what you do, how fair you try to play or how "honorable" you attempt to fight, someone will always ***** about losing. Every single tactic in this game is cheap to someone out there, so don't let them determine how you play by making you feel guilty.

    Your build is specifically built for parrying, which is a more difficult tactic to master compared to backstabs and it has a built in risk of being punished if you miss it. Rapiers and daggers are specifically meant to have a bonus modifier for parries and backstabs, yet high damage weapons like great club, demon great axe, etc.. still do more damage. I see nothing wrong with using a hornet ring, even with RT ring, just to bring the damage up higher than weapons that shouldn't be doing that much damage in the first place.

    Seriously, if you're red tearstone ring is engaged and your opponent is dumb enough to spam r1 or attack you in a predictable way then they deserve to eat a nasty riposte that finishes them off. That's the thing about parries in this game, the opponent has no one else to blame but himself for being predictable enough in his attacks to get caught in the first place. Use the gear you want to use and forget what other people say. The point of you playing is for your own enjoyment, not so that your opponents will think better of you. No matter what you're going to get hatemail occasionally when you win, why not at least make it worth it.
