Lightning Spear is OP at low levels

This miracle is borderline game breaking at early levels.

I'm playing out my new cleric swordsman build. Main stat is faith followed by dex and I'm using nothing but a divine main weapon and a Iaito as back up (when i get it). I haven't used the BB glitch, only the master key to pick up Astora's Straight Sword and the Dragon Crest shield at the start of the game.

Anyway, by the time I got to level 20, my faith was at 20 as well. Holy balls, the lightning spear tears enemies up at the parish at this level. It was one shoting the Balder Knights and was doing 300-400 damage per hit on the Bell Gargoyles. It made co-op a breeze.

Then, I went to the Garden/Basin to get my divine ember. The spear took out the butterfly in 4-5 hits. I defeated him before he had a chance to land once. And I was only hit once.

After that, I went to the Lower Undead Burg and took on the Capra Demon. Yep, the Lightning Spear dropped him like yesterday's trash in 4-5 hits too. The Capra got about 2 lucky hits on me before he melted.

Seriously, I'm really happy I invested the souls to level up my faith so early in the game. Aside from the bosses, it made the black knights, Havel, the Hydra, and the Crystal Golems a breeze as well. Now, I'm level 27 with a faith stat of 24 and just waiting to hit Faith 30 so I can use the G.Lightning Spear that I just got .

lightning spears are spears are awesome, i love the sunlight spear, looks so badass and theyre really good for bosses too.

My first cleric build used them, but not as extensively as this new guy. I'm surprised at the power, basically.

Its not lightning spear specifically thats OP at low levels, its lightning weapons in general at low levels.

i dont think theyre op at all, its only cause all youre leveling only faith wich is a nice trade off, i'd rather hit harder.

Well its not that it is greatly overpowered ... With a bit of elemental reinforcing you can 1-2 hit some of the early bosses.

i once had SLB and a 15+ DGA in ng+, i killed the gargoyles in 2 hits each

That's the thing tho, I'm not doing any kind of glitching or exploiting me way through this run. I'm only using stuff you can rightfully get at the start of the game. I'm not going to have access to elemental weapons at least until I get to Anor Londo.

I'm really curious now to see how the Stray Demon likes my lightning spears.

But... getting an elemental weapon is not an exploit.
Step 1 get your weapon of choice and enough shards from the undead soldiers to get it to +5
Step 2 fight your way through the catacombs to vamos killing the lizards for 2 green shards and picking up one on the way down to him
Step 3 Upgrade to fire +2

This is most certainly not a glitch and I dont really feel it is an exploit.
It certainly makes the catacombs pretty fun without divine and at a low level.

Now you only have to get the Crown of Dusk and Darkmoon Talisman for full damage output! I wished I had discovered that earlier! I have only found out with a Toon focused on Faith that Lightning spears are making the life easier.

PvE is getting so funny.

But I have some problems in PvP with lighning spears.... at least when 1vs1....

Wow, I knew that you have access to fire weapons in the catacombs. What I didn't know was that you can get green shards on the way down.

Yeah, an elemental weapon would wreck face that early in the game.

You could also get past the Dragons at Valley of Drakes and make your way to Blighttown. I don't know if you could defeat Quelaag with an SL 20 (non BB glitch of course), but if you could, you can defeat Ceasesless very easy using the alternate method. The you'll have to fight about 8 Taurus Demons to get the Chaos ember real fast and die in the lava. Then you can have Chaos weapons before defeating Bell Gargoyles. It needs a terrible amount of work so it's better to just farm some green titanites from the Leeches and make your way through Catacombs to get the Fire +5.

Edit: Only issue would be getting Red Titanites Chunks right, then you'll have to offer Humanity to the Fair Lady to get the shorcut open and farm them at Chaos Bugs, I believe they drop them.

The theme for this build was a miracle first swordsman build. I guess I was just surprised at how hard the lightning spear hit guys. I don't know why I never used it as much on my other faith builds.

the stone worms in the area past ceaseless drop red chunks... and the two black knights in the asylum drop em... heck early on you could have a +9 divine weapon via the butterfly and a suicide run to totg (no slab due to yellow door but...) its even possible to get a +15 weapon pre gargoyles. to get the large ember use the special jump trick in the burg to acces the capra demon (or just pick up the parish key...) and voila that whole area is open, then new londo isn't that tough to open early on if you've picked up a fire weapon (great scythe works well here) and then once its been drained you can run to the very large ember, for a slab just go beat the stray demon and for chunks... the lizards tend to drop them and if not farm dark wraiths and collect the two in treasure chests in new londo. you can also get a +4 enchanted weapon easy if your willing to farm the basin crystal golems for blue chunks. also +9 fire is possible too but why when you can have chaos?

My low level sunbro, (SL26) has 20 faith and after all 10 lightning spears the gaping dragon still has more than half his hp....so it doesn't last as a hugely op miracle.

...but at 50 faith with the crown and firstborn ring the lightning miracles kick all kinds of ***, lol.

I am even pretty good using them in pvp with manual aiming, (where they are GOING to be ) nothing quite like the knockback effect of a sunlight spear to make you smile.

They're OP because you weren't originally intended to get them at such a low level. The original required faith for the sunbros was 50, meaning you either had to Coop a load or come back later. It's powerful as you were meant to receive is at a later stage, presumably at least till you had finished anor londo.

And as for the gaping dragon, what talisman are you using? I'm using the Thorolund (165 mag adjust) right now, and it's a beast.

After I cut the tail off of the gaping, I'll Lightning bolt! him down and see how many it takes.

Yep, Thorolund here as well.

....and I have used him to kill the Dragon at LEAST 100 times in co-op.

How did you get the lightning spear before Anor Londo. . .

You shouldn't have access to the sunlight covenant yet.

the sun cov's requirements have become much lower, 2 co-op sessions at most to be allowed in, and then all you have to do is dodge the dragon which is actually not that hard to do....

you can run past the bridge wyvern and coop any time after you have beaten taurus demon (or gotten to the parish anyways), you can get to it without even beating a boss in your own lordran

You just go to the broken statue now?

It used to be you needed to talk to solaire and he had to offer you passage into the covenant.

he might just not join sun bros often. im guessing the other times he did he just did it when solaire is standing next to the statue and figured that was required.

and you can easily get a +5 fire weapon not just a +2. with master key farming the slugs in blighttown swamp is one of the best things you can do early game at low lvl. you get tons of green shards and a decent amount of large tinite shards. you can also get a +5 drake sword rather easily at low lvl by going down to ash lake. if other people mentioned this sry i just skimmed through quickly.

I actually killed the bridge dragon . And yes, you can simply join the covenant at the altar.

But, by the time you get to the gaping dragon, the lightning spear loses much of it's punch.

It's still very useful however.
