Pugilist Lvl120 Build, Something Completely Different

Post by Buggy Virus on Mon May 07, 2012 9:29 pm

I really wanted to capture the feeling of an old timey pugilist, so I crafted this build.

    http://tinyurl.com/bqkx8en

Sadly we can't get big old timey mustaches. The idea of the build is to use the caestus as the primary, as well as the dark hands R2 as a throw/alternate attack. One darkmoon blade to supercharge the caestus.

Punching takes so little stamina that there is really no need for endurance, so that's all I really need.

And instead of rolling I'm going to try to back step as much as possible.

looks good, with a build like that you really need to bs or parry as much as you can.

seems like a pretty cool build. With that faith you should use the canvas talisman though, you can get it from Patches I think.

Thanks, it's going to be my FC build.

I'll be sure to look out for the canvas talisman.

On a different note, do you think I should scale down the dex and str in exchange for more atn, end, or vit?

Also, how much of a damage boost would the dmb give my caestus

It appears we shall meet in the XBL FC then good sir!

That being said, from my experience you will probably need all the stamina you can get. Granted, my character is a Forest Hunter, so I am typically dodging more then you would have too, but the caestus is probably the hardest weapon to get a hit with, so you will whif a lot for a time.

DMB depends on your covenant level.
Blade of the Darkmoon -> Talismans MagAdjust * 1.8
Blade of the Darkmoon +1 -> Talismans MagAdjust * 1.9
Blade of the Darkmoon +2 -> Talismans MagAdjust * 2.0
Blade of the Darkmoon +3 -> Talismans MagAdjust * 2.1

you should deff lower str and dex a bit. If you were to drop them both down to 20, your caestus would do around 250 instead of 300. So you'd have another 25 points to invest in other things. For example, if you got your faith up to around 40, it would be worthwhile to use the darkmoon blade talisman, then with a plus +3 cov level, that attack would be devastating even with the lower initial AR

edit: it's around 50 faith where the dm talisman really shines

-also, get a second att slot for sunlight blade

How does the talisman adjustment multiple against the darkmoon rank. Would a 145 adjustment be 1.45 * darkmoonblade base?

Oh, and I would like to use legging with more poise, but I can't use anything that doesn't fit the pugilist build look. Tis a sad existence.

On Where to reposition stats, I don't want to focus too much on a one shot miracle. And I still want high damage for the Caestus even if it isn't enchanted. Though I don't know what else I would do with the stats.

More Vit seems excessive, and I really don't need more end, your end hardly goes down from punching.

Like I said, punching doesn't effect your end us much as any other weapon, so I don't need a ton. And I'm expecting with such a fragile build I won't have too many sustained swings. Although it would be helpful for dodging I suppose.

Again, my experience with my character is almost entirely invading in the forest, but I have to basically keep moving constantly. You can't get into a swinging contest, so you need to pick your actions very carefully.

the issue is that your range is really low, so to get shots in you'll have to trade and without poise, you'll probably be on the receiving end of punishment. for DMB, say your mag adj is 145, and you get a x2 for the cov it adds 145x2, or 290 AR to your weapon.

umm cleric armor leggings kinda fit though they make you look like a street brawler... and would solaires iron bracelets work? with both the cleric legs and the iron bracelets you get 59 poise with wolf ring... also your gonna want more end for dodging purposes.

I could maybe go with cleric leggings and priest top as sweats.

    I'll look like rocky. 8)

On the topic of Poise and End, I think I might scale back on the strength and dex for more endurance and faith. Although I still want a really high attack rating for my right hand caestus.

I actually just crunched the numbers, and taking off twenty points of str and dex and putting it into faith for the DMB actually gives lower total damage using the darkmoon Blade with the DM talisman, than just 30 faith and using the canvas talisman with higher base damage.

But a took a little off health, because it seemed to be getting excessive and threw a few more stats into END.

Here is what it looks like now: http://tinyurl.com/7jwg3qv

That with if I went with the "sweats" armor

Shouldn't you just pick a Cleric starting class if you're going for this build?

You start off the Canvas Talisman+I think you'd have a few extra levels to spread around.

Cleric and Warrior have the exact same stat breakdown, except the warrior gets one more INT (which I don't care about).

And I can pick up the talisman off Patches, I don't really care about the starting class other than I would rather use the longsword than the mace in the very beginning.
