Need help with weapon upgrades

Hey all,
I'm playing through Demon's Souls, but am running into issues finding the information I need for upgrading weapons. I currently have a Claymore +5. Is there a chart that tells me when I can start using dragon stones for fire damage? I'm making a faith build, but I more than likely won't utilize blessed-based weapons my first playthrough, because I'm trying to raise my END, VIT, and INT.

There are a lot of Dark Souls resources but I can't seem to find a chart or diagram that shows the upgrade path. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT: I fail at life.

Dragon upgrade starts at +3 (only available for hardstone upgraded weapons), meaning that a +5 can't be upgraded to dragon unless you revert it back to basic with a meltstone and then make it +3 again.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I figured out how to read the chart you linked. The only thing I'm wondering now is if I upgraded the wrong weapon. I have the claymore up to +5, but there are much better weapons out there.

Since you're a faith build, look up the large sword of moonlight and the Istarelle, they're your bet with faith based weapons if you don't want to use blessed equipment.

Or if you want, try the BLueblood sword, but you'll have to raise your luck to make it any real use to you.

Faith builds in demons souls is all about the health regeneration, since none of the miracles are any good for inflicting damage (gods wrath is too slow). A +5 blessed weapon will still have good damage at a low faith level, at least for the first playthrough.
A basic faith build is a two-handed blessd weapon (mirdan hammer, claymore, great axe), adjudicators shield on the back, and the regenerator's ring equipped. All items fully upgraded will regenerate 18HP every second.

Pop the regeneration miracle on with that, and it's even better since regeneration gives 1% health every second. So at 30 vitality which is 1100 health thats an extra 11hp a second.
