So we all know what humanity is and the various uses and ways to get it. I really feel that for such a vital item humanity, or the dark souls, does not have much of a purpose.
It's primary purpose is to basically say, "Ok, I'm willing to play multiplayer right now." Which is an important reason to have humanity as it will allow you to summon players to your world to fight beside you, but this also comes with the danger of being invaded, which is fine. But most players don't mind going solo, and you will collect enough humanity that if you are ever in a situation that you want to make a summon you can easily go human nearby and run and grab a summon then challenge the boss.
There simply seems to be a lack of importance behind humanity. There really isn't a good reason to have humanity even be a stacking feature where you can have more than one, because beyond being human it really isn't that important.
I feel as though From dropped the ball in making human form a much more powerful thing, something that you would be kicking yourself about losing your scrambling to get. Humanity in my opinion should have had more of a purpose that would really incentivize the player to use it and stay human.
It just would add a little more depth with the fact that humanity is actually worth something. I personally would have loved to see two possible things: needing to be human for pyromancy, sorcerery, or miracles, and needing to be human to interact with any NPCs.
If it was more plentiful, but really necessary for things such as those it would just be much more interesting. As it is right now once in awhile I'll look up at my humanity and see I have six or seven and think, "I hope I don't lose that," as an afterthought and then after I die twice I don't even notice.
Making it necessary to talk and use spells would just be interesting. Starting classes would probably need to start with a little extra humanity lying around here and there, and sorcerers, clerics and pyromancers would probably have to start with a little extra, but I think it would be very cool.
