small shields

whats the best small shield? other then the grass crest, im wanting a shield with 100% physical defence and well the other status have too be good as well

This is probably a topic for the dark souls general section. My personal favorite is the crest shield for its high magic defense, but it does have comparatively low fire and lightning defense.

I know that your looking for 100% physical defense, but if you can get by with 90% reduction, a maxed fire effigy shield has enormous fire and lightning resistance, with some magic resistance.

well im new too this site aye and yerr well im just looking for a really good small shield aye, atm im using both black and silver knights shields.

Some very dedicated people have put a lot of effort into updating all the stats for all of the shields, so it is quite comprehensive with post patch values that you can use to get a grasp on what shield you like.

welcome to the forums, the shields you mentioned are actually medium shields, try the heater shield(its a small shield) but if you want a good medium shield i'd go with crest/dragon combo and effigy shield. you got the best magic, fire and lightning res with those three(i know bk shield is better for fire but it weights twice as much which is why i dont use it and dragon crest looks so awesome and classy).

Doesn't the Effigy not have 100% phys reduction? I keep reading people singing its praises but I have to say I just don't understand the appeal. What is it that's so great about it? I'd genuinely like to know.

It has decent fire and lightning reduction, but it doesn't have the 100% phys red and it has terrible stability.

90% lightning reduction is more than decent

I'm guessing it's because it has higher lightning resistance than any shield of comparable weight, and lightning weapons tend to be popular in PvP. Also, if I'm not mistaken, light shields are easier to parry with.

well you cant tank with with it thats for sure, much like the rest of the med shields, i always make it fire becasue the stability kinda sucks, i like using it for parries and the res is awesome. the only bad thing about it is that it has a normal parry, i think it should have a fast parry since it's a light shield and all the other light shields have a fast parry.

It's got the slowest parry window of the light shields, with that it's on par with all the Medium shields but the heater shield, which has a fast parry.

I go back and Forth between the Crest Shield and Dragon Crest shield on depending the given scenario. In PvP I always wield my trusty crest shield because magic is so common.

A surprising choice many people miss is the wooden shield.

With 93% damage reduction it might as well be 100% with only a weight of 1.5

The only real downside is the stability, that when upgraded is decent enough.

The best small shield in my opinion is the Effigy shield. But small shields specialize in parrying, so the target shield is the best shield for parrying.
