Zweihander: As the name suggests, the weapon must be held with both hands

Yes, Zweihander literally means Two-Hander in German.

This is also the kind of game where you can two-hand a dagger and make it seem effective, so I wouldn't hold the conventions on handling too harshly

my conan toon only used it in both hands and it was the only thing he used the whole game. Another toon rocks out with dual zweihanders when in the mood, +5 lightnig in left and +5 chaos in right.... both ways are = good...

In real life yes, but mind you this is a game with Giant Wolves, gods, undead, dragons, and people who wear sacks on their heads.
By the way Mildred, when you said Conan I imagine the red haired fellow cleaving enemies in half.

But in "real" german you write it with "ä" -> Zweihänder (or Zweihaender)
Btw if the german word is used for the english version and not "Twohander" or something, why is "Longsword" used then and not "Langschwert"?
Lol Americans would probably be like "wth is a Langssskchhhwordt?"

Lol those 2 little spikes on the blade near the hilt are called "Parierhaken"? So it would make sense if this sword would actually be good to parry with? Btw I always wondered why you can't parry when you 2-hand a sword, why the hell did they use both the L1 and L2 button for blocking?
It would also make sense because if I'm not mistaking, Siegmeyer wields a Zweihander I think (?), and the Catarina Set's description says it's "very effective for parrying"...?
But Siegmeyer also has this shield wich cannot be used for parrying, so he's not able to parry you at all anyway? Or did he or Sieglinde ever parry someone of you somehow? :|
(Siegmeyer sounds kind of german to me btw :o)

What would be a cool mechanic is if for better thrusting attacks you could grip the cross guard and give yourself greater control with the sword while reducing the arcing and sweeping attacks, though I think that would be asking far too much of From.

- Spoiler:
- ...God this guy is unbelievable, I'd have no problem killing this... anyway...
Cross guard, is that how that thing on the blade is called? I don't really know for what it would be used for, but yeah, I also thought it's for more control when thrusting... Good idea actually.
But it seems to be called "Parierhaken" = parry hook (my loose translation )

Yep, the Zweihander has both in game, it actually reminds me more of a Claymore with how it looks due to this. To be fair also we complain it isn't called the Two Hander, but doesn't Katana just mean sword? So shouldn't those weapons just fall under the category, sword?

I just checked, it does indeed just mean sword haha.
I'm not entirely sure what more can be talked about in this topic.
Any ideas relating to the Zweihander?

It's swing speed should increase when 2-handed. (dunno if it actually does)

If you actually read up on swordsmanship near the end of the 15/16th centuries the actual blades of swords were only used for thrusting. Often swordsmen (unless dueling then a different sort of technique would come into play) would grip the sword by the hilt and lower part of the blade, using it to both block and thrust. When going on the offensive they would put both hands on the blade using the crossgaurd and the pommel to beat people. Larger swords such as claymores and greatswords were rarely held by the hilt alone. It would be nearly impossible to swing them with any control otherwise.
To make matters worse claymores and greatswords weren't even used on standard infantry under normal circumstances. They were used to take out horsemen. Their size and weight made them impractical for use against anyone wielding a longsword because the person could swing and thrust much faster. The claymore was however a compromise between the massive greatsword and the practical longsword, making it ideal for some battlefield situations where carrying 2 swords was not an option for solders.

The one they make only weighs 6 lbs and is made of 1050 carbon steel. Traditionally larger swords were made of iron and far outweighed this one. But its still kinda fun and if you have $500 bucks you can buy one of these guys.

Nice video errjohn. I have been wanting to add that sword to our family collection for awhile now.
@ darkson, its tons of fun, you should do it.
I have 6 swords at home. 2 'marto' broadswords(marto swords are great, go google them) 3 katanas(all razor sharp) and a cheap LoTRs knock off.... Then there are my bokken(wooden katana) and 2 shinai(bambo swords for kendo practice)
Then there is my knife collection.... Dont let me get started on that, the list is too big......
