The only disadvantage I can think of is being outnumbered by the host and phantoms.

Well you also have the disadvantage of invading a dude who is near the fog gate and invaded for nothing.
You can also invade a hacker's world or fail to invade.

Invaders can only show up in a few places, so if someone's expecting you (and they're ****), they might just hover near your spawn points. Or, best case, they probably know where you're coming from and what approaches you might take to reach them.
And of course, hosts get Estus and invaders get... well, items and miracles I guess, but they don't get estus like the host team does.

If you invade someone who enters the boss area, you get a slightly annoyed but you can just invade about ten seconds later.
As for hackers, let's assume that this is PvP before any hacker existed, because if you invade a hacker, then you just have a fake disadvantage.

Invader risk of actually losing anything like souls/humanity ranges from "none" to "minimal" at most. On the flip side, they're usually alone and often matched against someone significantly higher level that has help.

They have time to prepare and set up a trap for you, so you might be spawning into a trap, or roaming around their world and about to enter one. Also, you can only heal with Humanity or Divine Blessings. While the invader needs to search for the host, the host can sit and wait for the invader. The invader is also easier to spot, as an invader is glowing red or blue while the host can use hidden body or fog ring and blend in with the backround

OP is talking random invasions not coven types but you are right there spark.sparkly-twinkly-lizard wrote:invading hosts who are hundreds of levels above you with every spell in the book.
Bottom line is with the gankers and griefers, invasions suck. Most people say invaders ARE the disadvantage but not alot would agree that some invaders do get owned.
Should add hackers and modders with the gankers part of my comment

Most advantages are listed above, but I'd like to point that invaders can make good use of the mobs and traps in the area! Its much easier to wander around without being harmed or surprised by anything, unless you can't see those huge glowing white/gold phantom auras!
I believe the invasion basic idea is: host + phantoms VS invader + scenario. Of course, in the case of a darkwraith, the host is high level, being much more difficult to kill, but rewarding.
