    The best attacks of the regular sword nd shield guy aren't in the assassin class either which was a let down.. charge, shield back.. was there a counter too?

    People raved about assassin, but all the moves and abilities were a complete farce and just a roleplay gimmick
    Assassins do have shields,you just choose between it and a bow.And our counters are very powerful.You can use bomb traps,stealth,parries,lunges and stuff like that.They actually do more damage than fighters and even warriors at high levels.They have the highest strength gain per level of any class in the game.

    Mystic knight is my fave by far, it's just got the coolest moves hands down.

    I found it very dull.Not as bad as the mages types though,worst classes ever.Sitting back and waiting for spells to charge requires zero skill and almost zero input.Magic is very boring in that game.
    I prefer the hybrids over all.

    Magics when cast, things like bolide and such, feels pretty awesome to cast them. But as you said, it takes no real effort.

    I've seen so many explosions that I'm just not dazzled by colours anymore.It's the inactivity that kills it for me,I'd rather be more like an MMO mage and have to alternate spells and rotate them properly while each spell is on cooldown while managing my mana.At least you have to pay attention then.

    I'd rather have magic on any given roleplaying game, it just makes things more fun.

    Would you rather just have a giant sword, or a guy with a giant sword, giant bow and ability to make fire ans shoot lightning at people? Seriously lol!

    I like when people does not rely on an outside force in the form of magic, rather using pure skill to overcome problems.

    ....Arguably using magic is also a skill. I admit it's much easier, but it's still a skill nethertheless.

    Tying a tie is a skill, though very easy you need to learn how to do it effectively

    Anyway I don't care about being sadistic on myself- all about having the most fun. And firing off 3 different kinds of magic and using awesome looking weapons is the way to do that winking

    IMO, magic should be used as an augment to your playstyle, not something that can be fully relied on.

    Why play a fantasy RPG if you wanna do plain sword fighting? Go play chivalry or war of the roses or something like that :razz:

    I do feel though that there is this rather unfair elitist view that if you are a mage you MUST have an inferior skill level, and if you beat a melee only with a mage it's not as valuable as doing so with melee characters.. But i guess you get that on a site like this Shrug

    My opinion on that was that magic on some games were/are OP and viewed that if you use it you are inferior.

    Hmm... After thinking a little I guess you are right... I do not think those playing as a mage is less skillful, just a different kind of skill. And in universe it´s the same, different set of skill.

    I can be awesome at typing on a keyboard, but i´ll still suck at hand writing.

    Teh- thing is though as with your methods of writing though- they both get the job done in a fair and just way, so what's the issue?

    It's like looking down on someone for using a better shampoo than you as it's 'easier' to get nicer hair with it :razz:

    There is no game in history where magic is balanced.
    It is either too good or too weak. And if you can give me an example of a game where it is balanced, I will prove to you that there are ways of making it extremely overpowered.

    I can change my opinions easily, but saying that you support balanced magic is an empty statement that CAN NOT be backed up. Ever. Magic can not be balanced in a game whatsoever. There will ALWAYS be a way to make it overpowered, and even underpowered magic can be exploited for unbalanced use.

    As you may understand, I think all kinds of play styles are just as fair, that´s why I accept the **** I get when playing and never give **** myself.

    Looking down on someone is something I would never though. It´s all up to the individual and if someone enjoys using for example magic good for them, I cannot do it and I think they are good for being able to do something i´ve yet to master.

    Everything in every game can be exploited to be OP

    BS and Dead angling are completely broken and the latter is pretty much a glitch/fault of game mechanics yet everyone views it as completely justified legit skill Shrug

    I feel the magic in most final fantasies is pretty dead on.
    Legend of dragoon magic was very sparse, but powerful which balanced it
    I think dragon's dogma did pretty well too.
    Dark souls magic is balanced too (Don't give that pvp crap, it was designed for PvE and works excellently to that, end of story)

    In dragons dogma is just to boring for me. And Magic archer just did not work for me... I tried but just did not enjoy the homing thing, a little thing i just disliked.
