Pyromancy? No Problem. Empty Pyromancy? No Problem.

Post by Satoshi Sat Apr 27, 2013 11:54 pm

I was in the forest, taking a break from my challenge run, when suddenly, two Forest Hunters invade. I was looking for a 2v1, so I was glad. They immediately started running towards the cliff, clearly wanting me to fall off. Once I caught up to them, the first invader, who had Havel's armor and greatshield, with an Uchigatana buffed with CMW, tried Backstabbing me but ultimately failed with a well-timed parry. I was using my Black Knight armor and shield with a BKGS and OHKO while two-handing the riposte.

The second invader, sporting the exact same armor, shield, and weapon decided to attack me. They started spamming pyromancy left and right. First the fireballs, then the combustions. I eventually got bored of it and kept kicking them, eventually booting them off the cliff. I quickly got a barrage of messages basically calling me a hacker, cheater, etc.

I just sent him a message about the Black Knight armor and shield being good against fire, but he didn't believe me. I got multiple voice mails of him screaming and yelling. I honestly ignored him. Ironically, those same two people invaded me and the same strategy was used, except as soon as the first one died, the second one ran. After a dreadfully long pursuit, I caught up and got a great backstab on him.

Once again, I got a barrage of voice mails of him screaming.

So...anyone have any funny stories about pvp?

My thoughts exactly. I didn't feel like angering him more, so I left the forest and went back to the challenge run.

When I first started playing Dark Souls, I found the Forest Hunter covenant, and per usual with my first play-throughs of RPG's, I don't look at wiki's or walkthroughs or spoilers(So you can guess how long it took me to beat the game). But anyways, this meant that I had no idea what would happen in the forest. I put on the ring and invade a couple of time, usually getting owned because I only used a tiny +2 lightning spear. But I also used pyromancy. So around my sixth invasion, I invade two guys farming invaders, and they are battling a Darkwraith. Host was a speedy archer, phantom was a tanky cleric, and Darkwraith had a halberd. The Darkwraith started losing, so he began to run. Towards me. My first reaction? Fire Tempest. I got it early by killing Quelana. The Darkwraith plans on back stabbing me while I am doing this, and the other two are right in front of me. I killed them all with it. Got over 600,000 souls on a level 45 character. Of course, I achieved much more impressive things later on in Dark Souls pvp, but I was a low leveled noob at the time who barely understood pvp, so it was pretty memorable.

Fighting gankers are fun but fighting try-hards are absolutely hilarious.

They bow like they're going to fight you to the death, run away to monsters when they're about to die to heal, come back and fight you again, run and heal again, rinse and repeat. Some of them even try so hard as to change their equipment several times but still get their asses kicked and run away for a heal then revert back to their first equipment setup.
It's really funny when they don't manage to run away quick enough on the 10th time and finally die. I bow to their fading corpse while chuckling to myself. Never got a single hatemail from any of these try-hards. I guess their hatred for me just can't compare to their embarrassment and frustration at themselves. So satisfying big grin

P.S. I am not a nice person Shrug

Yes...I fill my wine glasses with delicious tears...now for another story.

I joined the Forest Hunters temporarily to see what it was like. I was voice chatting with my friend about who my first invasion might be. As I was invading, I told my friend that I am going to be able to fight someone. I was excited, but was quickly told by my friend, "Hey, somebody with your name is invading me." I noticed his name at the bottom of my screen. We both started laughing really hard, I started to say in between laughs, "wow, what luck." Once we stopped, as per our agreement, we can use buffs freely, but only before emoting, anything after is free game.

I immediately went for my Green Blossoms, yet he did the same. He was wearing the Black Iron set and greatshield while using the BKGA. I was using Ornstein's set, no shield, dual wielding Dark Swords. He decided to Praise the Sun. I beckoned afterwards, taunting him. He swung at me which I dodged by rolling backwards. I quickly hit him with my off-hand weapon before back stepping. He seemed to want be to go towards him, I could tell because of his near idle attitude.

He seemed to have learned and grown from our other battles, his strategy used to be rush into combat slashing like a madman; now, he is very cool and collected. I cautiously went up to him and went for one attack. He swapped his greatshield out and pulled out the DGA in his off-hand and backstepped to quickly get a follow-up attack and deal some damage. I was more nervous than usual, mainly because he was a lot stronger than his old self. He used to always use Golden Pine Resin, so I chose Ornstein's set this time. My heart was beating really hard, half from excitement, half from my blood disease.

He made a large arcing swing at me, which I barely dodged by rolling to my left. As I ran towards him, I changed weapons to the Ascended Flame and the Dragonslayer Spear. I went for two thrusts, both hit and I quickly rolled backwards many times to create distance. I started charging up the Great Fireball as he sprinted towards me. I threw the searing crimson flame at him, hoping for it to strike true. He swapped out to the greatshield and blocked it like it was literally nothing.

I started strafing around him carefully, blinded by the item menu that blocked my view. I quickly switched out some items, and exited the menu. Just as I could see again, he went for an overhead chop attack which I took the full force of. I recovered and switched to the Sunlight Talisman. I raised my hand above my head as a crackling spear of electricity appeared in my hand. I struck him dead center and we both barely had any health left.

I went for the final stand, we both two-handed our weapons, his Black Knight Greataxe, and my Dragonslayer Spear. We both ran at each other, he swung his greataxe as hard as he could, and I started to pierce through his armor with my spear. We both fell on our knees and died, just as we passed each other.

Okay this I found funny and also bitter sweet. The hatemail is funny due to the invader refusing to listen to logic and fact, however it is bad that this shows the immaturity of our xbox side. It doesn't bother me personally but it makes wonder is this how some people think of the xbox community.

Well, it's typically human nature to look on the negatives to fix them instead of the positives. The thing that people cannot see though that these are other humans with emotions, just like them. When people keep saying stuff about how the community is terrible, it just makes the person who said that look bad, chiefly due to them not knowing what true emotion is and what can and cannot grasp the feelings of anger, sadness, and even failure. It can be hard to accept, but no one is perfect. I know that is said a lot, but it is true. Emotions are strengths, but in someone else's eye, if they see someone get angry, they view it as a weakness. Whereas if the emotion of anger was not present, many people would live incomplete lives. People can just be hypocrites about another community where they are the exact same.

TLDR: People focus on negatives, no one is perfect, emotion is strength no matter what, many people view "bad" emotions as weakness, and just about all people are hypocritical.

Yeah that is true in many ways. People tend to focus too hard on the bad and ignore the good. Still to ignore the facts you told the second invader is ignorance on his part.

I honestly decided that if someone starts screaming, to ignore them until they calm down. I actually talked to him for a while after he cooled off. He turned out to be really nice, but is just very quick tempered. I explained to him the traits of the armor and shield and where to get it. When he got the set, I could hear his palm hit his face. We had a nice chat, until he started hitting on me. I tend to not voice chat solely for the reason of, even though a male, I am extremely feminine because of genetics.

One thing I noticed is how civil a person can be if show civility yourself. I met a hacker once and we fought over how cheap a hack thing is when I have a phantom. After a bit and when I wanted to chat he turned out nice and his reasons did make sense after the whole chances of finding gank hackers. He was nice and I gave him tips for the 4 kings he had to help a friend face.

Also that hitting on you thing, that was because of your name isn't it? I been well gendered confused before. It was weird.

I rarely come by the player who will never calm down and stop holding pointless grudges, but I always show civility, no matter what. I met a person who got angry at me so I went offline for a couple days, and when I wen back online, he invaded me in a 2v1, and when he beat me, I simply told him "Nice match." He replied with a series of profanity and gloating comments, even though I've tried being civil, some people don't listen.

And about the gender thing, Satoshi is a male name...and my real one...but by genetics, my appearance and voice was so feminine...I am often mistaken for a teenage girl. It is really frustrating.

My thing with civility: No matter what happens always bow to a person. I solo test myself in the forest a lot and I get a lot of duels there from bowing to invaders. Most don't talk but the ones that do are generally nice. Even if I use a chaos blade which some hate.

I should have known that your name was a male one. Japanese right? I haven't studied that enough to tell. Then again I have been told I have a feminine side so I tend to understand what you mean a bit. I think it is best to leave this part out of the conversation for a while.

Story takes place about 2-4 weeks after release....

The forest used to be rife with purple dragons spitting poison knives at you....its the reason I stayed. twisted

In the beginning (<--lol), EVERYONE hated the forest. Vets called it "Scumland". I loved it.

So after some honorable 1 on 1's and some pretty decent 2 vs 2's...I see my first "dragonbro" of the night. I was ready this time. For anyone who wasn't around, zigging and zagging were of extreme importance. If you got caught in the "spit" it was over.

He's spitting and I'm dodging. Ducking behind trees slowly pursuing him. As he runs out of knives, I see the Stone Greatsword come out and run for it because of the inevitable TWoDeath.

I time it perfect (TWoP lasted A LOT longer back then) and chainstab him to the edge and kicked him off.

It was my first victory against the purple dragon monstrosities....I'll never forget it. sad

When it's a 1v1, I bow, but 2v1, I do not bow, chiefly due to the easy chain stabs. I have never used the Chaos Blade, only the Uchigatana, and I didn't like it too much. I prefer straight swords, greatswords, and ultra greatswords.

It is Japanese, and that will end this part of the conversation.

I want to ask once again though, does anyone have any stories about any great pvp matches? We all would like to read them.
