    Whip build Empty Whip build

Post by Dutchy Sun Apr 14, 2013 9:58 am

Hey y'all. I started out with my first structured build being a whip one. And I absolutely sucked with it. Now that i've practiced up a bit, I would like to try one again. I love their moveset but I really couldn't use them before. Does anyone have any protips? I like their 2H R1 for it's dead angle and backstab halt capabilities, but is their any secret use? Also, what do you think of the build? https://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/?c=472684312325584966 Cheers

Some things I can tell you that you should probably know before trying it:
Whip is stronger than Notched as you know, and although Notched has the bleed, it takes 10+ hits to actually get the bleed to get out, due to the fact that the hit boxes on whips are garbage. This makes whip a better choice than notched in almost all circumstances.
As you said, the 2H R1 has a good dead angle for backstabbers, and can cause the glitch where you go through the animation but take no damage.
Don't use any split damage whips, especially with 37 DEX. Whips have great scaling for DEX, and going split damage deprives them of all their capabilities.
A cool trick is the rolling R1, the tracking on it is superb compared to its normal moveset, and even a few other weapons.

Notched has bleed, which in my experience, brings psychological stress onto the person being bled. It makes them careless, and more prone to mistakes, I have found. Not sure if you have ever had the same results.

The hit ratio on the Notched Whip compared to its bleed build up just isn't enough to apply pressure unless you're fighting someone with little armor or you are using it at a very low level. Since you miss 4/5 of your main attacks, it can take 15+ hits just to get one bleed.

I didn't look at it that way. Been too used to using my Lifehunt Scythe build on people, it can wreck, since I have nearly over 800 bleed resistance.

also why bother thinking about what and how and if my weapon can do X in Y if you slap a 50fth buff on it and 2shot the opponent no matter what the weapon choice is...if you want to talk about a whip build i'll gladly join you. this is not it, sry...

I have a SL10 Indiana Johns Whip-wielding toon, mainly just for PvE but sometimes a low level cosplay invade is fun. Like they said, the roll R1 is a pretty straight shot and hits most of the times. it has a 20 poise damage, so even if they have a shield up after 4-5 hits they open up (Anor Londo). It's a really fun build.
Not sure if this will be helpful though.

The whip has better tracking in the left hand than the right hand.
