Also, I've seen a few members join just to promote their shield. For the record, I'm completely cool with this. We all joined for some reason so this is just as valid. I would however, like to extend the invitation to the rest of the forum. We have a great community that's worth exploring.

Lol. Shielders is just my term for the several new members we have that are the result of shield design promotion. You don't need a shield to be cool Pendant, you're good

I don't know, to be honest it does kinda bother me skare, hopefully they stick around and become part of the community instead of just coming here just for votes.

I would be bothered but I might be jaded by seeing so many "please give me this" threads in the help section from one time posters. Also, I came here because I wanted help testing for a rare 8th prism stone color (anytime I mention this I must also say "Thanks Rynoa") and wasn't sure I'd stick around. A gazillion posts later and going strong. If we get even one new active member I'd say it's a success. At the very least, maybe they'll remember to vote for us too

If we get none then I shall personally cuss them out in this thread.


EDIT: From a slur perspective, the term "Shielders" can become a positive or negative label......

So, believe it or not, but more than for votes I came here for some critical feedback, since I still have one slot available and I thought it might be a good idea to ask other fans what they think so far in order to consider the feedback for my final design (this is more true for my Skull Shield than my Lotus... sicne, yeah, it basically sucks ).

Since I'm pretty bad with Gimp/Photoshop and all these fancy tools around (actually, I work with Flash ...) I wondered if others even recognize what I wanted to do with the Skull Shield

The Tally Shield is awesome, it just hits the tone of DS in my opinion, I also like "Strife", but more because of the execution than the actual design.

Anyway, taking a look at all the designs out there, I think that there are some very talented designers, but definitely more talented tool users (great use of textures, lighting, and stuff).

I actually LOVE the idea of the bee comb shield, thinking in terms of gameplay, wouldn't it be cool if the shield actually contains bees and the more hits you block, the more likely it is that the bees come out and attack your opponent (From would never implement that, but I like the idea ).

Btw... for my last design I play around with some steampunk-like designs... but I'm not sure if this fits in the DS universe... and if there are already some shields heading in that direction... have you seen such designs already? What do you think of that idea?

Ghost, I haven't seen anything I would label as Steampunk but then again it's not a theme I'm intimately familiar with. Always seemed like a mix of industrial and emo trends (I say neither of those out of spite or ridicule, just conceptually how I see it). I'd have to see concept art to give you feedback and at that point it would be more, this is cool that could use ___

Also, to me the Skull Shield looked like a tribute to the skellie dogs in the ToG.

sigh, no facebook can't see or upvote anything, but i really dislike fb and stuff like that so i'll just deal with it...

Amos, is the watermark "By the sword" part of the design or part of the texture? Looks a bit weird to me. But I like the overall design, good mix of wood and metal!

Thanks for the feedback Yeah, the skull somewhat looks like them, right, wasn't intended, but I liked it in the end... I wanted to do a petrified skull, so the main part of the shield is a heavy stone plate with sharp edges. I had to somewhat "cancel" the edges since the design wasn't accepted without a perfectly round border...

So you're the one who stole my oroboros idea! Just kidding, already voted for it! Is it made of marble? I wonder how it would look if only the snake is made of white marble and the shield has a dark base color, maybe with light highlights (a very dark marble, if you will)...

Ehm, can anyone explain to me what this whole ENB tribute / pig shield thing is, I really have no idea what you are talking about... I just wondered why that's ranked #1, though it is a decent design.

You can do three designs but they're supposed to all be of your region's template. Since I'm in the US, I'm supposed to do greatshields.


Ghost, while I really like the expertise it took to design that shield, it's not very high on my list of "ones I like." The user has a big following, and thus it's in the lead.
