    Advice/Rant

Post by EeAyEss on Mon Mar 25, 2013 12:27 am

In light of Emergence's new rule, I will not be singling this thread out as a hate/vent thread, but as a advice thread instead.

I loathe, from the bottom of my hollowed heart, the DWGR. The I-frames are nigh-on ridiculous, and that's not counting lag. The way those slippery... fellows... use it is highly irritating to fight against. Constantly flipping around like some sort of wannabe ninja kid on speed, flipping in and striking or roll-bsing. I swear, sometimes they roll-bs by counter attack to the predicted roll-bs. They flip behind me, I predict it and have sarted to swing my weapon, then they flip behind me AGAIN and bs me.

    WHY?

I also loathe magic, for two main reasons:

    1st.
I just prefer my cold steel versus namby-pamby magic. It's just preference.

    2nd.
It takes advantage of lag more so, in my opinion, than melee weapons. Due to the fact that crystal soul spears and Dark Beads typically will either halve your health or worse, they are balanced out by being easy to dodge. Add lag, and you get, in a worse-case cenario, magic that kills you in your i-frames. It's ridiculous.
I was fighting this dude who was a slippery wannabe ninja with a MBH who was spamming the db. So I roll, and he fires one off during my i-frames. I recover from my roll and lose half of my health. I then decide to do a running attack, to catch him off-guard, and it succeeds in interrupting his 6th cast of db. However, as he staggers, db fires anyway, though I nailed him before his hand went up.

    AGH!

    inb4 Emergence mod-lock.

Any tips on fighting the DWGR and laggy magic?
I know it's just prediction when it comes to lag, but I need practice. Also, my dodging skills are just not great. They're above-average, to be sure, but they definitely need work.

Strong Magic Shield and the DWGR are the only real counters outside of "perfect dodge" imo.

I know, but, once again, I loathe both magic and DWGR, so I don't use them.

I comprehend the power of the almighty SMS. Especially on a crest shield.

Spears LMAO. Seriously. Or BS fish, try luring them into a roll bs and go for the bs instead, give them their own medicine. Melee only is boring tbh, my mage uses sorcery + DWGR btw lol.

I haven't a spear yet, and I was going to invest in one. My problem is, I see them as top-class "easy mode" weapons. So I try not to use them. Same with katanas. I'll dable with them for a couple fights, then go back to my flamberge/G. Halberd/Broadsword whatever.

I'm ok with people using whatever they want. I'm just expressing my distaste of fighting them.

If they're a hit and flip DWGR user, spam R1 at crazy angles so it makes you too dangerous to approach. No kidding. Pull out a weapon that would guarantee you to win a trade.

If they're only roll-BSing, pivot parry or don't give up your back at all. Let them make a mistake first.

ahhh, the dwgr, even more op now that few people use it, with roll bs'ers(about 99% of people that use the dwgr now) the best strategy is do NOTHING, they will get impatient since they want that roll bs(of course) and make mistakes like attacking first and letting their guard down since they didnt get a ro bs within 30 seconds, when they go in for an attack either stunlock them, or stun bs them or poise bs them since they deserve it for beign to boring to fight. im with you on the magic thing, specialy dark bead, for some reason it is SO laggy and hits me a second after i dodged it(no matter what side) very few times do i dodge it and not take damage, might just be me but apparently a lot of people have the same problem which now i just dont care, if i die i just brush it off since there's nothing i can do about lag.

I actually went up against a DWGR abuser today. I killed him by spamming 24 dark beads at him. The very last casting did him in lol.

But anyway for melee, I try and lure them against a wall or object where I can actually get in close and hit them with a fast strike weapon. It usually cuts through their roll anyway.
Also as its been said, I do nothing and wait for the to come and attack me. A murakumo has also worked pretty well for me. I just unlock and wait until they get close and then let the dead angling do its thang.

there are alot of people that feel that way (myself included) toward katanas and other spamable weapons. what i tend to do is get good at weapon swaping. i see someone invade thats spaming katana or gold tracer or flamberge (with a buff, cuz duh, whyelse would u use a weapon that swings that fast without a buff), i switch to a spear to keep my distance. every weapon has a weakness.

dont choose 1 build that maxes 1 weapon or you will continuously loose to its counterpart. choose a build that can use (but maybe not max) a multitude of weapons (or atleast a coupple) to deal with different situations.

There's something written by Jerp, if you're familiar with him, that explains the lag regarding Dark Magic. Maybe this can help you to deal with them. =)

Personally, i've been using Martyr's unlocked dodging tactic of escaping dark magic and its been working out really well for me.

well.. it sounds like you're facing opponents that have put a lot of time and planning into their build to get that dwgr on. maybe you should start there.

tips are great, but the best is going to be actual experience vs them.

and if magic and dwgr's are an issue for you consider making or finding a fight club on this very forum that has rules against that rather than ranting about it.

Is this an earnest request for advice, because you seem to know the answers already but refuse to make the compromises necessary to adopt them out of "loathing". Otherwise I am just reading this as yet another whine thread and a subversive one at that, and that annoys me.

And you really don't help your cause by calling out me by name.

Of course there's GMB but the investment is.... :Baal01:

I'll just say one more time that SMS is a beast and only requires 15 int.

I guess there's bows. If you incorporate them with the DWGR (which you dont have to), they can be deadly.

I can also say the biggest problems I have with my casters are Hornet Ring flippers. They either have a knife or rapier and are dodging masters. They dont let up on the pressure, my combos only hit maybe 25% of the time if at all, and they always find a way to get to my back.

If I'd use the CoD, BDCR, or the TCC some of those battles might change, but oh well.

I suggest reframing the situation to allow your loathing a different perspective on the topic. That way, you can look at it fresh and find some solution.

Specifically, what I'm suggesting is that we start saying "handspring" since it doesn't make you flip.

Now, trying to beat people just doing handsprings doesn't sound anywhere near as tough so this allows us to take a deep breath and look again.

My personal advice as a Great Scythe user is that you can often beat their timing with ridiculously wide angle of attacks. Learn to swipe twice at the right timing and when they pop out of the handspring animation they will get caught with the second hit.

My experience with DWGR has helped me learn that the i-frames arent perfect.

What I do is rush them and wait 4 them to dodge and then immediately do a running attack. My success rate is about 2 out of 3 which I think is pretty good considering how difficult DWGR is to counter. But it is counterable, you just have to keep trying. Apply pressure and never let up. In fact it helps to steadily increase then decrease then increase the amount of pressure you apply in order to keep them guessing.
