How did you kill Gwyn?

I just kept luring him into awkward rock formations for a quick slap with the Arty greatsword. Used Havel's gear and child mask, cos I'm that cool.

He still managed to grab me like 6 times though. Never saw the bloody thing coming.

I played offline on my first playthrough. my character used a divine claymore +9 a black knight shield the mask of the child and the silver knight armor. i only learned that you could parry gwyn when i saw an enb vid when he did it and i was surprised as hell. i fought gwyn like a man and dies countless times. having built faith builds in demons souls was a great help on my first darksouls playthrough

And that iron armor just looked so good...

So it seems that most people just toughed it out with heavy armor how naive we were.

Agreed, I'll parry if I'm in a hurry or helping a host, but if I'm in the mood for an epic duel...masochist mode!

Parrying is the easiest strategy, yet it's still (in my opinion) extremely hard, compared to other to other bosses, in NG+, it's even worse, as Gwyn is by then stronger and faster than pretty much any boss, one miss and i'm dead, either because i have light armor to dodge and get stunlocked, or have heavy armor to tank him and get grabbed

When i try to not parry, i can usually land a single Zweihander hit, for barely 400 damage, before dying

Hell, i can't think of any boss that is harder, others are tedious, but not really hard, Manus, Kalameet, 4 Kings, O&S. but Gwyn, even if you know his moveset, he could easily kick your shield away and stab you through the pillar for a 1-shot, or do his 1-hand slash before you can react

I was mad when they nerfed Iron Flesh. That was the ultimate defense against almost everything, but the O + S part of the video is misleading. Even the pre-nerf Iron Flesh wasn't good against them.

Also, the first time I defeated Gwyn I used Iron Flesh because I didn't patch my game yet. All the other times I summoned help.

On my first playthrough I didn't even know what parry was...

Oh the horror of fighting Gwyn. *sob*

Just curious, did anyone try using magic, specifically sorceries and miracles?

I knew WoTG and some others, but I never used them. Could never get the timing right to be far enough to cast but close enough for them to hit.

I didn't use easy tactics to kill him, I wanted to pay him respect and honor his death by clashing swords in midst of battle

My first playthrough was a low poise (didn't know its mechanics) mid roll with like 60 strength lol.

I used flash sweat and hid around that one big rock that most of us used as a shield our first times against him. Being low poise using ultra great weps was a TOUGH bout for me.

Eventually, I maxed out full tattered with flame stone plate and favor rings with flash sweat doing mainly JUMP attacks 2 handed.

I went thru all 20 flasks during my win against him as well as a few humanity.

...Then in new game plus for some reason I began parrying in pve. Gwynn hasn't been seen since.

I didn't fight him until a technically second playthrough of the game, save game got corrupted right when I reached the end. Ended up going against him in Dragon form, with Lifehunt Scythe and summoned Solaire. Was going to strike fear into his heart, try to parry him (I already heard you could do it by this point), and I simply had Solaire there because I wanted him to succeed Gwyn in my place.

Of course, none of that mattered. He focused on Solaire so I couldn't parry him, and I ended up killing him with repeated uses of G Combustion on a max Ascended Flame. Really depressing when Gwyn stops being threatening and starts dancing left and right.

Sunlight Spears are the way to go.

I'll be a man and admit this.

Gwyn is the only boss I haven't killed solo and I'm on like my twelfth playthrough.

Could just never beat him without a summon, hardest boss for me.

Without parrying, he is definitely one of the harder bosses. You might as well be fighting Manus if you fight Gwyn without parrying; both are quick, do a lot of damage, and move around fast enough to make slow attacks next to impossible.

It's easy to see why so many of us had to use heavy armor and OP weapons to kill him on our first run.

This is why the DLC bosses are much fun, they have the same agro as Gwyn.

Manus is much slower than Gwyn

Not quite, gwyn is just smaller so he looks faster and is more agile, they both move at about the same speed. If gwyn were the size of manus instead of a man, he'd be a lot easier since there'd be more to slice up.

I remember reading once that when the last boss is the size of you, you know sh-- is about to go down. So true.
