Yes/no. After his death you have 2 options, touching the bonfire and leaving the area. After one of those options you are pushed into the next game.

I would recommend (assuming you haven't already killed him) murdering every NPC in-game first for the humanity and loot. Also fighting any bosses you missed, Stray Demon nets you a titanite slab, and maybe farming certain places first. Of course, this is redundant if you killed him already.
