Homing Crystal Soulmass against Four Kings?

I've had a few attempts against the Four Kings and not got the better of them yet. Reading up on the forums I've seen a few people mention using Homing Crystal Soulmass against them. But is it actually possible to get this spell before fighting them on NG? From what I can tell from the wiki, Big Hat Logan will only sell this spell once you've met him in the Duke's archives, which I think you can only get to after defeating the Four Kings. Is this right?

You can go to the archive after placing the LordVessel.
If you already did that, you have acces to the archives.

You can free Logan from Sen's Fortress and Seath's prison. Meet with him in Duke's Library and he will sell you CSM and Crystal Soul Spear.

Then you can go against the Four Kings. When I go against them as a mage, I cast CSM as a backup defense. Stay out of the swing range of the Four Kings and cast your ranged attacks. If a King gets too close to you, the CSM will fire dealing some damage against them. Back off, recast CSM and continue casting your ranged attacks.

That's great, thanks guys. I have placed the Lordvessel but hadn't realised that the path to the archives is now open. Will give that a go tonight.

HCS is a got spell for the four kings but i think you wont have enough casts for the four so don't rely on it only. If you have enough slots cast CSS and the other spells you can just walk backwards and cast all your spells.^^ If not you'll have your close range weapon and HCS of course.
You can also do this fight before the end boss. It should be the easiest way then.

From my brief experience as a spellsword, I suggest getting the stats to wield the Moonlight Greatsword, grab Havel's gear and tank those hits. With almost base vital and endurance and a +5 MLGS and 40 int, the kings drop pretty quickly.

Thanks again for the advice. In the end I beat the Kings last night, after several attempts, mostly at close range with my Lightning Claymore +5, wearing Havel's armour, the ring of favour and protection, and with the ordinary homing soulmass for backup and a couple of soul spears thrown in there. It was a great fun fight and very satisfying once defeated! On to the Duke's archives...

Also Dark Bead destroys them. So if yo have a chance to get that spell, do it. Have fun.
