Video recording devices?

Anyone know any equipment I could use to record my gameplay on xbox? It's the first time I've ever even thought of this so I'm completely clueless.

Cheap/free would be preferable. Audio is optional. Simplicity is necessary.

And if you're curious this will be for documenting/sharing my ultimate test build.

I personally use a Hauppauge PVR. But I got it a few years back so its model is probably dated. I got it for around 200 bucks at the time.

There're better things out there though. You just have to look. Unfortunately the one friend I have that's really into recording is super annoying so I can't say what he uses.

You won't find anything free unless a friend gifts you a device. The "decent" ones are not that cheap, sadly.

A steady hand and your phone for the free version.

Don't see any cheap options, hauupage seems to be the best, give ebay a try if you want any chance of getting it cheapish. Or try to get an older version without hdmi.

Yeah, you're not going to get anything worthwhile without shelling out money. As someone already mentioned, Hauppauge has a good HD PVR that costs around 200 bucks. There are other HD PVR's that cost less, and if you're not that concerned about quality there are PVR's that don't record in HD that are probably cheaper, though none come to mind.

I use my iphone which can be surprisingloy good at times and rubbish at others depending on its automatic zoom differential. And its free!
I am considering getting a proper setup but want a 48 inch telly first. Just for Dark Souls. In my room.

Just looking if it's a PC you're using, you can get a pci capture card for almost a 3rd of the price but the quality won't be exactly 720P.

This might be of interest to you. It's certainly not cheap, but it's cheaper than a Hauppauge.
