Significance of occult upgrade?

So I'm considering the occult upgrade path on my faith build mainly for the damage, but I was wondering if occult weapons have any significance next to lore wise(the whole God killer thing)

Essentially I'm wondering if I can make a Gwyn bane.

I've never taken a good look into the whole occult modifier thing, so i don't know how high you can get it by simply upgrading an occult path weapon. There are special weapons with rather high modefiers for divine, so you'd think there are ones in occult too. So a high modifier would essentially be a Gwyn's bane.
And for the record, by modifier i mean the little 110/120/etc stat that occult weapons have. 110 means it does 110% damage to the right kinds of enemies, so 10% more than to other enemies.

Yeah, I know Occult weapons can have a relatively high occult modifier. Lemme rephrase my question: Do you think "god" characters are greatly affected by occult damage or is it a case of story and gameplay separation?

Ah your question wasn't completely clear. Gwyn and Gwyndolin are fully influenced by the occult modifier, so yes god characters will die a lot easier to occult weapons.

I apologize, I often run around circles and come up with convoluted explanations for simple questions.
