    Dragon Kings Great Axe question

Post by clyde24 on Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:35 pm

I've been playing Dark Souls for a few weeks now, and I just obtained the Dragon Kings Great Axe from the Gaping Dragon. I was excited about this until I saw that the Strength requirement for it is 50. I think my character's Strength is currently 16.

Is it worth it to spend the massive number of souls it will require to get my strength to 50 just to use this weapon? I've read that the only stats that should be increased are Vitality and Endurance, so maybe increasing Strength would be a waste.

I don't understand why this game rewards the player with weapons that they can't use.

Any opinions on this would be appreciated.

Not really. The only good thing about the Dragon Kings Great Axe is the 360 degree shockwave pound (using the two-handed R2).

Where did you read that! vit/end builds are stink. Str/dex/faith/inte are all good to put up based on what you want to do with your build.

    20 Vitality ftw!
I haven't used it yet so I can't help you. But with that much str you can use whatever you want and get good scaling.

You definitely didn't get that Vit/ End tip here! All stats have their purpose (except Res...) and all should be leveled. Not necessarily on the same character, though! That's what you have multiple slots for...

Anyways, about the axe: you can level your Str to 34 and use it 2-handed.

Dragon King Greataxe is honestly only going to be good if you're doing a low-level build (nothing higher than level 50ish I'd guess) due to the lack of scaling but great base damages. If you base it on two-handing the weapon though, you only need to reach 34 strength, and can still invest in a good deal of survivability even at these low-mid levels. That said, in those level ranges, it (and the Dragon Greatsword) are exceptional weapons with great damage and added utility because of their special attacks, just be sure to invest in some repair powder from the Undead Merchant in the Burg so you can use the specials liberally.

Not bad for SL24! The actual lowest possible SL you can wield it at is with a Pyro, making it SL23. But he has less Vit and End, so if you want to get those up at all, you're better off with the Bandit.
