How to find a duel? Empty How to find a duel?

Post by Sentiel Mon Nov 26, 2012 9:37 am

    Hi. Wave
I would like to ask a very simple, yet also very stupid, question regarding "honor duels" and how to engage in them.

If I invade someone by any means I do so to kill the host, I don't care about "honor", or rules, I'm there with the intent to kill. Of course, I treat all invaders same way.
However this does not apply in Burg and Kiln, which I know are generally accepted PvP arenas. I also play "honorably" if my opponent bows to me first in all cases, except for obvious attemt to backstab me.

As such, if I want to engage in "honor" duels, I would like to refrain from using invasive methods. And here comes the question.

I know Red Soapstone leaves a bloodstain if I die, which is kinda pain and I don't know if Dragon Eye Stone does the same. Howerver whenever I visit Burg, or Kiln, there's quite a few Red Summon Signs (not as much as White or Gold, which is strange...), but Dragon Eye sign? Rarely. Why is that? Do people hate that Covenant, or does it have some issues like Gravelord?

    also tl:dr
Should I use Red Soapstone, or Dragon Eye Stone?

    PS:
I'm a diehard Sunbro, or Darkmoon (depending on character), so I have little to no experience with Path of Dragon Covenant.

Thanks for answers in dvance. Bow

Dragon Duels cause the world to only allow one other person, the dragon. While Red has no such restriction. As well Dragon gives a scale to the winner while Red gives humanity. Because of these two reasons most choose reds over dragons. Since people can still gank a red by summoning a white/gold first. As well if they get invaded before they can summon dragon duels are locked out until the invader is killed. Most people also use humanity often as opposed to dragon scales which few desire.

In short Dragon Duels will ensure there are no other players in the world, but Red duels will give you a lot more activity.

Dragon Duels sound very good to me. If I use it, I don't have to deal with gankers, so in the event I'm waiting to get summoned for prolonged time, it's probably thanks to gankers not being able to summon me. That's cool.

I'm used to PvP as Darkmoon, which means I have to wait a lot, so I'm used to waiting.

Humanity or Dragon Scales as a reward for the winner seem a bit pointless to me anyway. People should summon for the fight, not the reward. Most PvP oriented players will have more Humanity than they can use. That is unless they're diehard Chaos Servants. happy

Thank you very much for your answer.

Another question pops up in my mind.
As a Darkmoon I invade lower SL players, which is cool for me, since my main is slightly overleveled (SL 127), will this pose a problem for Red Soapstone, or Dragon Eye Stone?

Well you are still in a decent level range, but it possibly can as more go to 100-150 because of the Arenas.

Post by Sentiel Mon Nov 26, 2012 10:23 am

Arena was the first place that I thought of when I was looking for a place to duel, but the waiting times are terrible. Sometimes I waited for longer than ten minutes for one duel and then another, similar waiting time.
That was in 1-50 and 51-100 level ranges. I haven't been in the Arena with my SL 127 yet, as I heard i could go against SL 200 there in this level range, which would probably end up in a massive spell spamming. Shrug

Also, from my experience, people tend to be extremely passive and outright cowardly in the arena. I'm mostly refering to backing away to a corner with Halberd, or something heavy like Zwei and simply waiting for the time to run out.
I seriously don't know what to do against this, as all my results ended either ignored in block, or rewarded by a backstab. Better yet, if I have to wait for ten minutes to get this... Look Skyward

I'd rather let Gaping chow on me, than deal with this again.

Sadly I don't have the DLC yet so I can't really help out much with the Arena.

Arena duels are not Honorable unless you want cheap tatics to get 1 win then turtle for the rest of the matches,

if you want "honor" duels just invade/RSD Moonpit/burg/township, or join fellow forum members on nights when we host duels.

Well with the absence of healing with items and being able to summon help I assumed Arena will be full of honorable players. Guess I'm naïve...

I tried Red Soapstone in Burg and Kiln but got ganked half of the time. It's the same as with Darkmoon invasions, but then I don't mind gank, however if hosts summons me for a fair duel and then someone jumps in with Smough's Hammer, Hornet Ring and one shots me (actual experience) then that's not fun...

I got absolutely no experience invading in DLC areas, not even as Darkmoon. I got invaded there several times, but never bothered to try it myself, as I thought everyone will be in the Arena.

Sorry for the stupid question, but where is "Moonpit"?

Moonpit is before the butterfly boss, right as you walk into the area with the stone giants near the pond/flower, nice open space its where most members here hold duels. and the randoms we see are always really cool wait their turn, duel other reds. i would try there. i speak from PS3.

yea the arena would be cool but the streaks kind of kills it. people just want to win, so instead of fighting for the full 3 mins an having fun if they get the first kill they will run away from you and turtle for 2 mins just to win the match and get their streak.

Ah this place. I remember bumping into some very nice guys there once, or twice. I never considered the place to be PvP suitable with the annoying Stone Golems around. Cool, I'll try it there. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Proper Bow

I had some of best fights in the Arena. On top of them is when I got 1v1 while cosplaying Solaire and I got paired with another Solaire cosplayer. Very fun match and that made me return to the Arena ever since, but I haven't got any luck like that and I just meet full armor turtles nowadays... Look Skyward

Since you don't gain, nor lose anything in the Arena I always thought it will be just for the fun of PvPing, but I guess that people really do care about some number on a board. Oh well...

Burg was decent for me this weekend, only a couple griefers. And this 1 red that BS me right before i landed the killing blow on the host. The red acted like he was waiting his turn until i had whittled the host HP to nothing, then BS me at the very end. PS3 sl200

Post by Sentiel Tue Nov 27, 2012 6:20 am

I went to the Moonpit yesterday for a few duels and it was really worth it. I got summoned via RSS many times and never faced a gank, not once. Joy
Although the fights were kinda boring, because I got summoned only by Dex and Pyro builds and I also lost majority of them. People there were on totally different skill level than what I'm used to from Burg, Kiln, Ariamis, or Forest.

Then, I sort of copied Rosie's Big Truck and went fighting gank in Forest, which was a lot of fun.

    Spoiler:

Only one person was clever enough to outright destroy me without a chance to even scratch his hide. He cleverly used Dragonslayer Spear and used the damage boost it gets from my Iron Flesh to kill me. Others either died, fled, or ganked bs me with a phantom. But 3/4 fights were in my favor. big grin

Then I went to Ariamis, I really can't say why...
I took out Silver Knight Sword and Spear. I've wanted to try the sword for some time and I'm getting utterly annihilated by spear users, so I want to use them and learn how to fight against them. Look Skyward

Totally opposite situation then in Moonpit.
Half of my invasions as a Darkmoon were ganked to the point of making me take out Zwei +15 and Hornet Ring. Riposte with this usually kills.
Second half, were "honorable" duelers, that bowed, we buffed our weapons and then...well, either TWoP bs attempts, which is cool with me, I got Zwei, or they :estus: .
Really, the nerve of some people... Shrug

I wouldn't worry about that, because I generally suck at PvP right now. I'm trying to master parrying so I lose a lot, because of me, spamming L2. big grin

I am on PS3 and got one SL 127 and one SL 124 on it's way.

Something to try to remember with parrying online is that you have to do the parry roughly a second before the attack actually comes to hit you. Like...when they pull their arm back all the way before they swing it forward, giving the weapon momentum. When their arm's all the way back then you parry, that might work. Maybe..I'm still learning it myself lol.

We could work on getting you up to speed whenever we have a match, I've got about 20+ weapons for you to try out lol.

Feel free to add me whenever you wanna do anything, PSN's in Sig. Btw, what time zone are you in? I'm in EST, as I'm typing this it's 5:42 am.

I can parry all great weapons starting with Claymore and up to Clubs, with the exception of Murakumo and some high Str weapons, like Smough's Hammer, Demon's Greataxe etc, because people usually don't use them and in the case of Str weapons, if they do, they go for OHKO BS. Well What is it

I have problems parrying faster weapons as well, from which I can parry only katanas and some straight swords. I'm trying hard to learn how to parry Gold Tracer atm, but I usually fail and have to roll away, or I'll bleedout. Shrug

Oh and spears...those things are my bane. If somebody wants to kill me, use a spear and you have 100% win. Can't get in my weapons reach I can't parry them unless I'm very close to the player, but then they usually roll away to keep distance. Look Skyward

GF was struggling with Phalanx the other day. She likes it, so I'm glad I bought it for her. I've had DS already, but sold it when DkS was released. Since she already finished DkS few times, she either wanted to PvP or play DS. I'd rather see her deal with Flamelurker, than with the kind of :dung: i have to deal with in DkS PvP.

Well, by the sound of it, you're already better at parrying than I am lol. Lucky for you, my main guy is a Dex type, so you'll get plenty of practice with those ones you have a harder time with.

I use 1 spear, but I have horrible depth perception XD I'll miss you most of the time, with the R1's anyway. That'll be a good experience for both of us. You'll notice this with other weapons of mine too lol, misjudging distance constantly.

You made the right choice there, the majority of the community is just >_>...ugh..

Again, though, what's your time zone? It's important that we learn this so we can set up matches properly. As I said before, I'm in EST.

She's getting beated to death by Flamelurker atm.

Which reminds me...it's a bit OT, but who cares, right?

I'm living in Czech Republic in EU and I'm getting a feeling that someone in From likes my country.

In Demon's Souls you meet a NPC named Ostrava. Ostrava is a name of a city in my country, a city I just happned to live in for the last year, or so.

In Dark Souls, you get to meet a NPC named Havel. Havel (full name Václav Havel) is ex-president of Czech Republic.

    Coincidence?
