I just finished listening to Minus the bear.
I'm currently listening to some weird heavy metal remix of Cirno's perfect math class.
I then plan on listening to something even more out of my way on Youtube, I just have to find it first.

At the moment I've been listening to Smashing Pumpkins, Johnny Cash, Wye Oak, and the Silent Hill 2 OST
The Silent Hill 2 stuff is pure brilliance in my opinion, melancholic rockish stuff = sooo good!

I've got Turnabout Jazz playing while reading Gwyn's sheet music and talking to the lady.

So that Avantasia band I said I was gonna check out more from....
Apparently they did a three album project called The Scarecrow Saga. You can bet I'm all over it

So I've listened to the Scarecrow Saga albums by Avantasia pretty extensively and will definitely have to recommend them for just about anyone. Overall if you're looking for comparisons a lot of the guitar and vocal work is similar to Iron Maiden but with perhaps a faster pace on many songs. The lead singer of Avantasia while still similar to Bruce Dic.kinson is maybe more reminiscent of Klaus Meine from Scorpions. That's the general trend though. While Maiden and Scorpions always sound like themselves there's some deviations that make these albums interesting.
The first song (Twisted Mind) on The Scarecrow, the first album, starts off quite heavy and includes some subtle background vocals. The next song (The Scarecrow) has some folk music heritage incorporated and is pretty awesome.
Other notable trends are guest vocalists all over the place (the first song actually starts off with a guest appearance I think). Guest vocalists take the part of characters in the story which is pretty cool.
There are some vocal elements that cross genres and can broach Opera and Rock Opera style in addition to the Power Metal I mentioned above.
Musically there's some good variations but a few songs remind me of Danny Elfman's work for Tim Burton (Nightmare Before Christman, Corpse Bride, etc.). The most obvious example is Death is Just a Feeling on the album Angel of Babylon.
The only negative I see is that the story does not seem to be an accurate biography of me or even a snapshot of my many exploits

I just realized Reel Big Fish released a new album like a month ago. Candy-Coated Fury is just that cynical upbeat thing I wanted to hear this time of year!
