The only point it ever had, politeness. Bow at your own risk has always been true, its just that fewer people are polite now.

this was in the burg as well which i now consider more of a better place to get a honorable match than the kiln it is so annoying when you are looking for a proper duel

I bow or return a bow if I'm far enough away to avoid an attack and if they don't have a catalyst out.
Otherwise, I bow after the fight.

I hate when people bow after a fight full of cheap tricks. It's even more insulting than "facepalm" or "well, what is it".

what someone considers cheap tricks may very well be viable to another.
hell, some people think spells of any kind are cheap, or that having any poise at all is cheap or that using roll r1 attacks are cheap... everything's cheap.
all i expect out of a bow is that they've dueled more than once, they wont try THAT hard to chainstab me and they probably won't heal. probably.
expecting them to follow your own variation of the "honor code" after they bow is futile and pointless.

I'm in the burg most nights I have little problems with people bsing me while I bow...you must have just met a jerk or 2....stick to the burg its usually A okay for me!!

I usually bow first, but if they do and I wasn't sure of their intentions I Praise the Sun back, which is quicker and usually gets the point across.

I guess the point is this (for me). I prefer to start out a duel with respect. I bow (as safely as I can). If they don't, that's ok. If they attack, that's ok too. It doesn't change how I feel; how I want to start the fight (although, I may bow from a distance).

I've bowed and had players attack me whilst bowing for the majority of my
health, I guess many weren't very good because I still beat them but I bowed
to them after, It shows them you don't need to fall to their level and that
things like that really don't bother you.
It's the same as when players heal I just let them and carry on and if they beat
me well what does it matter, and if I beat them then it's all the more satisfying &
I bow to them.
The point of bowing is it has the power to effect a community, if most people
you encountered showed you no respect after a while you would likely also stop
showing respect unless it was shown to you first. The opposite is also true and by
you showing respect regardless of other peoples actions over time they are more
likely to follow suit.

I'd say rolling R1's can be pretty jerkish, but it depends on the weapon. Like if I'm fighting a person using some sort of large club type weapon, and it is the only attack they do, I'll probably just roll BS them and be done with it.
I'd say keep bowing, but just make sure you have some distance when doing it. It's a nice sign of respect among plalyers and always a good sight to see for those of us who are polite to each other. But if someone disrespects you, feel free to throw bowing out the window and Buff from your spawn, equip a hornet's ring and just kill kill kill them.

i usually try to bow but yes i keep my distance. the past few people i ran into have been taking advantage of the bowing by pelting Lloyd's talisman and dung pies at me. that said im happy to bow because it seems to pay off anyway 
was in the forest. guy invades. i keep my distance and wait for the bow. he bows and i return it. while im bowing i get a talisman and a poison knife thrown at me and he runs in trying to land a hit before i get up. i roll away and start fighting. he panics and runs away waiting for another phantom. i summon one. the white phantom and another invader join at the same time. they wait at the top of the hill while the idiot phantom decides he going to go get killed trying to kill one of the hunter npcs.
of course with my phantom dead the two rush down at me. the havel gets there first and thankfully his vit is crap. a couple spear stabs and some wailing with the balder later and hes down, the whole time the other guy is busy trying to BS me. after the other phantom panics and backs away. he doesnt watch where hes going and ends up walking off the ledge.
sorry for the rant but long story short, try to stay polite. if you can stay safe then do it but ive had several situations where the only thing keeping me from BS fishing a clone army build is because he decided to bow. politeness goes a long way~

Ah alright, just checking, because that would be a reason a person would hit you while bowing. Well, simply they might have assumed you had a phantom, or just decided to go for the kill.
