Just wanted to make a small pointer to all of you that are struggling with managing your weight in comparison with your benefits. The game features 3 movement speeds: "Fast", "Mid" and "Fat". I want to explain to you my point of view as to what the weakness and strengths of each class are (Note: I'm not trying to go into detail here):
Fast: Fast movement speeds are used by characters who have 25% Equip Burden or less. They have great recovery and are highly mobile, but cannot wield powerful weapons (for breaking poise). In addition, it is VERY easy to go around with a lack of poise, especially when the more important breakpoints is poise 31.
One of the benefits of the Fast class is that with the Thorn armor piece, they can be VERY difficult to backstab successfully. Also, due to already high movement speeds, the Fast class DOES NOT need the DWGR unless the player isn't particularly skilled with dodges.
On the other hand, they are weak and flinch to nearly anything, making trading blows difficult and having difficulty finishing long animations. Due to this, it is highly recommended that fast class use Wolf Wing as a staple ring to offset their weakness, although it is fairly safe to go around without using them. For this reason, fast classes have 2 "available" ring slots.
Caster classes can be commonly associated with Fast Classes
Mid: Mid or Medium class is the most common type of class; they have Equip Burden over 25, but less than 51. They posses decent poise and might even go past other breakpoints to have even more stun protection. Some can wield larger weapons in exchange for weaker poise. Others, might do the opposite. In the end, it depends on preference.
Due to having a balanced playstyle, the Medium class is rather versatile in fighting styles, but suffer from an insufficient roll that makes backstabbing and punishing easier. The only solution is the DWGR, effectively meaning that medium classes are restricted with 1 less "free" ring slot as opposed to other weight classes.
Medium classes are commonly hybrid fighters or melee focused players wearing "light" armor.
Fat: Also known as heavy class; they have Equip Burden over 50%. They share all the benefits of having both large weapons and large armor, easily grasping the poise breakpoints. I personally would call them Weapons Masters for being able to use nearly any weapon in combination with any armor.
Despite their large arsenal, the heavy class suffer from backstabs and horrible rolls. they are easy prey for critical blows and so do indeed require careful armor selection before fighting. Since they don't have any weakness except for lack of mobility (Which can't be fixed), the heavy class has 2 free ring slots.
Heavy Classes are usually tanks, and are commonly seen in heavy armor sets. They boast many deadly blows.
So to summarize:
Fast Class
- Highly mobile
- Resistant to backstabs
- Possible Low damage outputs
- Low poise and defenses
- 2 ring slots
- Easy to solve problems
Medium Class
- Mobile
- Resistant to backstabs
- Decent damage outputs
- Decent Poise and defenses
- 1 Ring slot
- Suffers from some ring problems
Heavy Class
- Very slow
- Vulnerable to backstabs
- High damage outputs / Powerful weapons
- High poise and defenses
- 2 Ring slots
- Suffers from mobility problems, but other problems are easy to solve.
