Question on weapon weight. Empty Question on weapon weight.

Post by Karn Mon Apr 30, 2012 10:11 pm

It would make sense if weight of the weapon helped break guards when two handed, or even helped breaking poise, but does it?

Say the Washing Poles 8 pounds over the Iaitos 5, and the BSS 3. Would the Washing Pole break guards and poise faster?

    76 poise (51 for 1-handed resists):
    All Ultra Greatswords 2h R1s
    All Great Axes 2h R1s
    All Great Blunt 2h R1s

    53 poise (36 for 1-handed resists):
All Great Asian Swords 2h R1s
    All Great Swords 2h R1s
    All 1-handed Blunts 2h R1s
    All 1-handed Axes 2h R1s

    31 poise (21 for 1-handed resists):
All Asian Sword 2h R1s (and R2 in the case of Shotel)
    All 1-handed Sword 2h R1s
All Katana 2h R1s (including Washing Pole)
    All Great Scythe 2h R1/R2s
    All Whip 2h R1s
    All Large Spear (Partisan/Pike) 2h R1s
All Small Spear (Silver Spear/Winged Spear) 2h R1s
All Halberd/Pole 2h R1s (figured this would have been 53, but it wasn't).

8 poise (6 poise for 1-hand resists, or Fist Weapons):
    All Rapier 2h R1s
    All Dagger 2h R1s
All Fist Weapons R1s (although this is actually 6 since you can't 2-hand a Fist Weapon)

Simple answer: no. Weight of the weapon doesn't affect poise breaking point.

It does not, though I feel that using weight as a counter measure would be a more effective way to gauge loss of poise rather than weapon category.

No, I don't think it should be based on weapon weight. I think it was a much better idea to associate poise-breaking with weapon class. This makes balancing the game a whole lot simpler, and more fair, too. Look at it this way: the Washing pole already has a huge range advantage over the other kats, same speed, roughly the same damage; you want to give it more poise breaking on top of all that?

It would just add another thing From would need to factor in when balancing weapons. It would become a nightmarish task, and the game would probably be less well balanced overall because of the increased complications.

I'm with Blaine on this one. Balancing would be horrific. Then again, if kicking was nerfed and bashing was buffed, it could be a viable tactic. Still, that'd only apply for great shields, and would make the flipping tanks all the more prevalent.

I've searched the wiki for this information, but haven't been able to find it.

All that I could come across, that's why I was wondering if weapon weight effected anything other than equip load.

Personally, I would have given each weapon it's own poise break value. That way you don't get issues like that, or have one weapon in a group OP and the rest very pathetic.

^If the poise break value was arbitrary, not based on a factor like weight, then yes I agree it could enhance balancing. Would just make selecting the amount of poise you want more complicated!

regarding guard break against shields... strike damage does the best, followed by regular thrust and slash (not sure about the order of the last two) so maces and great clubs are good for busting open turtles specially when two handed.
